  1. I agree. Hebron is definitely on another level musically. They are dirty visually - nothing that can't be fixed quickly. I really hope they can clean it up by next weekend. I was happy to see John Horn advance. They truly surprised me.
  2. I think it is more difficult to make finals at SA than it is at Nationals this year.
  3. Finals Schedule 7:45 p.m. - Class Champion Exhibition: Adair County H.S., KY 8:00 p.m. - Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN 8:15 p.m. - Marian Catholic H.S., IL 8:30 p.m. - Union H.S., OK 8:45 p.m. - Round Rock H.S., TX 9:00 p.m. - Blue Springs H.S., MO 9:15 p.m. - Castle H.S., IN 9:30 p.m. - The Woodlands H.S., TX 9:45 p.m. - Carmel H.S., IN 10:00 p.m. - Broken Arrow H.S., OK 10:15 p.m. - Flower Mound H.S., TX 10:30 p.m. - Marcus H.S., TX 10:45 p.m. - Avon H.S., IN Three Texas Bands in Top 6!!!
  4. Does anyone know the schedule for the HEB Marching Contest for this coming Saturday?
  5. I think Mansfield's show this year is great. Visually the band is doing really well. Musically, the band was still lacking at UIL. I think Legacy, Bell, Martin and Richland are stronger musically (and have a better tone) this year - based on UIL performances. Yes, I realize at UIL that none of the top schools were performing their entire show. Good luck at San Antonio!
  6. I have enjoyed their shows in the past. Yes, the oboe soloist was always great to listen to. Maybe they will add more to the show and make it entertaining, like their shows have been in the past. More than likely it will be Marcus and Bell fighting for the title. Bell's show is so difficult this year. If they can pull it off in San Antonio, they should win.
  7. Ha ha. Yes, I kept thinking...Ok Amanda, ok Amanda (the band director), here it comes, but it never did...the excitement that is...
  8. I totally agree with you. Yes, Marcus can play very well and they are very clean visually, however, their show is very boring - IMO.
  9. I saw part of their show tonight on TV while they aired the Bell vs Trinity football game. It wasn't a good quality video, but the show looked typical LD Bell - fast drill and lots of movement. Can't wait to see it live on Saturday.
  10. of course...i like ur user name though.
  11. There we go MisterWood. Cedar Park and SFA in finals.
  12. Why would he post that then...obviously SFA and Bell are in the top 12.
  13. Nice that means Cedar Park was in the top 12 w/SFA and Bell.
  14. One other 5A school has. Westfield - '87, '88, '89.
  15. And imagine if Texas didn't have the 8 hour rule - like Indiana.
  16. You might tear up more with the new added ending. I still can't believe they are doing a 12 minute show. Well, part of that is going to be preshow to fit under the 11 min max rule at nationals. They sound a lot better - more dynamics, playing louder, and a lot more emotional.
  17. I think your ranking for all 10 judges is incorrect. You need to re-rank the prelims with only those 10 bands that made finals. So Coppell's 17 in prelims would be a 10 - having the highest number from all finalist from prelim scores. 1. Marcus (14) 2. Bell (31) 3. Coppell (45) 4. Bowie (52) 5. Hebron (53) 6. Duncanville (55) 7. The Woodlands (62) 8. Berkner (72) 9. Spring (78) 10. Westlake (88)
  18. Remember though that the first three are music judges and the last two are visual judges. So in Duncanville's case it is a 8 - 14 score for visual.
  19. Ok, Friday is packed with all the heavy players - LD Bell, SFA, Kennesaw Mt, Tarpon Springs, Marian Catholic, Avon, Broken Arrow, Carmel...WOW!
  20. I like Bell's show this year. I like the visual difficulty of it. The closure is still musically dirty and too bad that they can't do America the Beautiful for UIL due to time restrictions. It still amazes me to see them do 10+ minute shows, where bands like Avon and Carmel do 8 min shows.
  21. I totally agree with you. I don't see Haltom being a contender for the top 4 spots. And yes, it is iffy if they will even make finals at Area. Mansfield looked and sounded good at region. And with some of the crazy judging that goes on, you never know who will advance.
  22. Ah, so now he is on Marcus' side..LOL
  23. This might have been posted before but did Bill Watson - Ex Band Director of Richland - retire?
