Wow, getting into finals is even a feat, that's a deep set of bands.

I can't, have college stuff going on. I would have LOVED to though.

Timber Creek is a newer school that opened up in Keller recently, and their band is on the rise FAST. Went from 5th at Area A 4A last year, to beating Sherman pretty handily at the Golden Triangle contest who made 4A state finals last year. I think they could very well be a state qualifier along with Keller, Keller Central, ect. Just look at the improvement in 1 year:

I recall there being something wrong with Lake Travis in the prelims announcement, that they made finals and it wasn't announced, so my guess is instead of adding in LT and bumping out whoever was in 10th, they just let both perform. All speculation until I find that post I read though.

Let's chill guys. That is a VERY high score for a marching band to receive at ANY level, that's all they were stating, they never said Round Rock did not deserve it, rather the whole contests scores were probably unusually high. No bashing of bands going on here.

From Area A, the only definite I see is Keller High School. Keller Central will be up there, I know they did very well at two competitions recently, but UIL events tend to get pretty interesting sometimes without GE taken into effect, I say they have a 75% chance. The next band I see is Timber Creek High school, based on the results of the Golden Triangle Classic beating beating bands like Sherman, The Colony, Sachse, Argyle, ect. After this, it'll be fun.

Well by beating Sherman, that could definitely happen! The only bands I see giving you guys a problem are Keller and Keller Central!

As much as I love Canyon, Clovis cleaner. Canyon had a lackluster performance in prelims and REALLY turned the fire on for finals, and it shows! They were so excited they beat Amarillo High and Randall! You guys beat Plainview, that is a HUGE deal! I was kinda shocked at how clean you guys were, great job!

We compete against Clovis every year at ZIA in New Mexico, which is basically their state marching contest. Here are last years, our score then their score: 2011 Prelims: 71.4, 82.15 (10.75 Spread) They placed 2nd and we placed 6th. 2011 Finals: 69.45, 85.7 (16.25 Spread) They placed 3rd and we placed 6th. They are VERY good, but their shows are kinda boring honestly.

Lake Travis. Looking pretty solid.

The show is better than 07 - 10 and a little behind last year. Drumline is the best it has been in a very long time though, I'll say that. I expect them to be in the 2nd to 4th range Saturday.

FOR SURE, throw Canyon in for percussion, I went and watched them rehearse tonight and they are REALLY GOOD. Randall is finishing their show this week, so they might be a tad behind. (So I have heard). If Canyon has a good week, watch out. Trust me. Their show is getting good, and it's really hard.

SWEET. Another panhandler! I agree, I think some preconcieved opinions about the panhandle are really off and offensive. They work just as hard as any other band in the state. Can't wait to see you guys Saturday! I graduated from Canyon last year.

We experienced this last year at a contest in Oklahoma on September 24th 2011 (Pretty early). It seems like there are two approaches to learning a show early season. A) Get it all out there pretty quick and just clean it over the rest of the season. b ) Learn it and clean it as you go, slowly. We put the whole show out there, and were pretty dirty for a couple weeks and got 8th out of 11th against a bunch of bands that had about half of their shows done but a lot cleaner. The band that won was also in our area, they got 1st by about 7 points versus our 8th place finish. BUT, come Area finals in late October, we passed them up for 5th place versus their 10th place. Basically, I wouldn't put much faith into scores until about the second week of October.

Since most of you are not familiar with West Texas bands, I'll give you some hints as to predictions for High Plains on the predictions page: Amarillo High School - 2011, 2010 Champions. 4th in 2009. Canyon High School - 2011 Bronze Medalist, 2010 4th Place, 2009 7th Place. 4A Area A 5th Place 2011 Caprock High School - 2011 5th Place, 2010 7th Place, 2009 14th Place (A band that is getting better, fast) Plainview High School - 2011 4th Place, 2010 3rd Place. 2010 High Percussion, 2011 High Colorguard Randall High School - 2011, 2010, 2009 Second Place. 2009, 2011 High Percussion, 2010 High Colorguard. Director Change this year. Clovis High School from New Mexico. A New Mexico Powerhouse. 3rd best band in New Mexico 2011, 2nd best band in the state 2008 1st in 2010, 2009, 2007. After these, it's a toss up. Hope this helps! Judged like Texas UIL Area Marching Contest. No field Judges. High guard and High percussion honors. No GE.

Exactly! I think they are still good, but it just seems a little behind where they were last year and in 2010 at this time. Visually, I'm not a fan. It's not awful, but I feel like there are some staging and form clarity problems in the design, I feel like the guards staging at the end is not very effective, I get that they are a small guard compared to the band, but last year and the year before the staging was fine. Other times I'm just not sure what I'm looking at, I'm not 100% sure if this is a design or cleanliness problem. Musically, they're fine, but watching, I'm just not getting the vibe I would like to from them. I'm confident they'll get there though.

I know that the Texas Panhandle regions (1 and 16) the least talked about ones in the state. Anyone from here or familiar with any of the bands? I know that the last band to have made state finals besides Canadian (1A or 2A) in 2009 was Canyon in 2006, 2004, and 2002. Medaled twice. Plainview is probably the biggest 4A in the state with over 300 students, they also have made 74 straight division 1s in Marching.

Cedar Park doesn't look quite as strong to me this year, good, but a little weaker IMO.
