No, because that wouldn't have gotten the message across that placements do not matter.

I find that kind of offensive. My band has been in a 4 year slump of not making finals since state 2006, and this year we did. We didn't care that there were 3 bands above us, we cared that our hard work put us in a place we wanted to be. Our director was talking about a contest in 2001. We slipped into finals with the last slot. In finals, we gave the most electric and awesome performance we had EVER had. He came running down the stands because he was so excited. No, the students don't remember that we only placed 8th, they remember that unimmaginable feeling of having the most amazing performance they ever had. That is what marching band is about. So let's rephrase that, if you have "THAT" performance, then you win.

3A's gonna be a bloodbath. All the area competitions to 5 were SUPER DUPER close, it's hard to tell who will make finals next week.

With BOA nationals in about 2 weeks and state in less than 1, I thought it would be fun to share how you or your whole program did over the season. WTAC: Guard: 1st in Class 4A, and First Place Overall Drum Line: 2nd in class 4A, and around 5th or 6th Overall High Plains: 5th Overall In prelims, 3rd in Guard, 5th in percussion 4th Overall in Finals (Placed 7th Last Year) UIL: 10th consecutive 1 (Class 4A, Region 1) ZIA: (This Saturday) For the 2008 season, we got 2 new directors and barley missed a 2. Last year at area, we missed finals by 1 point . This year we made finals at a competition for the first time since 2006 3A State Finals in which we placed 6th. More importantly, I'm actually proud to be part of this show. I feel like we can be successful and do well, instead of expecting the worst. I get the feeling of WOAH, that was awesome after each performance. Tell me if you don't see improvement in these videos. Then: Now: Area A 4A, watch out next year. Canyon's coming to play.

Kennendale making 3A finals. -
I never really see much about panhandle bands on here, probably because there's not many from up here on this site, so here's the rundown of some of the main bands up here. 1A: Panhandle High School: Previously 2A, they are about 110 and are more than likely going to tear it up next year at 1A state, they have a strong new director and are pretty good. Canadian High School: They got 3rd at 1A state last year, pretty solid 1A band. 4A: Canyon High School (me): We used to be a pretty big competitor in 3A state from 2002 to 2006, placing 3rd twice and 6th once. We lost 2 directors in 2008 and are currently rebuilding to our previous glory, we should make a very strong showing at 4A Area A competition next year. Randall High School: Pretty strong force at Area competition every 4A state year, they are consistintley in finals and have made it to state level a few times. Frenship High School: Very strong and large band (230) that makes it to state about every year in 4A cept 2007. Plainview High School: I think they are about the largest 4A band in the state (325 plus), they are usually lower half of Area A finals every year. That's pretty much the run down of the stronger bands in the area, hope this informs you guys more of what's happening up here!

2nd in class 4A at West Texas Auxiliary championships and we beat our big time rivals. And considering the whole percussion section is 63% new, we are doing pretty awesome.

Favorite show ever

LD Bell 2000-From what I've seen, this show is RIDICULOUSLY clean. Plymouth Canton 2001-This show is odd in SO many ways, and I love it for that. Canyon 2004-(YES I'M BIASED BECAUSE I GO HERE NOW:), but in all reality, a heck of a show for 3A, should've won IMO. LD Bell 2006-The music in this show is my style: Dark and Powerful. LD Bell 2008-That final push is just AWESOME, that is definitely a signature LD Bell drill move. Broken Arrow 2009-You can't beat Rite of Spring. Marcus 2009-Deservingly winning the Music caption is an understatement. Overall I'd have to go with Bell 2008, just loved the show design overall, EXCELLENT music, and clean drill. -
