umm yeah, so can we just close this thread or something, because its just a bunch of rediculous off-topic name calling, or complaining about the judging system -

My Favorite Shows are: Reagan 2005- You Never Know WOW, I feel like I am sucked into this other world, and the first time I saw it i felt like 30min and yet i still didnt want it to end. The music is incredible, and I absolutly love the fade away ending. Just Incredible!!! L.D. Bell- Trilogy Parts 2 and 3 I never thought i would see the day a band could put fear in me, until I saw Bell at Arlington in 06, and it truly frightened me. Following this show with the emotional Transcendents abosolutly astounded me. I never saw it live, but just watching it on You Tube makes me get chills, and during Lux it brings so many thoughts of last year when we played it at UIL, which would be one of the last few times we were under Chico Portillo's direction. Favorite Show Marched/Performed: Carpe Noctem-Seize the Night. Absolutly amazing, it was fast, emotional, clean, we connected with the audience, and we rehearsed for our show this year at a much much higher level than any other band I have been apart of.

^ I agree in the end it is only a circular piece of medal, and another trophy to add to your band hall. What marching band is about is coming together as an ensemble to create something larger than yourselves. We perform to make an emotional connection to the audience so that for 7-11min they forget about the world outside and focus on the emotion trying to be created on the field. What we do is an art, it was not created to be judged, it was created to connect us as human beings. We simply created a judging system to help us become better at connecting but not to create fights among students over what one judge's opinion said. The one thing as a freshman that I learned occured at my first two contests. We had a car crash in our band and someone died in our band. The next day at my first contest the Georgetown Band (I love you guys!) did not make finals at TOC Carrolton, but chose to stay and support us in our time of struggle. The Round Rock Band Boosters made green ribbons for every band member at the Westlake Contest to wear on their uniforms in honor of our lost member. Hendrickson, our cross town rival, prepared dinner for us (for free) at our game the week after the wreck. Now to me that screams what is good about band. We can come together to be amazing, or we can sit here and cry and moan because our favorite (or own) band didnt place where we thought they should, the choice is yours. -

CP kids, believe me, no one is going to question the difficulty of your drill, it was very demanding and you pulled it off well. Most people are commenting on bands such as Coppell who had easy drill, so of course they were squeaky clean, and is it fair to rewared lower demand? (I say a little dirtier but higher demand should trump super clean easy easy drill) -

^ I agree with you that this is an amazing year musically for bell, but Marcus does sound like a concert band, which is what i believe a marching band should be. To each his own I guess. -
[Major Event] UIL State Contest

having witnessed State finals this year I will say that the judges were giving out very odd scores, but i will save that for another forum topic. I think Marcus was amazing in finals. Their visual program is pretty boring to me, lots of small easy steps, but WOW is all i can say about their music performance. They truly sounded like a professional wind symphony on the field without a doubt. Bell is another story, while I am a huge bell fan, they just did not trump Marcus' sound. Bell had a much better visual program imo, but their music lacked the defined sound that Marcus had. I had the pleasure of seeing Duncanville for the first time live last night, and they rocked the dome. They sounded great and looked good. To me it was no question that they represented some of the best that Texas has to offer (beside bell and marcus of course). GREAT SHOW!!! I absolutly love cedar park's show, because they dont have to be fancy, they just march and play, no props, no fancy synths, just music and they do it well. I think what hurt them this year is they had a little bit too demanding of a show, and were not able to perform as clean as the other groups, but they definantly deserved a top four spot. Amazing Work CP!! The real problem I saw last night was Coppell's placement, dont get me wrong they were good, but I really dont see why they were above DHS and CP. To me Coppell went past their best sounds on a regular basis and it really killed the mood for me. Their marching however was very very well executed and they deserved the good marching scores they got. Overall I had a great night, and I am sooo proud to be a band member in Texas!!! Good Job to all State Finalists!! -
^ would that be the first watch out post for 4A state? lol, but anyways, I seriously think that 4A is going to be intense next year and will be one of the toughest state contest 4A has ever seen. Poteet will be amazing as always, but with bands such as Hendrickson, Friendswood, Dripping Springs, Sherman, Aledo, Birdville, etc. doing amazing at BOA and other regional contests this year Poteet's title will be in Jeopardy and I cant wait to see the amazing bloodbath state will be. (P.S. I am rooting for Hendrickson or Dripping, Its time again for an Area D band to take the State title)

UIL worst system ever?
titancoaster replied to treblemaker's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
^yes but one judge can do the same in a BOA competition When Connally went to BOA Arlington with Ourspace.com (the show we went to Grand Nats with) when we performed in prelims ALL of our rankings in every caption would have earned us a finals spot by a good margin except individual marching which lowered our score to 14th place. So even in the BOA competition one judge can make a huge difference -
wow, this is a year with very little texas representation. well good luck Colleyville, Hidalgo and LD Bell (take home the eagle!)
-
^*cough* different scoring systems, different competitors *cough* I hate to say it, but I agree that Reagan wil not be in Finals this time around. Their show is visually and musically dirtier than in the past (see Area D results) and after seeing their show, this is the first year where I am not amazed at their show, it does not have anything special in the GE department, and at BOA SA it is too tough to make it into finals without an amzing GE package. (P.S. I am not a Reagan hater, in fact I have always been a huge Reagan fan, ever since I saw them in 2000 at BOA SA) I really hope that Colleyville Heritage can break into the top 10. They have a really cool show concept and it is carried out well. At BOA Arlington they were just visually a little too dirty to break in the top ten, but hopefully this weekend it is clean enough for them to do amazing things. Akins will be in finals. As long as they have a descent show they will do great, they play pretty well, visually they are very clean, and their GE package is very well put together this year. Go Akins! (P.S. I really wish Connally would have gone to this contest, I would love to see how we would have done)

Area D Marching Contest
titancoaster replied to !{dRuMlInE}!'s topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
wow, get over yourself. YOU ADVANCED TO STATE, who cares if you were 5th or 6th or 3rd or whatever. You have a chance to go to state and own the dome and change what has happened to you. I cannot believe that you have the nerve to get on here and say that because of one judge you got 5th, big deal. Because of one judge we got 7th, we arent going to state, we have no more chances, but you dont here any Connally kids getting on here and saying lets go get that guy. -
Area D Marching Contest
titancoaster replied to !{dRuMlInE}!'s topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I am honestly in a state of shock at this point due to many factors: 1) I still cannot believe that we actually competed with powerhouse bands such as Bowie, Churchill, Akins, Cedar Park, Reagan, etc and came out as well as we did. 2) Obviously I am stunned by the typical odd judging results from a UIL Competition 3) I cannot believe how many individuals have contacted our band either through this board or in person and have said we should have made State. We the Connally Band are pretty upset about getting seventh and dropping out of state contention. We do however feel extremly proud of the amazing show we put on the field last night and how many people we connected to emotionally. It is apparant that we have made our name known to all the 5As in area D and in two years we wont get stopped mulitiple times while leaving and asked who is Connally. Sometimes the judges will not agree on who was best, sometimes they have different opinons on what a marching band should be, but in the end all we care about is that we are Connally, and we did something very special this weekend and wont forget it for a long time to come. Thank you all for saying such kind things about our program we really apreciate it and it helps in this time of feeling down. Oh and thanks for the good luck wishes Danpod, believe me I had alot of members asking me who you were and why were you so supportive of us. We the Connally Band Family wish to extend a big good luck to all the advancing Area D 5As you will represent us very well at State. -
The Metronome...
titancoaster replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
^A few clicks can absolutly kill a band, if you have a show that at the perfect tempo is 7:30ish a few clicks can get a band disqualified in the uil system. I think Drum Majors using a met to get the perfect tempo before beginning is the only way to go. Example: Connally's show this year takes 7:40 sec, if I go full tempos on all the pieces, well at region on monday I went a little (about 5 clicks) too slow because I dont have time to change my met, and we were 8 seconds from being Disqualified, and believe me, we have a new system worked out for Area so I will get perfect tempos and we wont get in trouble for time and not have a chance for state. And dont think it was a lack of practice, I practiced with a Dr. Beat for hours and I had all of our show's tempos down, no question, but once the crowd and the judges were before me time felt different and I never realized that I was wrong until I saw the clock at the end and realized how lucky I was. Moral: Drum Majors Should Use a met to get the tempo at the beginning of movements. -

I have seen the schedule and that is the correct order, umm I know that Bowie is 5:45, Connally is 2:30, and the first preformance is at 8:30, that is all i remember from the schedule (UIL emailed it to the directors) -

yup Area D will be completly random, (please let us have a repeat of last years prelims time slot, 2nd to last was awesome!) -
lol, our director posted both the spreadsheets on our whiteboard, so I have already seen them. I know 7-11th place in prelims were very tight, and we Connally were only a little over a point more than collyville (i believe), and we were 7th and they were 11th. Finals however, only one point seperated us, Coppell, and Mansfield. (thats all I really remember, sry was just trying to see how we fit in the picture)
