  1. You really think they wouldn't allow a Plano East to join if they miss out, or another area school? They have before, my last year at Poteet they allowed for 2 more schools to join late, because they missed state. Not saying that they will allow them, but it is something they look at when the field is small at that contest. But it's a few weeks off, so we will have to see what happens, either way, its not exactly a stacked lineup this year.
  2. No, some more 5A's will go if they miss out on state, and a few 4A's and maybe a few 3A's will join as well
  3. Mesquite Marching Festival 2010, Malakoff a 2A school finished in the top half of the contest infront of some 5A, and 4A schools
  4. Not to mention some areas may be sending more to state this year, and others less.
  5. I would like to make my prediction but the thing doesn't save it, so I have like 10 submissions and none have been accepted
  6. Son you gotta wait till area before you can get an idea of who is who. There are so many schools that havent finished their shows and I only know one dark horse so far, take your foot off the gas for 2-3 weeks and then hammer down on this. By then everyone will have an idea, and not just putting schools in based off previous years. Everything can change from one step to the next.
  7. I agree, I hate props. Let the music, and guard paint the picture or tell the story, get rid of the big props that do nothing, are just there to destract. Sorry but I believe props have no place in marching band, Let me say again, LET THE MUSIC AND GUARD TELL THE STORY OR PAINT THE PICTURE, not some over size star, or some over sized flag. The electronics, I don't mind a synthasizor(or however it's spelled) but recorded voices or bomb sounds, things of that nature have no place. Some of the best shows I have ever seen didn't use any props, Reagan 03, Duncanville every year, Bell 2000, Forney 09, Poteet 97,01 Richland 03, Roma 03, North Mesquite 10. At the other end, some of the bad shows had mega props and did nothing to help. Marching half a field because of huge props is stupid. If a band likes visuals than do visuals without the props, I have no problem with Crown Style visuals or what Reagan did in 03, Laying on the field is cool if it fits, but running behind a prop and playing peek-a-boo does nothing for me. I hate park and bark spots in shows, and some of these schools all they do is stop and blow your ears off, then march while drums are playing. I like BOA, but the props have got to go, or some regulation needs to come into play aside from the current one. So for the record, I HATE PROPS, but I enjoy BOA shows, mainly the ones without the props
  8. I am awesome
  9. Thats true, with economy being so bad, it is cost effective to go close. Thats why the schools from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and The BIG Easy don't go to PESH marching invitational anymore.
  10. I agree it will be close, but This line-up seems weaker than previous years. I guess because Marcus, Berkner, Duncanville, and Allen, just seem to not go anymore.(Yes I know Marcus was there last year)
  11. This year, after watching all but Naaman, I wouldn't be shocked if all of GISD made it to area, the Garland schools made me put my foot in my mouth, and told me to like it. It will be a great thing to see at area, plus that may give the area the bands needed to advance 4 or more to state.(If Dallas would actually come to area and not stop after Region)
  12. When we saw Duncanville turn front to play I needed a rag. Those were the best UNI's I have seen in a very long time, and I liked Coppells UNI's as well. Did anyone get to see Rowlett and what happened at the start of the show? They played Circus of The Animals, and were running some big plastic birds off the field at the start, and a real flock of birds flew right above the band. If anyone saw Lake View you were treated to fantastic music, and a great show. The main Male Guard was AMAZING and the band played clean and clear for a smaller 5A band
  13. I have always believed Pville has been a fantastic program, but Connely, and Hendrickson are better known for the success when the spot light is on them. With that said, Pville deserved the 4th at BOA Arlington, and that is something that program just may have needed to jump them into a solid state year, and Boa season
  14. This was great, I was very pleased to have gone to the contest, there were some really cool things to see, that haven't happened in a long time. Ex: Garland High was a big band again, that was a nice thing to see from a fan since 1992 stand point. Allen is always a treat, and North Mesquite is a Dark Horse "No Pun Intended" who could sneak up in Area Finals. Coppell was excellent as always, but didn't understand the props, so someone please explain, and Duncanville has got some sexy Uniforms, but I don't think that they played, or marched the entire show. All in All, a great day with some really good bands. I wanted to go to BOA Arlington, but lets think, I live across the street from Mesquite and like 30 from Arlington, so gas+money+location=Mesquite. For those who didn't get Poteet, they are 75% Freshman, and still have 5 forms at the end to learn, as is the same with some other schools who either stood and played the ending, or just stopped early and left the audience wanting the finish.
  15. All of these are crazy, I like the one about SFA. Keep the responces coming, I like reading these because I don't get to go everywhere and see first hand what happen. 99 State. Coppell wins hands down, but the 4 way tie with 2 schools playing the same music was nuts, they had to break the tie between 4-7 then 6-7, because there were multiple ties after the first tie breaker. To be honest, I liked how they use to announce all the places in finals, not just top 3 in Texas.
  16. Friendswood has been, they went in 2004-2005 and finished like 5th
  17. Poteet Doesn't go to DMI anymore!!!!
  18. I agree, but thats what makes it fun for those who aren't in high school anymore. I love trying to pick apart a judges brain to see who they put into finals/state and why. Your right, it would be a heartbreaking contest, if only 3 go to state in an area that always deserves to send atleast 4
  19. Aww the one I remember very well, 2003 4A state. 5 way tie for 7th and both Dickenson, and Poteet were left out along with some other good bands, and BRENHAM got in by way of judges vote!!!! First time in a long time that Poteet had missed Finals, and I think for Dickenson as well. The following 4A year they started taking 10 to finals, but that year they didn't even though they had enough schools there to take 10, and even 11 to make all the schools that tied happy
  20. What is the strangest, or mind boggling results you have ever seen in any contest? For me I have a few, Duncanville dropping to 6th in finals at state, Klien coming from 5th or 6th to win Plano East a few years ago, Haltom beating Bell in the DMI in 99 I believe, Poteet 4th to 1st in 97 state and Coppell getting 3rd in that same year. I can't remember the year, but when both Mesquite High, and North Mesquite made state, that was nuts. I have more, but I they just arent hitting me yet, but if I think of them I will post them
  21. That makes it even worse. Come On Man!
  22. I will say from experience in both High School and Drum Corps, that seating does matter in that dome. I guess it is comfortable in the dome, when it's cold outside and wind may be making it colder, so it's nice to be warm in the cold months. I guess what really gets me aside from the echo, is the bad PA guy for the contest. Can he over pernounce the HISPANIC NAME SCHOOLS, and butcher the White Name Schools any worse, not to mention he says the wrong school name at times which is bad enough.
  23. But the money funneled to those programs is more than other schools
  24. I'm well aware of the schools allowed thing but here are all the schools that even make area around here. Coppell, Duncanville, The Richardson ISD 5A schools, Garland ISD schools(and only like 2 make it, Sachse, and Rowlett) Longview, Lufkin, Tyler ISD, Mesquite high, North Mesquite, and John Horn from Mesquite, and if any Dallas school decides to try! As for the scores, I was getting them from my friend off the area score sheet they posted in the band hall at Rowlett High that year, so that was all I had to go off of, and I find it hard to believe Duncanville was over taken by Coppel that year, but I have also seen some pretty crazy things happen at contest that I have been to over the years.
