  1. "Other BOA Champions such as Broken Arrow, Dobyns Bennett and Round Rock also did not impress anyone in the parade". Disagree: "Did not impress anyone" seems to be a relative term. used here - Round Rock IMPRESSED the TODAY Show ,especially Al Roker. - they were the only band that was followed through the whole song. (Sweet Caroline) -that's impressive. Looks like they did impressed who they needed to and received massive air time because of it! Not bad for a band on their first attempt at Grand Nats was a crowd and judge favorite . Good times had by all. Just saying.....
  2. Another result of BEING an adult is to realize when someone HAS been blatantly been disrespectful toward a group of kids that do not need to be disrespected. So sorry... don't agree with you - people who CARE do NOT kick someone when they are already down. Opinions are usually backed up with substance and comments - Others have given those types of opinions and that's ok. What is not ok - is the one liners that he has to throw out there knowing that band kids read this Not caring what you say or how you say it or who it may hurt .. Is NEVER ok. Remember that.
  3. Your negative "opinion/attitude" is neither wanted or necessary and not helpful in the least. . As you grow up, you will find that not having a "filter" is not something to be proud of. How you treat others will come back to you and let me tell you "Karma is a b**ch" Good luck to you in the future. On a happy note! Congratulations to all the other bands. So proud of Westlake! you guys deserved it, what a great show.
  4. This is to all the RRHS band students who read this forum: Yes, I am a parent of the RRHS Dragon Band and I have something to say to the students who read this forum: Do NOT let these people get into your head. I’m pretty sure NONE have been a contest judge therefore are just giving their “opinion” or “negative comments”. They clearly have not seen the incredible improvement that occurs with each practice nor have the seen the full show with ALL the props intended. Are they able to hear the amazing musical BALANCE that occurs during your performance and NOT just how loud you can play? Have they noticed that your marching lines and formations are near perfect? The show is about 10% of what should matter- the music and marching is what you are being judged on - You ARE an amazing Marching Band and you do it well! NO ONE can tell you your destiny, you get to decide and prove that. You know how far you have come from your first march. You know what you can do. You have done it before and you will do it again. This is your time to do what you have been working for. Make this your moment. Prove to the "naysayers" to not be so quick to judge. You HEARD what the judges at Region UIL said – That is what you listen to - keep that in your head. Work from that – Improve from that. You CAN and WILL do this. We BELIEVE in you and nothing anyone says will take away that belief and support. Believe in yourself and bring that to the field.
  5. Old proverb: it's not what you say..it's how you say it. My oldest son was part of the band during the Raven = so yes, I have a soft spot for this band. I know that those kids read these forums and trust me, they do not need to be told their show is a bad. Who does that knowing that? The adult thing would have been If your going to say something negative, try to at least say something positive. I'll agree that it seems to be taking it's time to get to peak and there has been some missteps along the way - but they have one of the best drum lines in Texas and the tenor split during Two zoos is incredible along with the baritone solo. Who wouldn't smile during that set?
  6. Don't hide behind "I'm allowed to have opinions" - what you said wasn't an opinion it was a rude comment. "your bad"
  7. Why in the world would you be "angry" - unless you are part of that band which I'm assume your not. "They" which I'll assume you mean the kids ARE doing the best they can with what they are given - props and electrical mishaps - not their fault. "Being yelled at" is a pretty strong accusation that again is rude and disrespectful. Period.
  8. Very rude and disrespectful.
  9. That said "elephant in the room" band......... don't count them out yet. It ain't over till it's over.
  10. Saw RR at last football game - looks like a reset and regrouping for this band: Same director, but New drill writer plus a New guard director plus a New big sound plus New and improved uniforms (yet to be unveiled) and a great percussion section - equals a great show. That first hit is reminiscent of the "Raven" and the ballad is soulful... and that is the just the first 2 sets. Can't believe these are just teenagers putting this kind of sound out. Looking forward to Austin BOA.
  11. Do not count OUT the Woodlands and Round Rock just yet, both have history of peaking at Nationals. Although, RR has never scored this low before heading off to Nationals, it may be hard to dig out that - but if they can clean up musically, they may have a chance to make finals. Woodlands will show up and IMO make finals without doubt.
  12. Couldn’t agree more. When Round Rock went to Grand Nats the first time and received 4th place– some negative comments that came out “IF “so and so band” was there – they would have beat them. SMH….All you can say is …. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW, NOW WILL YOU? All the “what if’s” were just “Charlie Brown” wha wha wha wha - doesn’t make a hill of beans if you band doesn’t go. . The chips fall where they fall and nothing should be taken away from a band that does well for whatever reason – it may be their best run ever. Many bands peak at Nationals - espcially Texas Bands. To a major degree,Judging is subjective – if they like you… they like you
  13. Does anyone know where the Final scores are or when they are to posted?
  14. Here is a question..... Has there ever been a Texas band going to Grand Nationals NOT make finals in San Antonio?
  15. Anything can happen.... Based on what happened at Conroe, there were a lot of parents after final announcements giving away their "finals" tickets... I'm inclined to wait before I purchase my finals tickets to SA!
  16. I agree, their show isn't finished and they will continue to improve, So I would say..... One contest doesn't not make or break a band... as always they will dust themselves off and persevere. I remember when Round Rock didn't make state with the Raven and then came back with a vengeance at San Antonio. Don't count them out just yet! Their leadership is solid and will have those kids and their show ready by SA and Grand Nats. A huge shout out to the battery - that drum line is insane - one of the best in the STATE and NOBODY comes close to their most awesome uniforms - one of the best in the NATION.
  17. 1. FloMo 2. CTJ 3. Avon 4. Hebron 5. Marcus 6. Woodland 7. Vandy 8 Round Rock 9. Regan 10. LD Bell 11. Leander 12. Cedar Park 13. Bowie 14. Hendrickson. From what I saw of FloMound - this is probably their year .... AGAIN. With CTJ - it's all about the "remember factor.".. BOA loves that and you definitely are sucked into their show and remember it! My hope is that Cedar Park and Bowie keep getting better and better. I'd love to see Bowie have a comeback year! Round Rock just keeps getting better and better so they may be a little higher if they give the best performance. I also suspect that RR and and Marcus to peak at Grand Nats. I haven't seen Regan so that is just a guess. This years has to the be the most competitive year thus far with very little room for error - the scores are so closed that with one error it will open the door for another band to slip in. Depending on what happens at BOA Conroe, this who predication may go out the window.
  18. Cedar Park 76.60 to 96.30 - + 19.7 Round Rock 76.40 to 88.60 - + 12.2 ...........if your looking at it evenly across the board at the bands that made the most improvement- Makes one believe that the late bloomer bands are able to keep improving peaking at the end - and those with the lead in the beginning tend to peak early and level out. Which is probably why Cedar Park did so well at Grand Nats.
  19. Totally agree, Doing a Dark Show this year seems to be working for them! They have one of the best batteries they have had in years and the battery feature with the band running fast past them is intense/ also a "strobe light effect" - Love it! With time, they will only improve. Can't wait to see what they bring to Conroe.
  20. Depends what band you are asking that question......
  21. I feel bad for Hendrickson..... How in the world can you go in top billing and then fall off the map! Those kids went in thinking " we got a shot at this - we are going in at the top" Holy crap....how does that happen. Scores all over the place shows how much a subjective opinion can make or break a band - there is too much liberty in UIL judging. When there is one judge who is so off of all the other judges , one has to ask " what was he watching" - I wish someone would make it their plight to get this scoring changed so that it becomes more consistent or at the very least start throwing out the low and high score. With that being said, I think it's great for those bands who rarely have the chance to make finals in a BOA scoring - how great for them to have that feeling that all their hard work finally paid off. Everyone should get to have that moment. The other bands will survive and go onto BOA to once again be at the top where they are and should be.
  22. Here's a question. Does a band HAVE. to go to state competition ? Do all states have and follow the same UIL rules?
  23. Hopefully LD BELL and RR will vindicate and validate themselves at BOA
  24. And there you have it folks! Another inconsistent judging by the glorious D judges! The difference between semi final and finals... Unbelievable ...
  25. When 2 scores are in the 900's and 1 in the 500 - it make one wonder "what exactly were they listening to". That can make or break a band's ranking. IMO: If there were multiple judges and if they would throw out the low and high, I suspect the scores would be closer in numbers as no judge would want their scores thrown out. This is a trend with UIL scoring all over the place but that's what comes with subjective scoring....... I'll be curious to see the rest of scores as they unfold.
