  1. Indeed, 2000 was epic. Though it will always be the year that my heart got ripped out. It was my senior year at Duncanville, and we ended up only one ranking behind Bell for the state title (I think they had a 7 and we had an 8). Obviously I still appreciate how special it is to be the second best band in the state, but in some ways that wound will never heal.
  2. Inconsistencies in judging are just a part of marching competitions. One judges scores more are no more accurate or valid than another's. True, if Judges 1, 3 and 5 agreed with 2 and 4, Round Rock would be in finals. But then again, you could just as easily argue that 2 and 4 were the outliers and that Round Rock should have been lower than 16th. I didn't see the competition and have no opinion either way, but complaining about judging will never accomplish anything.
  3. Fun fact: With their third place finish yesterday, Duncanville has "medaled" in 8 of the last 9 and 11 of the last 15 state marching contests.
  4. 1. Former Studnet 2. Forums 3. Video/Youtube channel 4. Don't know 5. Don't know 6. Yeah!
  5. 3rd - Duncanville 2nd - LD Bell 1st - Marcus They pulled of the three-peat.
  6. I wouldn't think so, especially since UIL specifies it as "marching" scores and not "visual" scores. If Norman Rockwell paintings score better than clean drill we're all in trouble.
  7. A bit surprising since Duncanville had far superior marching scores to Coppell at Area. You just never know.
  8. Finalists (in performance order): Berkner Coppell Bowie Marcus Hebron LD Bell Westlake The Woodlands Spring Duncanville Sorry, don't have scores.
  9. It wouldn't shock me to see Duncanville return to BOA in the near future. With Dr. Shine's retirement, there is not a single director on the staff who was teaching at DHS when the "BOA Boycott" started in the mid-90s (though current director Jeff King was teaching beginners/junior high in the district at the time).
  10. I know what you mean by this statement (this is a huge leap forward in show design for D'ville), however considering Duncanville has made State Finals every year since 1988, I'm not sure "resurgence" is the right word.
  11. Gotta love the "serious discussion on the principles of marching band" started because of a movie quote that is meant to be taken fecitiously.
  12. Just to clarify, are you saying that there were area contests where finals were held but not every band was able to perform?
  13. You took the words right out of my mouth. If your goal is furthering the muscal education of your students, is it better to play Mahler, Respighi and Dvorak, or Mark Higganbotham? I know personally, I had never heard of Dmitri Shostakovich until we (Duncanville) did a Shostakovich show in 1998. He soon became my favorite composer, and I sought out and enjoyed dozens of other works of his simply because I first heard his music on the marching field.
  14. When Finals was only 7 bands they started at 7 and counted down. But as others have said, it made it a bit anticlimactic because as soon as #2 was announced you knew who #1 was.
  15. Yes, the posted schedule is the prelims. After prelims are over they announce the 10 finalists as well as the performance order. Those bands then perform that evening/night with results announced immediately afterwards.
  16. What's the point of finals if it's just the same 10 bands?
  17. Xenon posted it above, per Richard Floyd.
  18. Nice! I wonder what kind of video/audio quality we can expect on that webcast?
  19. B is easily on top. After that, probably, C, F and D.
  20. I'd think about it if it was Monday, but coming from Dallas, getting down and back for a Tuesday event is pretty much impossible.
  21. Schedule isn't on the website yet. TSMC Website
  22. I'll be up front and say that A) I'm far from the most knowledge judge of bands, and I'm a Duncanville alum and somewhat biased. I honestly thought Duncanville's music was better than their marching overall, so those scores surprise me a bit as well. But I must say the show was very well designed, and definitely more progressive that what you usually see from them. The music score may have been hurt by the weather. Many of the softer sections were barely audible over the monsoon/thunder they played through. Loved Coppell's show, though they seem to suffer from their usual syndrome of falling in love with playing loud the entire time. Nonetheless, great sound and very entertaining. I wasn't crazy about Rowlett's music (Carnival of the Animals) but they played it VERY WELL. Good drill also. Didn't see Berkner.
  23. Anyone know results? I left after Rowlett, Coppell and Duncanville (which all looked good enough to advance). Did they get all of the bands in? I sounded like a foregone conlcusion that finals would be cancelled.
  24. Here's the schedule. Didn't see anyone else post it: Area C Schedule
