  1. Sorry for the double post, but you have to remember also that this isn't UIL. At Grand Nats the finals judges are given a recap from prelims and semis. So they don't come in completely blind, they have an idea of where people are expected to finish, so therefore it's only up to the bands to show the judges that they really do deserve that 1st place finish.
  2. Try two decades. Yep, they never finished out of 2nd place at ANY band competition for 20 years.
  3. Rosters Vs. Eligibility Checks. Believe me, there are ways to find out.
  4. Let's hope those Ensemble scores don't translate so directly to the state competition, seeing as how there is no individual scores. And to save someone a post, this is because there are no field judges.
  5. Haha I remember you in Chicago last November. The super-tall mello player right? haha Yep yep i'll be..driving down the street..to the DFW Cavies camp. Should be a blast as usual. Speaking of which, any clue as to whether or not we'll get Randy again? haha
  6. Do you not draw for times? Correct me if i'm wrong. I love all the people on here who hype the other bands, it's fun. Good luck to everyone!
  7. Oh so much to say. First of all, this reminds me nothing more than when we were all 5 and when one kid hurt the other kid's feelings, he packed up his/her toys and ran home. 2nd of all, for those of you whining about "they should announce in this order so it doesn't hurt our feelings," is pathetic to say the least. 3rd of all, congratulations to all bands who performed and to those advancing to State, it's going to be a tough year. I was personally pulling for Colleyville Heritage but I have somewhat of a bias. Let's just say I think their guard is phenominal
  8. So I'm heading to Rosemont Illinois this November for the Audition Camp being held by none other than The CAVALIERS! I'm personally auditioning on trumpet and I hope to do well in my first round, I have my own personal expectations but I don't feel like sharing them Is anyone else heading up there in November? Oh P.s. I am a junior in High School, are there any older people re auditioning/auditioning for the first time? If so could you say something about your experience?
  9. Wow, you speak that as if you go here.. And by that I mean you are 100% correct. Especially considering the changes we made today..in particular..haha
  10. 86.90 - Richland H.S., TX Three weeks since the Arlington regional and we've only gone up 3 tenths..odd.. And Reagan has increased by 3 POINTS.. You know nothing.
  11. Oh yeah I was gonna comment on that, this Arlington regional was HUGE, it actually even shaped up to be harder than San Antonio will be. The only thing making San Antonio more competitive is the fact that all the top bands from this Arlington regional have seen what they're against, and now they're going to use it in their practices. This is going to be the highest scoring BOA year i've ever seen.
  12. Yeah he used to go to Richland, and no he is graduating in 07. You know, I keep hearing about how hard *insert band name here*'s drill is, and to be honest, you wont find any drill in a high school competition that is really that difficult, maybe its just challenging to that particular person. And a lot of the difficulty in the drill has to do with what you don't see. I obviously go to Richland and our opener "Aloft!" opens up with drill that requires you to separate what you're playing, with what you're marching. Sure now that i've been doing it for months now i've gotten it under my feet. But its sort of hard marching in four step sequences when your music alternates between a 4/4 and a 3/4 meter. And it would take a really smart person to notice that without knowing it before. And everyone keeps bagging on Bell and I personally thought their performance was fine, it just needs cleaning, they have the part that most groups never get throughout the entire season, and thats actually PERFORMING the show. And as for Reagan, I've been a huge reagan fan since I saw "Beyond Perimiters" which to this day is my favorite high school marching show. It just floors me each time I watch it. So unlike some of my classmates, I wasn't surprised when they threw down an amazing show. Although I think they could do for a more professional voice over surprise. That and everyone in my section was impressed with their trumpet soloist/person playing high above the ensemble. Well..you know a lot of us can do that if given the chance to have a part like that in the show. A lot of us trumpets here at Richland are itching for, and jump at every oportunity to show ourselves off. Which thank god our director Bill Watson has finally seen what he has in terms of trumpet players, and has given us the chance to push ourselves a bit. All in all though, I wish I would have gotten to see Churchill's show because everyone seems amazed by it, and i'm thankful to have seen Reagan's because I know they are never a dissapointment. And please, just because Bell all of a sudden is out in front by 10 points, doesn't mean anything to their band program, this year is just a really great year for High School Marching Band. ^My 2cents
