  1. Well Marcus is running the contest, so they don't actually compete, right? Plus they have a playoff game and all of the student volunteers from Marcus are leaving halfway through the contest. Found that out at the full retreat for BOA San Antonio
  2. Wow, there are going to be a lot of bands not attending state that deserve to from Area D. Hendrickson ad Lake Travis added to the seven elite 5A schools will undoubtedly make for the toughest contest yet. I'm graduating this year, so I'll be watching the fight from the stands.
  3. Cedar Ridge has only freshmen, sophomores and juniors this year. Next year they should definitely move up to 5A, especially considering all the Round Rock schools have similar sized feeding districts and the other four are 5A.
  4. Area D is really turning into the most competitive area in Texas for band. Eight of the BOA finalists were Area D bands, and all four of the Area D bands attending 4A state were finalists. Plus, there were other bands in Area D that didn't make the top four at the area contest and therefore didn't advance that would have done really well at state. All in all, next year is looking like another competitive year for Area D.
  5. I'm hoping for no change whatsoever in the Standstill 1- Silver division champion, but I think I'm a bit biased
  6. Yea Lake Travis! Wow, they did incredibly. All four Area D bands in finals? Heck yes
  7. 3rd - Centennial HS 2nd- Dripping Springs HS 1st - Cedar Park HS ...CP=lock
  8. Haha it was a joke, nobody actually thinks Marcus is in decline.
  9. I completely forgot to mention his time at Georgetown. And yes, he went to Vandegrift just after they opened. I bet he wanted a fresh percussion program to work his magic with, and I really don't expect him going anywhere soon. Then again, I didn't expect him to leave Cedar Park right after one of their most successful seasons either.
  10. Round Rock won the first I guess "unofficial" one in 1979
  11. We'll see in Area D next year. I think the reason most people considered Churchill to be in decline was because of their absence from the State Marching Contest. This wasn't really a sign of decline, Area D has been exploding with great bands who are just now spreading their wings. I'd expect another tough competition there next year, especially with SEVEN 5A Area D bands in BOA finals, and EIGHT including Cedar Park. All of the state qualifiers from Area D last year plus Churchill ended up in finals at BOA SA.
  12. Soon you'll be hearing "OMG MARCUS IS IN DECLINE! " Haha
  13. I'd say it'd be close competition between both of them. Wylie has been in the SS1-S division previously, I don't know how they'll fare with the SS1-R division but I can expect them to do great. Mansfield is of course the returning champion of that class. I saw Pflugerville's line at a football game and they were obviously not at their best. I also heard that they lost a lot of vets and are in a rebuilding year. I mainly included them because they have done well in the past, and has gone up against big names like Cedar Park and Round Rock in local contests. I think the only way to tell how it will turn out is to see what happens Saturday. I can assure you that there is a lot more competition for the top spots this season: it has been quite the season with many great marching bands and I can only expect the same to be true about drumlines. For example, there are at least drumlines in SS1-S that stand a really good chance at winning the division, whereas in the past the division has been dominated by 2 or 3 groups. That being said, their may be a line that will surprise us all. I haven't seen many of these lines this year, and frankly I don't know what a lot of them can put out there. I'll be watching the finals for 4A state tomorrow and see what happens percussion wise, but that will be my furthest insight on some of the 4A schools outside of Central Texas. Also, a potential competitor for next year will be Vandegrift. I really hope they decide to go to Lonetar next year: they placed just behind Cedar Park and Round Rock in percussion at VRMF. And their director is none other than the great Paul Pape: CP's director when they won standstill big time in 2009. Anyways, there's my $00.02
  14. Just from a quick glance: Mansfield Wylie Vista Ridge Pflugerville Leander I don't know a lot of those schools well though, some of those I just chose because I know them well and they have done well in the past. I'd be the most iffy about Pflugerville and Vista Ridge on that list. Possibly Leander too, considering they marching one tenor player if I remember correctly. Granted he's an amazing player and is always perfectly in time (that's based off the performance I saw at VRMF), I just don't know if the judges will give him credit.
  15. They changed the schedule and I didn't realize! I posted the new versions of SS1-S, SS1-R and M divisions and the new link to the schedule. The other two divisions had large changes, and I'm too lazy to change them
  16. That's what I was going to do, so thanks! are you gonna post it on here? And being in percussion I never really worry about the field judges: they have no idea what we're even playing He came and stood in front of me on Friday and all he was saying was "Yea! Yea!!! YEA!!!" into his recorder. It was great
  17. I'm gonna see if I can compile an analysis of the results on excel (rankings in each section). If I do, then I'll post it to google docs and post the link here.
  18. I wonder what the true intentions were in posting this topic...
  19. Well you can be executing your part perfectly, but one beat off from the person next to you.
  20. Well I think the emphasis is that UIL is geared toward execution while BOA is geared toward audience appeal.
  21. Darn The new rankings had me at #5!
  22. I'm thinking this high school band has a bit more of a resemblance of Round Rock's 2010 show than Air Academy
