  1. And this year McNeil is standing still more than usual, should I tell you how terrible that is for the whole season? Maybe I'll just comment on all the McNeil drumline youtube videos instead.
  2. Do they still have Scott Markham? He has a bad rep at Round Rock; He left about a month before the start of the 2009 season, which caused the poor colorguard section that year and the subsequent poor season.
  3. Happy to see ATX and its suburbs starting to get really involved in BOA. Of course, schools like Cedar Park and Bowie have big names already, but now we are seeing McNeil, Pflugerville, and even Cedar Ridge, which will be beginning it's second year, having only Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. I'm seeing 13 or 14 in that list from the ATX area. We should be expecting some new names in the Finals this year.
  4. Really? even all the rack players are considerably more talented than the pit members in other high schools? Can the rack parts only be played by the kids on rack because they are just SUCH difficult parts? And also, do the pit members run back in forth across the practice field and then keep their entire upper body flexed for the duration of the rehearsal? Do the pit members carry 20-30 pounds on their front during these rehearsals too? Sorry, I've been on rack, on marimba and on tenors, so I know the full range of difficulty, and although Marimba was pretty difficult, rack was incredibly easy. And compared to Tenors, the Marimba part was equally as difficult, but the physical toll was MUCH greater. Sorry, don't mean to sound like an ****, just trying to prove a point.
  5. Yes, it is where the untalented kids go, but it is also where many talented players excel. Marimba players are generally the more talented players while the untalented kids play rack. Or the battery-overflow players.
  6. Did that one last year at Round Rock HS. We got a one at state
  7. Tryouts haven't happened yet...
  8. Escape- Freebird Prayer of Light- Freebird Let Go- Freebird Flight- Freebird Transformations- Freebird
  9. Well what do you know, you caught me.
  10. Indianapolis is a city. Indiana is the state.
  11. One of the ladies that goes to my church was actually a color guard instructor for the Troopers in the 70s, so she's told me a lot of stories about the REALLY old school DCI. Like the years of "Camptown Races" and "Oh Suzanna". Haha, it's amazing who you meet when you volunteer for VBS
  12. Cedar Park drives.
  13. Ok, that's taking what I'm saying a little to literally. I mean the "public" as in the modern educated band fan.
  14. Society changes, and since Marching Band is supposed to be for the enjoyment of the public, it must also change to conform to the public's demand. And the topic of Left-wing and Right-wing marching band is as simple as BOA vs. UIL.
  15. Was 1982 Phantom's first Spartacus? And 1995 Cavies "The Planets?"
  16. Look at that Tambourine part, haha. And the 5:4 thing that the tom player has.
  17. At Round Rock, we've started doing a cycle of contests that alternates every year. This past year was a UIL year, and this next year is going to be a BOA year. I dunno, but other schools might do it the same way, so you might see more Texas schools at BOA next year. And honestly, I dunno why we do it that way, we had the weekend of BOA SA off, and we're in off season now. And since our Boosters are one of the best in the area, we'd have adequate funding to attend GN if we wanted to. I guess our directors are scared
  18. Yea, the had a really good run on Saturday. They've gotten the cymbal caption every single time they've attended, which is the last 5 years.
  19. We've played a piece by him every year since '08. '08 was Redline Tango, '09 was Sasparilla (not sure of this one), and '10 was Asphalt Cocktail. Oh, and I'm from Round Rock too...
  20. CT Johnson - They were new and I really wanted to pull for them. And what do you know, they did well too Westlake - HINDEMITH. haha, long story. Pflugerville - Beautiful music, and amazing percussion section. They really should have done better this season :\
  21. And I dunno if anyone else agrees with me on this, but I think Blue Stars had a really cool show this year. Especially compared to the factory one they did last year.
