And this year McNeil is standing still more than usual, should I tell you how terrible that is for the whole season? Maybe I'll just comment on all the McNeil drumline youtube videos instead. -
BOA 2011 Fall Schedule

Do they still have Scott Markham? He has a bad rep at Round Rock; He left about a month before the start of the 2009 season, which caused the poor colorguard section that year and the subsequent poor season. -
BOA 2011 Fall Schedule

Happy to see ATX and its suburbs starting to get really involved in BOA. Of course, schools like Cedar Park and Bowie have big names already, but now we are seeing McNeil, Pflugerville, and even Cedar Ridge, which will be beginning it's second year, having only Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. I'm seeing 13 or 14 in that list from the ATX area. We should be expecting some new names in the Finals this year. -
PIT. is it where the 'un-talented' kids go?
drummerjoe replied to Malletguy22's topic in Section Heaven
Really? even all the rack players are considerably more talented than the pit members in other high schools? Can the rack parts only be played by the kids on rack because they are just SUCH difficult parts? And also, do the pit members run back in forth across the practice field and then keep their entire upper body flexed for the duration of the rehearsal? Do the pit members carry 20-30 pounds on their front during these rehearsals too? Sorry, I've been on rack, on marimba and on tenors, so I know the full range of difficulty, and although Marimba was pretty difficult, rack was incredibly easy. And compared to Tenors, the Marimba part was equally as difficult, but the physical toll was MUCH greater. Sorry, don't mean to sound like an ****, just trying to prove a point. -
PIT. is it where the 'un-talented' kids go?
drummerjoe replied to Malletguy22's topic in Section Heaven
Yes, it is where the untalented kids go, but it is also where many talented players excel. Marimba players are generally the more talented players while the untalented kids play rack. Or the battery-overflow players. -

One of the ladies that goes to my church was actually a color guard instructor for the Troopers in the 70s, so she's told me a lot of stories about the REALLY old school DCI. Like the years of "Camptown Races" and "Oh Suzanna". Haha, it's amazing who you meet when you volunteer for VBS

Look at that Tambourine part, haha. And the 5:4 thing that the tom player has. -
At Round Rock, we've started doing a cycle of contests that alternates every year. This past year was a UIL year, and this next year is going to be a BOA year. I dunno, but other schools might do it the same way, so you might see more Texas schools at BOA next year. And honestly, I dunno why we do it that way, we had the weekend of BOA SA off, and we're in off season now. And since our Boosters are one of the best in the area, we'd have adequate funding to attend GN if we wanted to. I guess our directors are scared

Lone Star Classic Drumline Competition

Yea, the had a really good run on Saturday. They've gotten the cymbal caption every single time they've attended, which is the last 5 years. -
John Mackey

We've played a piece by him every year since '08. '08 was Redline Tango, '09 was Sasparilla (not sure of this one), and '10 was Asphalt Cocktail. Oh, and I'm from Round Rock too... -
And I dunno if anyone else agrees with me on this, but I think Blue Stars had a really cool show this year. Especially compared to the factory one they did last year.
