2011 Official BOA Arlington Schedule
clarineticorn replied to rtrezza's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Marcus is going to Conroe, though! I guess they prefer a later 'first competition'. Who knows! -
Thanks! Best of luck to you too I can't wait to see all the shows everyone else is doing. I think that's the best part of competitions, seeing what everyone else has been working on. My second-favorite part is retreat when I can tell other bands how awesome their shows are This year is gonna be GREAT!!

Show Shirts!
clarineticorn posted a topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
We just got ours today. They're black with red and white print on them, and the shorter version of our show name is on the front. The back has the FULL show name and subtitle, with a really cool piece of art done by the designer of a girl with long, swirly hair with flowers in it :3 They look so cool! I can't wait to show mine off tomorrow. What do yours look like? Does your school make show shirts? Are you required to wear them with your marching uniform? -
CTJ had a fantastic performance. The director emailed out the video to the student leaders and I just keep watching it over and over. Skill-wise, we're around the level we were at BOA Houston last year. We had more show on the field at the first game this year than ever before, and we did it without a met! We have a crazy-long line that goes across half the field (front-to-back) that was pretty darn straight...at the first performance!!! All of us leaders are so proud of everyone. We've been working so hard and our show is unbelievable right now. We weren't in full uniform for the first performance, though, so that might have affected things a little. But we will be tomorrow night! Good luck at your performance, Drummantx! I'm sure y'all will do great!

2011 Grand Nats
clarineticorn replied to november rain's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
We're a less creepy/dark version of Reagan, imo. And we're nicer. Lots nicer. Not that Reagan kids are mean, but CTJ kids are nicer. And I promise...you'll love our show this year. It's fantastic. -
Official: DCI San Antonio Returns To Alamodome

Anyone know if Roosevelt's going to get to work it again? The band parents were pretty ticked that Wagner took it last year -- it was a HUGE source of income for them. -
I'm doing the MFA Summer Symposium for marching this year and the music's gonna be hella hard if Crown really is doing Rachmaninoff. Sweet. Something to make my summer enjoyable.

2011 High School Schows
clarineticorn replied to Drummantx's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
EL TORO! And our ballad is supposed to be like a fantasy on La Cucaracha. No idea how they're gonna pull it off, and all we've heard besides that is that we're gonna have a mariachi-packed opener. But then, it's early, and they could totally scrap it for something else. We still haven't finalized the concept yet. Personally, I hope we go for something else. I don't want to march to that senior year -
2011 Grand Nats

Yes, CTJ is going. Yes, we're going by bus. Ugh. I hate bus rides. Too much sitting stillish for too long. -
Personally I'm a high-cam kind of girl. I like to see all the sets. Multi-cam is nice though, because you end up getting more of a feel for the band's personality and you connect better with them. Which do you prefer and why? Friendly debate, ladies. No slitting of throats over something as trivial as this.

PIT. is it where the 'un-talented' kids go?
clarineticorn replied to Malletguy22's topic in Section Heaven
Aw, thanks >.< Maldonado is AWESOME and smiley and just a good-natured sort of guy and his son is super-cute too!!! omg. I think there was one school I saw this year who had a moving marimba, can't remember though. I know one of the schools in my district had pit out in the middle of the field. O_o And listening to the front ensemble throughout practices and everything I honestly think their parts weren't exactly easy. Nobody had easy parts in our show, and even the guys with the 'easy' parts were running around between instruments. At one point, our trumpets were playing so loudly that the pit couldn't hear the battery so the brass got a dressing-down for messing with the tempo because it was having a domino effect with the pit. So I wouldn't say that pit's where the least-talented go...they've got to be able to listen and that's pretty hard sometimes, especially when you have 20 trumpets playing triple forte behind you. -
what song is stuck in your head right now?

The opening to Reagan 2005.... ARGH I'M SUCH A BAND NERD SOMETIMES (can't deny my love for all things musical though) -
PIT. is it where the 'un-talented' kids go?
clarineticorn replied to Malletguy22's topic in Section Heaven
I seriously disagree. Our pit is pretty awesome, they're outside slaving in the sun along with the rest of us (though they DO have a 'tent' that covers part of them) during band camp and practice. At contests, I've heard their warmups played by other pits at half tempo (and I may be biased but I think I liked ours better!). I dunno, I really love them. They work nearly as hard as the rest of us. Plus, they have to handle all that equipment. At my old school, drumline was where all the talent was. At CTJ, not so much. -
Region Auditions

I made region but not area. Not too bad though, I'm pretty happy with 4th chair 2nd band odd -
Show Masterlist
clarineticorn replied to eNVy's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
CT Johnson's shows since opening have all been arranged by Carol Chambers and can be found on her website. 2008: Bloom (the Beginning of Always) 2009: Dichotomy::Duality 2010: You Are (mvt. 1 Individual, mvt.2 Poised, mvt.3 Driven) I've only performed in the last, though, was at a different school in the same district for the two years before. No word yet on what the 2011 show will be, but the general consensus among the band is that it'll be pretty hard to top You Are. They said the same thing about Dichotomy::Duality though, and, well...it got topped. I can't wait to find out what it's going to be though.
