I love a good mellophone section although that could just be a personal preference. What are they playing for their ballad this year?

Sousaphones 2 at a time on props?! That's insane even for Mansfield.

Its amazing how far that program has come in the last 4 or 5 years. They aren't considered a top tier program just because of the fact that they have never advanced to UIL State, but they compete in the toughest Area in the entire state and probably one of the toughest in the country and they missed it by .05 points in 2008 when they had Heart of Darkness. This program continues to astound me more than any other. They start the season and you think oh well that's the end of their success and then in 2 weeks they take 1st or 2nd against some very good bands. I can't wait to see their show this year (what is it Dante's Journey or something along those lines?) and i want to know what these mysterious massive props are that iv'e heard make the crowd go crazy. Mansfield traditionally has one of the hardest if not the hardest show in the state visually, so i'm excited to see what kind of crazy stuff their drill writer has come up with this year.

Is that GE score out of 100 like i think it is? If it is then they should be getting more attention than they are right now.

Unfortunately Hebron hasn't had a great year so far 3rd at Birdville to Mansfield and Flower Mound and 4th at TOC to Haltom, Centennial, and Mansfield as well as 10th at BOA Arlington. I'm not saying they definitely won't make finals (i mean it's still Hebron) but they will have to push pretty hard to get a spot due to the level of competition this year.

I haven't been able to see Mansfield yet this year but iv'e heard alot of great things about them. Ill be at BOA SA, that being said do you think they'll be able to compete with the many great bands there and make finals?

I'm a big fan of the 4 Mansfield marching bands (Mansfield,Legacy,Timberview,Summit) and i was wondering what other people thought of them and how they stack up to some of the more well known bands. Considering i'm biased having grown up in Mansfield when it was just farmland and cows.

I was fortunate enough to see Bell's show at UIL Region tuesday and they sounded like the typical Bell but their marching fundamentals were not very consistent or defined which could prove to hurt them at SA.

Alot of people are talking about those top 3-4 spots, but what about 5-9? There's going to be some heavy competition for those spots.

I would say that both Mansfield and Legacy high schools have improved alot in the last few years. Especially Mansfield ever since they got the new directors the program has become very competitive and i would say that their guard could be compared to that of any of the middle to lower level DCI corps. (even though im no professional judge) Legacy has been having a great year although their show strikes me as a bit too simple even though their execution is good.

I have to say its nice to see Mansfield getting some recognition. They've improved exponentially since 2006 when they made finals at a BOA event for the first time and this year their show is one of the hardest I've seen any high school band put on the field.
