FYI, I was not the one to bring up football. In fact, I even mentioned that I thought we were on a band forum, not football, so no need to get so almighty.... I have been and still am one of the LT Cavalier Band's HUGEST fans, as you can tell from my previous posts. The LT Band did amazing this year and I was not trying to take away from that, so please make sure you know where the discussion started before you accuse me of taking away from the band's accomplishments.

4A State Results Discussion

Our band students at Lake Travis are taught pride, dignity, and professionalism.... It is instilled in them to be congratulatory towards their competitors and to not be boastful and ostentatious.. They are a class act..... -

Lake Travis definitely was not a stand still band at all. Very few moments in their show would fit this. Of course I am biased towards Lake Travis, but I believe their show was one of the most beautiful and the most aesthetically pleasing. -

Thank you very much. Being a very proud LTHS band mom, your kind words really mean a lot. Yes, seeing that this was our first trip ever in the 30 year history of our district, I believe we did very well. Just being able to be there yesterday was quite an honor among so many great competitors. Just because a band may have not been in the final ten, all are still winners. All 24 are in a very elite group....one of 24 best 4A bands in all of Texas. Pretty amazing once you put it all into perspective..... -
I thought this was a band forum, not a football one? Anyway, at least he brought LTHS two state championships and then Michael Brewer brought the next two. Only 4A school in Texas to ever win FOUR straight state championships. The drive for number 5 will begin on Thursday. With that said, LTHS's Cavalier Band has just as a good of a shot as the other 23 bands competing. Since this is our first trip ever to state, we are very happy to be participating, and wish everyone the very best of luck ---- even yours....

Scoring and Level of Difficulty>
Jo Ann replied to Zko2000's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I have seen LOTS of shows this season, and I can honestly say that the shows where the band is just standing still and playing are the real snoozers. I find myself looking at the clock wanting the show to be over since it is boring me to death. Those shows with a lot of movememt and playing at the same time, I feel should be scored with a difficulty level factor, yet they do need to do it cleanly and precisely. The shows with lots of fast movement are definitely more enjoyable, as far as I am concerned. -
Being a Lake Travis band parent, I know for a fact that our show "Silk Road" was written specifically for us and is copyrighted. I am not sure if part of it have been seen elsewhere or not, but I highly doubt it. Just my two cents worth. Best of luck tomorrow to all bands. It has been a long, hard road for all and may the best band win! Of course, I will be pulling for my LTHS Cavalier Marching Band! Go Cavs!

Both soloists were All State last year. The flute was Junior last year and the cello was a Freshman. The cellist was also All State last year on clarinet, but could only be in one. Being a devoted band parent, we are very proud of ALL of our band members. Our first trip to state ever in the district's 30 year history! Thanks!!

LBJ did not show up yesterday to Area D, and never heard why..... Very surprising I thought, especially if you have worked so hard for something and just don't show up..... -
I am not a band member, but a very proud band parent and thank you for you kind words. I too did not openly admit that we were going to be one of the four, just kept it to myself. Congratulations to y'all for a job well-done and also to Cedar Park and Vandegrfit! Area D is amazing!

Same here! I was there ALL day long yesterday and saw all of the shows in prelims and finals. I noticed considerable improvement with many of the bands who placed in the top ten from previous performances I had seen them in, i.e. festivals, etc. As far as the finals go, I had predicted that after Regions, seeing that I had seen all of the shows multiple times. The four finalists all performed extremely well and deserve their win. I believe Area D is well-represented and will make an outstanding showing on November 8. Go Lake Travis!

I have seen almost all of the shows which will be competing tomorrow in Area D with the exception of a very few in Regions 8 & 12. Whatever the outcome for all competitors, I wish everyone the very best of luck - even if I am a HUGE Lake Travis fan!!!

Area Competitions!
Jo Ann replied to Westandalone's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Area D will be sending 22 bands (Region 18 = 9, Region 26 = 8, Region 8 = 3, and Region 12 = 2) with only 4 of those advancing to state on November 8. I have to agree with your prediction mentioned above for the four advancing to state. I have seen the shows of all 4 and not that I am biased or anything, but I believe Lake Travis' show is by far the best. Lake Travis did beat Dripping Springs at the USSBA competition back in September but then then Drip beat Lake Travis at the Westlake Festival by only .3 of a point. Lake Travis came in fourth at the Vista Ridge Marching Festival behind 1st/Vandegrift, 2nd/Cedar Park, and 3rd/Westlake (5A). Lake Travis placed 1st at the USSBA, 5th at Westlake, and 4th at Vista Ridge so they have really been coming on strong this year. Whatever the outcome next weekend, I wish all bands the best of luck! -

Have seen both of them and neither is very exciting or memorable. Just my opinion.....
