I still gotta get the shaving and whipped cream out of my hair and clothes. Good luck to everyone who entered tho. Quote

I dont even know what kind of song this is. I just wrote it. O! Its some sort of slow Electronica song. There. Heres the link. Refulgent Stars 1:48 (Might want to use REAL speakers...hehe) what did u use to write this? Quote
Fortisimo Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 He used FL Studio- and more specifically, he used Plucked, The Sampler, Fruity delay (sounds like it's set on a 3 step delay); actaully, he might have used FPC instead of the sampler, but I don't think he did. Then there's what sounds like either a DX10 or a 3xosc with a background pad. Haha, I know FL Studio, that's for sure. Oh, and are we allowed to vote for ourselves? Right, one more thing; next time we do this you should probably have the entries be submitted in mp3 format because very, very nearly everyone is able to read that format (mac, linux, windows, you name it really) and the files wouldn't take up near as much space. That way too, people's downloads could go faster and they wouldn't take up near as much space on the ftp. I mean, if we were to do songs with say 8 minute time limits, they wold probably take up like 60-80 Mb. On the other hand, mp3s would be up to 8 Mb, which is even less than our little short entries now. Of course, it's your call though. Just thought I might make that suggestion. Quote
mnkyman Posted March 18, 2006 Author Posted March 18, 2006 thanks for the suggestion. yes, you can vote for yourself ( i would ) also...the FL studios..is it a whole music writing program, or something that turns music written on say...finale into having real good midi samples Quote
Fortisimo Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 It's the whole music writing thing. And I already nulled my vote because I didn't want to vote for myself, nor did I want to help the competition. Quote
thesnareguy Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 I nulled as well. I liked both of the songs. Quote
mnkyman Posted March 19, 2006 Author Posted March 19, 2006 i actually enjoyed all three peices. i liked the two techno-like peices cause..well i just like techno..and i liked ryans cause it was the closes to a traditional band peice Quote
BigRyRy2026 Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 lol alright musical dexterity! both the techo pieces are pretty cool, not gonna lie. Ive played around with FL studio before, pretty cool program there. I however am just a Finale nub, as you can all now tell lol least my graphics pwn! Quote

thesnareguy Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 FL Studio is a music production program. There are many plugins and stuff you can do on it. Im not sure but I think Fortissimo has something to make it look like a music notation program.(I might be wrong!!!) But the way I use it, its not very close to how Finale works. Eh, I think someone else can explain it better than me. You should try it out! Thats the only way you can find out... I think. FL Studio is used for making Rap/HipHop beats, Electronica/Trance/Techno(i hate that word) and alot of other genres. Quote
Fortisimo Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Lol, yeah, everyone always assumes trance or just generally low grade music. But yeah, it is quite a bit different from finale in that it doesn't use traditional staffs; instead, it has a grid that spans every octave from zero to ten with a piano laying sideways to show where the notes are. Therefore, the vertical spacing determines the pitches and the horizantal grid is divided to where each block is a 16th note. You then put in the notes (they look like rectangles in this case) into the grids where you want them. Because it is setup like this, there aren't any key signatures or anything to put in, and it makes writing a-tonal music or music that frequently changes keys very easy (well, as long as you know how to write such things properly).
