haswe Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 www.haswe.org The Houston Area Summer Wind Ensemble, or better known as HASWE, was born in the summer of 2004 at its home, Westfield High School in the north Houston 1960 area. Historically performing with over 70 students each year from the Spring, Klein and Cy-Fair School Districts, they conclude their summer with a celebratory concert held in the Westfield HS Performing Arts Center. We are extremely excited to be a part of THE EXSIGHTMENT OF SOUND!!! This has helped HASWE grow to encompass all of the Houston area. The camp is designed to give students in the Houston area an outlet to improve ensemble and performance skills and further their knowledge on their respective instruments as inexpensively as possible. The enrollment group is open to all incoming freshmen to recently graduated seniors. Also, new this year is the many distinguished private lesson teachers and band directors from the Houston area giving sectionals and instrument-specific master classes. Conducting the band this year is Westfield High School band director and HASWE Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Wow, that sounds really interesting.....thanks for posting on txbands! I think I might join--it just depends on vacation plans Quote
Gltokensp06 Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 JUST TO TELL YOU GUYS...HASWE IS BAD@$$. Its sooo cool, you meet so many other ppl. Its like region band without all the fuss and audition music. And its not like were bad. We could compete some of the 1st bands at A LOT of schools. There are links to recordings if you dont believe me. Even though it is predominantly Westfield students, in no means is it biased in any way. If you play better than someone else, you'll get a higher chair. PERIOD. Its soo much fun. Just incase you didn't feel like going to the site the here is the 2006 reperatiore... artishard Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 i wanna go, and i live near dallas : [ i <3 gavorkna fanfare! we almost played it last year, but our trumpets couldn't double tongue fast enough. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 haha gavorkna fanfare... my ex-youth wind symphony director claims that piece was his composing claim to fame... that jack stamp asked him if high school trumpet kids were able to double tongue well. he replied yes but a lot of them are only able to do it on a single sustained note. thus, the double tonguing trumpet parts of gavorkna fanfre.
