Fortisimo Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 That's fine; bands tend to get better and better over time, I think you'll find. So eventually perhaps they will be feasible. And maybe I'll decide to make one that's easier. I dunno, I can't tell you. The music I write reflects my taste in music and just what I think about different topics. I haven't ever constrained myself, because the real reason I write it is to please myself. I've never written a song for any other purpose than for having it to listen to myself (of course, this excludes the rare collaboration or humorous piece. BUt niether of those are ever orchestral so, w/e) Besides, tone down some of the percussion stuff and you could have some wicked concert music. And I'm glad you like it. So, do you have any idea what you're show will be next year? Quote

The band will be performing movements of his Symphony No. 10 and Fire of Eternal Glory next year in our 2006 Field Production. Look for continued coverage of the development, preparation, and performance of the the show throughout the summer and fall. If I remember correctly it will be called Fire of Eternal Glory. That is what my school will be playing. I on the other hand will be at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. Quote
Fortisimo Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Ah sweet; that's pretty awesome. That's a very well written piece by an amazing composer. I hope to see what they do with it. Quote
MartinHorn Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Quote Lol, sorry, we seem to have digressed just a little here. We STILL don't know yet. I figured we'd find out last monday, but to no avail. HOw about everyone else? Yeah I'm sure I've said this before, but our directors keep it well under wraps until they decide to reveal it. Quote
Fortisimo Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Well, last year word of what the show was leaked out as early as the percussion bash.. so yeah... but it's possible they themselves still aren't sure what they are doing, but from the comments I've managed to catch a hold of during leadership meetings etc., I think they have a solid base laid. They just won't tell us what it is. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Does anyone know what these bands are doing: Spring Westfield Duncanville Langham Creek Thanks! Quote
aaron067 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Last I heard, Duncanville will be performing "Belshazzar's Feast" by Sir William Walton. I'm not sure about the others, but I would assume Spring and Westfield are both already in the midst of the design process. Quote

bored2damax Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Hey um im from seguin and we find out what our show is on thursday after school. Our BD just kept saying that alot of people told him that it was a good idea and that it is more musical. I dont know what he meant but thats what he told us. Quote

Brian Merrill may have changed his mind by now (at least, I assume it's up to him since Tom Shine is no longer directing the marching band), but the person who mentioned it made it sound as if it was quite definite. christus_spohn Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 McNeil's is going to based on Risigni's overtures, and features William Tell Overture and Barber of Seville. It's gonna be tough but we just got the midi file of the completed music and it sounds amazing. Our drill is being written by the guy who writes the drill for the Madison Scouts. AWESOME!!! We started using him before he got that gig, so he still does stuff for us. Talk about go timing. Anyways, post your shows. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 There is already a thread started on this subject. Here is a link: 2006 Marching Shows Quote

Indeed, I hope as well that after a slight repose that Seguin can make some kind of comeback. Perhaps our good friend Rachmoninov will help us out with that. Bored2damax (or anyone from Seguin, for that matter), do you know who the arranger is by any chance? - mm Quote

I love the 3rd movement (and the drunken sailor part from the 2nd).
