The main reason is we need two more people to play vibes in the front ensemble. Also, 7 snares is pretty hard to clean. Especially when 3 of them are incoming freshmen. Really good freshmen, though. FunkyFlute07 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 4 snares 3 tenors 5 basses if we're lucky. and thats about it. dont know about sidelines..... Quote
andrewband07 Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 6 snares 3 tenors 5 basses and 1 alternate 4 cymbals Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Mine's down to this now. 6 snares (fishie got cut) 4 tenors (all vets) 5 basses 23 in the pit (I'm not kidding!) Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 5 snares (I think) 5 basses 2 tenors 12 front ensemble Strangely enough, we have around 40 percussionists...our percussion section is pretty cut throat, so if you can't hack it, you can easily get replaced. Quote

A couple of years ago I would've killed for enough percussionists to have a full cymbal line (we didn't, so the pit had to play cymbals at pep rallies and for stand tunes ). Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 My percusson director is afraid of OUCS-OverUsed Cymbal Syndrome. A few years ago, we had a show sick with it, and it wasn't that great, so we hardly ever use cymbals...ever. I don't mind though. We don't have any cocky cymbal people dropping a valuable brass instrument and it getting ruined Quote
I<3thebox Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 lol - someone posted our school's line earlier but now we have 7 cymbals - 3 freshman and none were bad enough to be cut so kept them all. We kinda have an unspoken rule in our band - all cymbals must be attractive double reed girls a couple of years ago there was a clarinet girl who got on, but she went back to clarinet the next year lol in fact we used to order special cymbal uniforms that were like half guard/half band uni's - they were spandex but looked like our (band) uni's mainly because our cymbal line does a lot of visuals and they're hard to do in band uniforms b/c they really restrict upper body movement... anywho so now weire 4 tenors, 5 basses, 6 snares, 7 cymbals and... (I believe) 4 marimbas, 4 vibes, 1 timpanist, 2 synth players (but they're like real instruments - celesta, harp, organ, string bass etc) and probably 5-10 auxillery percs... so that makes...? between 16 and 21 in the pit whats with the schools marching no tenors? thats wack lol although I do remember a school that marched TIMBALES once... or something like that we were all like what they heck are those!? Quote
G'townPIT Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 4 marimbas, 4 vibes, 1 xylo, 1 timpani, 1 synth, 4 rack persons Quote
EODrillDesigner98 Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Temescal Canyon High School will have around 15-ish that including battery and pit players Quote

TX Suh-nare Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Aw, dude! That sucks man! he'll be out for a couple months! Was he a senior? Oh, and my drumline lost a senior tenor due to a mixup with his credits, so we got 6-3-5. And 23 still. Quote
hawksnare08 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Actually, he was playing today while we were inside and he just has a boot on... not a real cast, so I son't know. But he definitely wasn't marching. He's just a sophmore and this is his first year on the line. He was in pit last year. That's stinks about ya'lls senior tenor, but 6-3-5 isn't that bad... 4-4-6 is. Can you say horrible balance??? I hope that it ends up being at least 5-4-6... Quote
snareyes07 Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 actually....im hoping our fifth snare will be marching with us...he is only going to be out for two weeks, which equals one week of nothing before school and an easy first week of school...and he has only missed three dots so far so i don't think it will take that long for him to get back into the swing of things...at least i hope not because four snares and four tenors is crazy unbalanced Quote
hawksnare08 Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 only 2 weeks? that's awesome! how come no one ever tells me these things?! oh well, i'm really excited because 4 and 4 really is crazy. yay! Quote
Danpod Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I'm only posting to break up the Hendrickson Snare thing we've got going here Quote
Lustra.exe Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 hey hendrickson snares! do yall know anything about this big ole' drumline thing we're doing on friday? are we going to have like a 15 man snare line, 8 tenors and 16 basses? or what... just let me know if you know anything. Quote
G'townPIT Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Quote 15 man snare line, 8 tenors and 16 basses lol can you say, Thick? Quote
