MartinHorn Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Can a drummer explain to me the difference between playing on a tilted drum as opposed to playing on a non tilted one. Quote
mbui Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 QUOTE (MartinHorn @ Jun 6 2006, 12:52 PM) Can a drummer explain to me the difference between playing on a tilted drum as opposed to playing on a non tilted one. It dates back to history where marching bands and drum corps used to tilt their snares. In addition, it makes more sense if the drum is tilted if you're using the traditional grip. Quote
Brian Ngo Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Its because of the cloth over the sholder carrires that put the drum at the tilt which was why the traditional grip exsists Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 With tilted drums, it makes traditional drumming more relaxed since you don't have to lower your left hand or raise your right hand up to your drum. Jim's idea is ultimate relaxation, which will help out the Cavies a lot considering the stuff he wrote for them. Ridiculous. Quote
Lustra.exe Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 i see they're going with innovative too... suprise? Quote
mbui Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 QUOTE (Lustra.exe @ Jun 8 2006, 11:30 PM) i see they're going with innovative too... suprise? The Cavaliers have been using Innovative Percussion products for years. Quote
Lustra.exe Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 oh ok. for some reason i thought they used something else... whoops. Quote
CHS King Mello Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Casella was going to keep the drums level... the center snare suggested tilting them... and so they did. I like tilted much better. ~>conner Quote
Lustra.exe Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 agreed. ------EDIT------ however, i wouldn't want to tilt the drums at my high school because it's not completely nessecary. more and more high schools start doing it and it becomes un-unique. just like match grip, but im not going to get into that. i think as a corps its fine though. TX Suh-nare Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 If you're gonna tilt the drums, you gotta play like the 2000-2004 SCV. That's what it was resurrcted for. The ultra-aggressive, ultra relaxed plying style. That's why I don't like BK too much. Their drums are tilted too much in my opinion. ( for those other DCI nerds who know bout SCV, yes thay did tilt the drums in 1998, but they still plyed goofy back then.) Quote

Cavies used to be like Machines (pun not intended) but now the percussion sections is very flowing. I like BK's line... thought they were underscored last season. -C Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Blue Knights have been underrated for years...In 2002, I thought they had one of the best dlines in DCI. Until last year, Crossmen's drumline was awesome, but they just sucked last year. Quote
CHS King Mello Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 05 Crossmen were pretty clean... just a terrible book. -C Quote
Xukaniz Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I like the Cavies line sounding like machines they were awesome enough match grip....darn you Casella! Quote
