In either 02 or 03 our band director said that if all our concert bands got sweepstakes at uil (they did) he would shave his head (he did) Sadly, i have no photographic evidence Quote

TX Suh-nare Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 1. One time, according to legend, Carmel High School won Grand Nats in the 80s with NO percussion section. Hard to believe, yes indeed. 2. Most marching bands work better when adverse ether conditions strike. Triple digit temps, rain, heck for y'all panhandle folk, northers. 3. The Great State of Texas has had the most marching bands appear in a Grand Nationals Finals from out-of-state. Can I sing, "God Bless Our Texas, and keep her brave and strong, That you may grow in power and wealth throughout the ages long." Quote

Hard to believe, yes indeed. You must be thinking of another band..... Carmel didn't start attending BOA Grand Nationals until 1994 and they won their first Grand National title this past year in 2005. Quote

TX Suh-nare Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Avon High School has a reputation for having one of the best drumlines in Indiana, but in the 2004 BOA GN, the drumline was 10 snares, 5 tenors, and (6?) basses, about 5 snares, two tenors, and a bass too dirty. Quote
Keyboard_Countessa Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 -Cypress Creek HS used to have marching pit equipment. -The Cy-Creek marching band got straight 1's at this year's Region UIL, the first time it's gotten straight 1's since the 90's. Quote
mnkyman Posted July 22, 2006 Author Posted July 22, 2006 whs stopped doing encore shows back in the 80's after they 1 state one year - they were doing the encore show and a whole bunch of students decided to switch instruments/spots and anyway - u know how that goes - and anyway there were some ppl watching the encore who just happen to be boa judges , and whs got 2nd that year at boa - since then whs has never done an encore LOL - when we won gran nats in 03 - we made arcs and stuff and ppl thought we were gonna do a encore and play our music - we ended up playing the fight song LOL - lol the person to tell me this story: mark higginbottom - he was one of those students that switched instruments - he even said he remember getting yelled at and possibly getting spit on by mr. gieger Quote
