ClaireAnnette07 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Our band director just informed us in class today that for the first time in like, 5 years, our band is going to the SHSU Marching Festival on November 4. Who's all going and what's it like? Quote
cinco_4_life811 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Cinco Ranch will be attending SHSU this year also, and from what I hear (Katy) Taylor will also be going. Each band is in a division for the preliminaries: A (65 or fewer) AA (66-119) AAA (120 or more) 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are awarded in each class, but only the 10 bands with the highest overall scores will move on to finals. So even if you don't win in your class, you could still make finals (i.e. last year we were 9th our division, and we still continued on to finals). And if you recieve 1st in your class, but are not in the top 10, you automatically move on. They also have captions for Best Color Guard and Percussion (respectively) Any other questions could probably be answered on their website http://www.shsu.edu/music/events/marchfest/ Quote
MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 i'm working at it. cus i go to sam houston, and i'm in the band. you should check us out. i think we're doing an exhibition, and i know, if we do, it's gonna be our queen show. which is pretty kick a. i particularly like the easiness of the drill. lol. MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 oh, btw, i saw pearland at BOA last week, and you guys looked amazing. great job! Quote
PrideOfPearland Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 I'll tell them that for you =) I'm glad my alumni seems to be heading back up to where they used to be. Thanks again, it means a lot to them and me =) Quote

That means I'll be crashing on the 1.5 hour trip up there Quote
amzorilla Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Wow, this contest does start early, geez. So glad our band doesn't have to go on early in the morning. We definitely never seem to be a morning type of band. Then again what high school kids are morning people? I really can't wait till this contest since a lot of the major bands aren't there because of BOA SA. It'll give a competitive atmostphere to some of those bands that aren't huge national competitors. It's a perfect combonation of good bands and bands that are decent but don't have much reputation behind them. Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 I'm just glad my school (Channelview) is in a classification with the medium-sized bands...I hope it'll be easier for us at SHSU because of that Quote
DrummerDrummer Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I am not sure how easy the AA class will be. College Park is KILLER right now, Dripping Springs and Brenham are very good. Quote
cinco_4_life811 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Once you make it to finals, class doesn't matter anyway So I don't know how much a different class classification will help very much (maybe for the preliminaries (sp?), but not for finals). Quote
dop3_mell0w Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 langham creek is going, for like the first time since 03 Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted October 30, 2006 Author Posted October 30, 2006 I am not sure how easy the AA class will be. College Park is KILLER right now, Dripping Springs and Brenham are very good. Yeah, i know...what I meant was when you're competing against schools with bands twice your size, it's harder to get a good score, so maybe we can get a somewhat better score because we're going against people our size. I can't wait for Saturday..it'll be my last marching band competition EVER [ and ] Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I am not sure how easy the AA class will be. College Park is KILLER right now, Dripping Springs and Brenham are very good. ughh i know they're good, but i haven't seen them march yet (or ever - we march right after them). If it weren't for them, we woulda made finals last year, but we would've done badly because our Band Captain sabotaged us... We should pretty well if we dont have random individual mistakes and random stuff (pasadena memorial - Hypar Effect). Here's the kicker, we might not ever go... PISD switched to 6wks grading and lots of stupid people are failing!! We'll find out tomorrow. who are Dripping Springs and Brenham? did they compete late year? Quote
MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 ok. i gotta ask you guys(people participating in this regional)... do you ever pay attention to the exhibition? cus our marching director was like, "this isn't like the BOA crowd, where all they care about is making finals..." i'm just thinking to myself... yeah, the people in these bands JUST wanted to come so they could see our halftime show, lol. Quote
ikilledabird39 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 To be honest i really dont care. CP is going to this event to get to fianls and get a top spot. Quote
MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 that was my point exactly. mr. v is so full of poo poo, jk jk. Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 YES! we are going to Sam!! we didnt lose enough people to justify dropping out! hopefully we do well get to march after CPark and before CyRidge, *shrug Quote
cinco_4_life811 Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Good luck to all the bands performing today! Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted November 4, 2006 Author Posted November 4, 2006 I wish we could have gone...we had to drop because of SATs, ineligibilities and other things..but I hope yall did really well! Quote
