CHS King Mello Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 http://www.regiment.org/story.cfm?ID=617 looks like Rick V is taking the helm of Regiment. er... didn't even expect that. I'm not sure if Seidling is leaving Phantom entirely or not... but if he does, with the new opening at Madison... could he possibly take it? Seidling has a tremendous record of bring corps back out of a slump... he broght Phantom from 7th-8th in 98-00 to 2nd in 06. Brought Southwind into striking distance of finals in 2000. we'll see... I hope Rick V doesn't turn Phantom into a reincarnation of SCV, though. -C Quote
MartinHorn Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 It'll be interesting to see what Phantom is gonna be like next year. Quote
Danpod Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I'm sure Rick will keep the Phantom Identity. Next year's show just might win. Quote

EODrillDesigner98 Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Whatever organization Rick goes he will be well respected and accpeted in his new positions. It would be totally awesome if he want with Madison. Quote

TX Suh-nare Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I'm not sure if I like Rick V. at PR. He is known for that BA SCV presence, which I don't really wanna see in a classy Phantom organization. Now, about them winning, he took over a championship Vanguard and SCV actually suffered in scores for a few years. They didn't get top three til '04, and the Vanguard suffered its worst plcement in years under his direction ('05). I really hope that doesn't happen. Phantom was making a great run at the top there! Now, I'd think it would be cool to see the resurrection of the Madison Scouts, but not at the expense of the first corps I fell in love with. By the way, what happened to Sal Salas? Quote

Regarding Rick Valenzuela's tenure at SCV from 2000-2005....he did a magnificent job. What happened in 2000 and 2005 was not his fault. After SCV let go J.W. Koester (their director from 1996-1999) after the '99 season, Rick was promoted to take over for the Santa Clara Vanguard. As always, it takes time for a corps to gel with a new director. As for 2005, staff turnovers. Take a look at the 2004 staff list and 2005 staff list. Jim Casella, gone. Jim Ancona, gone. Adam Sage, gone. Gino Cipriani, gone. Not to mention that Myron Rosander wasn't at the top of his game with their drill in 2005. Sure, SCV might not have won a championship while Rick was director but they produced some of the best shows in SCV history while he was director. My $.02. Quote

Rick is a normal guy, that is really really cool. He's not going to change the phantom image, the corps wouldn't let him if he tried. Quote
mbui Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 QUOTE (Xukaniz @ Sep 1 2006, 02:06 PM) I like SCV 2000....hehe I do as well. Vanguard 2000 is my favorite drum corps show of all-time. Just to clarify.... When I said, "What happened in 2000 and 2005 was not his fault." I was talking about the placements. When SCV went from 1st in 1999 to 4th in 2000. Quote

Fortisimo Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Lol, sounds like raw chops from Blue Devils getting third to me. I'm not really all that familiar with the guy, so hey, if he's good at what he does and therefore increases PR's chance of winning I'm down. Quote
