2024 BOA San Antonio Super Regional (Nov. 8 & 9)

Recommended Posts

Gonna be a quick down and back trip for us.  Gotta leave here around 9:30 to make it to Lot A by 11:30, band performs at 1:30, we'll be packed up and gone by 2:15, hopefully home by 4:45 depending on traffic (and how long we spend at Buccees 😉 ).  I'd really like to be home in time to catch Ronald Reagan's show streaming, at 5, and then FloMo shortly thereafter.

I think CP is going to be in the top 5 ... just my opinion from watching them at uil... yes  I know  it's a different judging style but don't see them  that low..  I would even  say top 3... they are at the level of Hebron Marcus and Vandergrift.

While I think that CP could maybe beat Marcus, Vandy and Hebron are one whole different level. They both have held top 3-4 (I'm not sure right now because I have not checked) spots in the nation. They are both crazy bands. While it's not impossible for them to be beat (Rouse beat Vandy last year at BOA Austin) I think that Vandy And Hebron have the top 2 spots pretty much locked down. It would be awesome to see CP place top 3 though for sure!!

I wouldn’t be to quick to count out FlowerMound for 2nd or 1st, especially seeing how the US bands comp went and how close they were to Hebron.

To everyone performing this weekend I hope all of you have amazing performances! Seniors, for some of you this is your last performance inspire your bandmates and leave it all on the field! Don’t leave an ounce of doubt that this was the best performance you have given all year! In order to make finals here you have to give it all that you have. Perfection is what it takes! But no matter what enjoy the moment! Us as audience members will enjoy every performance no matter what!

This would mean 0 bands outside of the top 5 in panel 2 make finals and the next 4 after the top 5 from each are all in panel 1. While possible, I doubt that will happen.

I would be shocked if any of the next 4 comes from panel 2.  In fact, I think who ever wins that fifth spot in panel 2 will finish at the bottom of finals.  Panel 1 is just that strong IMHO.  The top 4 in panel 2 are strong as well.

Great showing from Sharyland! Really mature sounds from the Trombone soloist going into the opening hit. Great sounds form the WW's with dance of vengeance. Beautiful euphonium solo in the ballad, yeah, I see why they scored well in percussion at state because that battery feature was really solid. Visually pretty clean, some cool moments in the drill, great work ya'll!!

TWHS always seems to be on the outside looking in ... in that sub-elite tier, as great as they are. In your opinion (this is a question for everyone), what do they need to do to move into regular contention for first place?

And since I'm a Bridgeland parent, what the heck, I'll ask the same question for Bridgeland - what does it need to do to move into TWHS' current position, consistently contending for 4-6?

from experience i feel like houston bands arent given as much love as austin and dallas bands (being an austinite myself). i would say bridgeland is most definitely on the up and up, it just takes time for that reputation to be built.

Houston bands are great! I just think that the lack of them at the tippy top makes it feel like they're overshadowed. I also think design down there (here? I'm a Houstonian now) tends to peak earlier when the Austin and Dallas groups really put on the afterburners.

That said, being not-from-DFW, there's a TOOOOOOOON of DFW bands that are overshadowed in the same way. Byron Nelson blew me away last year, Braswell is AWESOME this year, and McKinney is gonna turn some heads tomorrow morning. So many great bands that you never see in the dome. Wish more of them would come!

I 10 has a vehicle fire or something that’s got both ways at a standstill around Luling Bucees.  I wonder if that will affect any groups coming in from the east.

Looking at the schedule, I think the only bands that even have a chance of being affected by that are James E Taylor and Biloxi. Guess we'll find out soon enough

Another great performance by Hendrickson!! The visual work of this show is insane, so much individual and ensemble demand, and they are executing so well. Lovely sounds from the Flute duet going into the opener, great WW and brass feature. Earth song is such a pretty ballad, and that Euphonium soloists has been nailing it all season long! A couple minor discrepancies in the big line forms during the drum break, but other than that super solid showing, great job today Henny!
