2024 BOA San Antonio Super Regional (Nov. 8 & 9)

Recommended Posts

Great performance from Cedar Park to get things rolling!! Love the visual design of this show so much, soloists were amazing as they have been all season, that trombone in the ballad is so pretty. Did hear a couple of minor music errors, mainly hangovers/players playing to loud which did stick out, but other than that a very good musical run. I do still think they have potential for top half at Nats, we saw what happened in 2016. Amazing job tonight Timberwolf band!!

not really it’s two different circuits and they are looking for different things. what we can give mcneil is a huge congrats for making finals at the most comp regional in the country

That's fair. It must suck for McNeil to not make state for the first time because they were beat by two schools that have a long history of making state.

I'm excited for finals, but also bummed Wylie didn't advance. I really liked their show this year and thought it was a big step up from what they've done in the past.

It's going to be an exciting evening!

I’m so sad for them, too. I really liked their show.

there are SO many Pearland parents and supporters here … the energy is infectious and definitely adds to the atmosphere of their performance!

We are always at every competition and game, even after our kids graduate. My daughter graduated in 2023. Myself and a lot of other Pearland graduate parents still attend everything and cheer them on. Plus the friends and families of the current band kids (425 kids in the band right now). Yeah, they have a very large fan base. 🥰

So, you are saying McNeil has never missed state but were beaten by two bands because they "have a long history of making state?" I'm confused....Does history matter in a contest or not? Are you invalidating some of McNeil's previous state appearances because they "have a long history of making state?"

See the falacy in this arguement?

425 is absolutely crazy 😭 my directors weren’t kidding when they said that y’all are two times our size 😭

It’s the biggest the band has ever been. Guard is 3 times bigger than it was 2 years ago. We had 300+ kids 2 years ago, so it has grown so much and so fast.

Btw, I LOVED YOUR SHOW!!!!

WOW SEVEN LAKES!!!! That ensemble sound is just SO BIG, Holy Crap!! Yeah I honestly could see them not being the last in, because that performance was insanely good! I remember my friends and I being blown away by their volume, and I don’t know how they do it, but that brass is just pumping out some serious sound. Great work visually as well, percussion was also very clean, but my goodness 7L, amazing job tonight!!

I've heard that a bands reputation can influence the judges at UIL...moreso than other contests. So I wonder if those histories affected the scoring at UIL.

now this doesnt make sense

Canton, 4A, who has had 4 State Championships, didnt even make state this year

they had consistent state appearances since 1996 (96, 98, 00, 02, 04, 06, 08, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23) and also consistent state finals appearances since 1998 (98, 00, 02, 04, 06, 08, 10, 12, 14, 18, 20, 21, 22, i believe) their state championships were 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2018.

Our guard also grew quite a bit in size but we lost so many band members due to lack of interest and participation- and seniors (we’re gonna lose so many seniors I just realized 😭)

Also, thank you so muchh!!! You’re very kind ❤️❤️ I was blown away by Pearland!!! Y’all’s brass tone just knocks my socks off 😍

With a band that strong, how could kids lose interest? It does take a lot of commitment. Maybe they didn’t want to make that commitment. However, you are not lacking for students who are interested! 😀425 kids is a lot! Congratulations on a great show.

Oh haha! I’m not from Pearland, I’m from Foster! Sorry for the confusion…
