Westlake HS-Nouveau: 

Really great work from the guard during the preshow, love the capes on the uniforms and how they form the peace sign is so cool! Fluet duet was popping off, great balance from the woodwinds behind to not overpower the soloist while adding some great sounds, awesome drill in the opener. Lovely stuff from the brass and sextet with the woodwinds doing some jazz running on the left side of the field going to the dance break. Trumpet soloist during the ballad was so gorgeous, full band impact was amazing and the double flag work from the guard was soooo good. Tons of GE throughout the show, and could definitely make a statement tonight, amazing job Westlake!!

Well, that concludes prelims!! Amazing performances all around, and regardless of the results all kids should be proud of the amazing work they did today! Will be one of the best finals at this comp, and I'm super excited to see how our finalist do under the stadium lights. Great job today everyone, and we'll be back shortly with results!

Two of Westlakes trucks broke this morning. That's after a bus broke down coming from an away football game last night. Props to that band fam for rallying thru some misfortune. It happens at these things and it was a triple whammy. Thanks to BOA and the other bands for adjusting start times for the Chaps. 

And, truly, thanks for the very kind compliments in the messages above. This band community is a beautiful thing and we admire everyone of these programs and musicians.

Happy that my eyes and ears still haven't deceived me. Prelims went as I expected with placements that seem about right for this morning's performances. This is going to be a wild top 5 shootout tonight. If you have a hat bring some string because you are going to need something to hold them on.

I unfortunately y had to take an emergency call during their performance but I did catch the ballad and after and they sounded good for their size, could see them having a good season this year!

Cedar ridge insane comeback

no surprises yet. watched cedar ridge last night, and they look waaay better than last year, emphasis on look. guard is def on an upward swing too. congrats to all the class champs.

Cedar Ridge struggle last year was all visual. You can look at the scores from BOA San Antonio. It looks like they made the needed adjustments and thank goodness! One of my favorite band's they always have unique shows.
