tubapop Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 I didn't think Cinco Ranch was all that bad. The soloists were a bit off, such as the unfortunate trumpeter who shook his head at his own performance just as the camera panned over to him. I didn't really get the theme - lemon? I'm not sure what that is. But generally, they sounded good, much of the marching was crisp, and the salsa movement was fun and creative (not sure it was salsa, but that's what I choose to call it). lost and youraveragebandkid 2 Quote

Every band program worked to be in finals, and every band from cypress falls to college station to cinco ranch to freeman to the woodlands, worked hard to be here, so let’s build them all up as they deserve. tubapop Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 The Woodlands!!! Amazing musicality, great solos. The drill wasn't overly interesting but they marched it to perfection, moved as a single unit even with those two-tone pants that would highlight any screw ups. And this is in September. They'll be a monster in a few weeks. Parkwoodmom 1 Quote
Popular Post packwick Posted September 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2024 decided to drive up at the last minute, so i got to see Klein Oak to the end. none of the top 6 seemed out of place, tho i reeeeaaally wish i had gotten there in time to see Dawson. SFA and Tomball Memorial were both really really pleasant surprises. liked both of those quite a bit. woodlands will likely sweep again. i thought they were on a different level tonite. still some musical mud, esp w/ those tricky rhythms, but overall very strong. guard friggin killed it. that sequence of 12 7s at port w/ the partner spin in front was just nutty. nobody else can do that. kinda botched it in prelims, nailed it tonite. Expand The Woodlands lost 1 judge in each round, if I didn't miss someone. It was the same judge both rounds. TWHS won prelims by about 2 1/2 points. But maybe somewhat surprisingly got 3rd in music ensemble in that round! 👀 They created most (?) of the gap via music effect. It's that ballad, I'm telling you! Popular Post 11BandMan11 Posted September 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2024 This was a wonderful contest top to bottom! I get it to one degree, but I also don't get people being so upset when one group makes finals and the immediate vitriol and hate towards that group and the judges. These are KIDS who are working their butts off to potentially earn the ability to perform again in finals throughout the day. Go be haters somewhere else. ✌️ In any event, massive kudos and props to all the groups throughout the day! Popular Post Rubisco Posted September 30, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 30, 2024 I don't know if I've seen anything in this thread that reaches the level of "hater." I've seen disagreement with the results, as well as honest (and sometimes accurate) criticisms of some of the bands. Some of them are just general, personal opinions. "I didn't care for Band A as much as Band B." Okay, that's fine, whatever. This is a band forum. That's what happens here, along with questionable predictions. 😂 You read them, you roll your eyes, and you move on. If you want to read positive comments about every band, the TXBands LiveBlog is there for you! 👍 Unfortunately, we no longer get the Michael Boo write-ups at the end of the season, but that would have been another place to get them. crunchycookie3, clarinote, packwick and 1 other 4 Quote

Popular Post Ninelets Posted September 30, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 30, 2024 It's all subjective. From the judges...to the parents, to the kids, to these boards. If someone struggles with constructive criticism (that's really meant to make them better) then maybe this isn't the activity for them. Now that said, it can be done tactfully but tone is easily lost on a keyboard so, hang in there kiddos. It all sounds great and its just the beginning of the season too.
