Liam Allen Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Bowie HS - lots of volume. Unified sound is great. Solid opener. What Could Have Been is a tremendous ballad. I wish the trombone could be less articulate and more romantic with the solo. I think the arranging in the hit isn’t quite clear. Woodwind tonguing?! Triple tonguing wasn’t in great shape there brass. Really great ending there. Quote
BoneGuy4 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 So many good bands showing out tonight! Quote
Liam Allen Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Dripping Springs HS - ensemble amplification occurring??? Possibly. Great opener. Pretty clean stuff. Good ballad. Closer go stupid loud. Quote
Tubalord11 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Wow, those last 4, insane. Westlake visual package, ridiculous, and that ballad was soooo pretty. First time seeing Cedar Ridge, MIND BLOWN!!! I expect them to do very well the rest of the season, GE is off the charts, and they are just executing so well. Bowie-What. A. Sound!! Gosh that brass just blew the roof down! And omg Dripping Springs, absolutely stellar performance!! Definitely the ballad of the night imo, but they are not playing around, could definitely see them in state finals!! Overall an amazing night, here’s my guess at placements, was close to the field so not a ton of visual judging I could do: Cedar Ridge (sweep) Dripping Springs James Bowie Westlake MG Johnson 7L Aledo Timber Creek Hendrickson Sachse Keller Central Centennial Miyazuu and symphbee2 2 Quote
symphbee2 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 This was such a fantastic finals lineup - I've watched so many BOA finals and this may be the most even playing field from top to bottom I have ever seen! Almost all of my placements could be flipped by one or two spots. Incredible job to every band that performed tonight! 1. Cedar Ridge (Music, GE) 2. Dripping Springs (Clear Best Visual) 3. Bowie (POWERFUL show, GE very close 2nd) 4. Westlake (best Woodwinds every time) 5. MG Johnson (my personal favorite) 6. Aledo (such a fun show) 7. Timber Creek (could break into top half, very interesting show concept) 8. Seven Lakes (powerful sound, love the music selection) 9. Keller Central (was astounded that they were the first band to perform, great choreo) 10. Sachse (big sound, cool props and concept) 11. Hendrickson (loved their Earth Song ballad) 12. Burleson Centennial (cool props, lots of visual responsibility) Tubalord11 1 Quote
Liam Allen Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 2A Exhibition - Grapevine HS The Phantom Regiment 2023 props make a reappearance on my eyeballs! In the circle form no less. Some Regiment 2022 music! Batman referenced??? Stealing Crown openers for ballads is tight. More Regiment back to Chandelier and a bicycle ridden clear out of the stadium to end it! goat_trumpet 1 Quote

GeekBoy54 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 It was really entertaining watching all the people in the very front dance along to all of Baylor's drumline cadences during retreat! Tubalord11 and PenguinGuy 2 Quote
Magma31651 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I don't understand how scores go wildly up and down all over the place every week for some bands. It doesn't seem consistent at all to me BandAlumMom 1 Quote

Idk lol Scores are good to see the gap between bands within the contest itself but I try not to compare them from contest to contest. That's why a lot of people look at rankings to make predictions at other events and make judgement on where a band is in the season. Quote

Popular Post Bands4eva Posted October 20, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2024 The performances were so fun. Congratulations to all the students, staff and parents involved in all the hard work!! Been to many BoA events and the spectatoe logistics in Waco were wack. The stadium is beautiful. But leaving after prelims was dangerous how they funneled so many people thru a tiny gate. They didn't open the second level and seating for the Baylor performance and the awards was just dumb. Couldn't even hear the announcer in the end zone. One concessions open. Those musicians waited in line forever. 50 bucks a head. BoA needs to take a long hard look at treating their spectators(and musicians) better. LeanderMomma, FaultLineBlues and Miyazuu 3 Quote
