Region 17 just wrapped up the regional marching competition with all 6A schools qualifying for the Area E marching competition.  Good luck to all bands, moving forward!

Not enough sam rayburn high school in any of these lists. Like how you gonna leave the school who went to state in 1980-1983 4 times consecutively. Like they still got that dawg in them and could beat

after uil and a confirmed 10 final spots here are my rankings.

1. Pearland

2. Dawson

3. Clear Brook/ Dickinson

4. Clear Brook / Dickinson

5. Shadow Creek

6. Foster

7. Fulshear

8. SFA

9. Clear Lake

10. Pasadena Memorial

My predictions after UIL 

1. Pearland

2. Dickinson

3. Dawson

4. Foster

5.Clear Brook/Clements

6. Clear Brook/Clements/SFA

7. Clear Brook/Fulshear/SFA

8. Shadow Creek

9. Pasadena Memorial

10. Clear Lake

After watching UIL runs I believe Clements is criminally underrated this year even though they had a shaky start they may be able to sneak into that 5th state spot, everyone is going to be battling it out for the last state spot and there are going to be some upsets in finals for sure, 5-7 are all interchangeable since they are all able to place well in finals, all finalists have really strong shows so anything can happen, Foster especially with such an early call time they will need to give it their all in prelims.

Question: can I make a predictions list even tho I’m in one of the bands competing in this contest (I won’t bias Foster, I swear ✋🏻)

Very unlikely, but they are a Darkhorse as Oboeish20 said. It's about clean clean, and improving overall sound, and visuals.

A new ateendee might be Foster, they can most likely definitely pull it off after being promoted to 6A.

Pasadena Memorial is fun, it's fun checking in every week with them because they post every run publicly unlike others, they either add some crazy choreo or new drill. Definitely rooting for them, idk about State, but I'm sure making Area Finals is their top priority after advancing for their first time last year in school history

Okay another question: what is a “darkhorse” in terms for a marching band show? I’ve heard that word been thrown around for a lot of shows lately (PM and Cinco Ranch to name a few) and I was just wondering what it meant…

A darkhorse show, is really a band that was expected to not really do well at all, and just pops off, and has an amazing show.

Cinco Ranch, and Pasadena Memorial are great examples, because they didn't really have much success at all in their programs for like the past few years or even their entire school history.

But these bands are actively changing the norm this year, and showing that change is everything.

Any band can improve, and be better, these people show that it's possible, and that's what people love to see.

What do you think of Travis this year? So far they've made BOA Finals for the first time in school history and placed 6/23 at battle at berry and 3rd in class? Their progress in the past couple of years has been pretty good too
