UIL 6A Area E 2024

The hardest part about next weekend is that Area E can only send 5 bands to state, but there are more than 5 state-worthy shows this year.  That is also the greatest thing about next week’s competition.  
 

I predict that Pearland, Dickinson, and Austin will grab the top three spots.  After that, it’s a true battle of the bands between Brazoswood, Brook, Clements, Dawson, Foster, and Fulshear for the remaining two spots. 
 

Of those six bands, I predict that the top three will be Brook, Dawson, and Foster.  I won’t pick an order at this point because it will come down to who brings it on the best in finals.

I argue that you aren't looking at bands like Clear Lake, Shadow Creek, Pasadena Memorial, Clear Falls.

I just looked at the scores for Gulf Coast, and Clear Lake was one judge away from beating Clear Brook. They have the show. They all do.

I have doubts for Clements and Brazoswood, they have had the slowest starts in both their respected bands. Brazoswood lost to George Ranch at BOA, and Tomball in USBands, and Clements has showed similar results.

They both might have names that hold the value of making state, and being some of the best no doubt. Though at the end of the day judges, don't look at how good you were. 

But don't leave anybody out just yet. And if yall wanted to know Dickinson got straight ones at gulf coast. Brook was 2,3,3,2,2 Lake 3,2,2,3,3.

In all seriousness, you can’t just compare a program or your own program to other programs just because of what you’ve done in the past. You gotta focus in on what’s gonna happen that Saturday morning/afternoon/evening to show that you really matter in this Area, and that’s the mindset I’m trying to get into before this Saturday.

3. Dickinson (Just behind Dawson because they play a little less well but look better)

4. Stephen F. Austin (Very effective show but not as refined as it is effective)

5. Clear Brook (Similar story to SFA but less visually effective)

6. Foster (Super hard show, they are going to be a victim of draw time most likely)

7. Shadow Creek (Beautiful show, Huge sound, clean drill, some of the show feels pedestrian)

8. Pasadena Memorial (While their music scores will be lower than this, they look VERY clean and move well)

9. Clear Lake (They sound very good, visual accuracy is inconsistent)

10. Churchill Fulshear (Great production value, execution is not as solid)

Saw it at the Alvin Invitational, loved it. It's Phoenix themed or something like that. They have flower props on the field.

Now take this with a grain of salt because besides Pearland getting the obvious gold, it’s anyone’s game (which is why I was hesitant to make this in the first place- also I didn’t wanna be rude to other people that view these forums that are a part of these programs and I don’t rank them as high as they’d probably hoped for) so pleaseee don’t take this seriously, the results might be wildly different this Saturday!

Obvious Winner:

4-6. SFA (Have heard so many awesome things from SFA but have yet to see their show- will probably watch it during lunch tomorrow on YouTube if I can find it…)

4-6. Clear Brook (Love the theme and the uniforms! Guard and percussion splendid as always!! Also their ensemble sound is just so awesome!!)

4-7. Foster (hmm…I wonder who these guys are… never heard of them 😜- in all seriousness, we have what it takes to make state but performance time is really screwing us over)

6-8. Pasadena Memorial (all I have to say: HOLY. DRILL. 🤯)

8-10. Shadow Creek (beautiful flute soloist and VERY clean feet holy crap… idk if I should place them higher 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Hi, I'm from Dulles. Has anyone seen our show this year and have any opinions on it? Unfortunately, we weren't able to attend any non-UIL competitions this year, so it's been quite a rough season for us. We don't have a strong history of making it to finals but I just wanted to hear some outside opinions on our show. Thanks and good luck to all the bands! :)

yea i completely agree with this list, but its so hard to place bubble bands cause they went to such a wide variety of contests. I would almost be tempted to say Elkins for a Bubble one though. But my best score comparison for that would be comparing 2 different BOA contests, and with different judges its hard to confidently do that.

I figured I was forgetting a band!! Adding Elkins (and Clements bc who knows?) on my list

Ive always been conflicted on it, but do yall think comparing BOA contests score wise holds much weight?

 

Cause from looking at the 2 boa sheets, it seems like the trend for the schools who did both had them increasing at around a point and a half. And if you apply that it places Elkins surprisingly high compared to some of the bands. But also keep in mind both of those contests were pretty early on in the season.

May be wrong, but didn't yall play Elkins Friday? If so, did yall get to see their show?

Yes, we did! They didn't face our side, so we kind of just heard the sound bouncing off of their stands, but it was pretty cool! There were some excerpts of Frozen 2 in there and from where we were, the visuals looked clean and the hits were awesome!

I'm a Clements kid, so I haven't seen your show in person yet; however, my cousin marches in your band so I have gotten a few recordings of the show!
I LOVE the Bloombox idea (such a cutesey idea) and yalls soloists are amazing

I'm a guard kid, so I'll just talk about them (Sorry I can't offer band opinions, but it sounds nice )

I like how they add a pop of color to the monochrome band outfits

I especially love the swing flag section & the flower contraption thingy 

All in all, an amazing show. I loved watching the videos, and I can't wait to see you at Area!
(Also kudos to your band moms for the creative mums at yalls hoco! Loved the bloombox mums :D)
