It really does suck when stuff like this happens. Like, really REALLY REALLY  *breathes in*
REAAAAALLLLYYY

Sucks...

But things like this will happen. And its sad because now we lose another band that would surely be qualified for State Finals out of the rankings. It makes the Area contest that much more stressful since now you have to be in the top 4, and at this contest the 4th spot IS THE SPOT that I can see 4 bands in (Jordan, Seven Lakes, JET, and Cinco Ranch ((or Woods again since lately they have had the Crown Curse of 4th place at Area Finals, probably not this is just a funny joke)) )

this issue sounds incredibly familiar... it almost happened with 5a area h where a band got dq'ed but thankfully they were the 26th band in the region making it go down to 25 at area, keeping the 5 state spots. that's incredibly tragic and I wish those who are fighting for the 4th spot the best of luck

After reading all these comments about the Area having 4 state spots is TRULY DEPRESSING. I was rooting for Jordon to go to state this year and now its gonna be really hard to for them to make the top 4 all because cy lakes decided that they wanted to march an ineligable marcher it ABSOLUTLY SUCKS. And when we get the results on who made 5th place this weekend knowing that they could've made state all because of cy lakes decision to march someone who was ineligible IS SOOOOO SAD that all of those poor kids could've gone to state

I doubt it was a conscious decision to march an ineligible marcher.  If they realized after fact, and then reported themselves...as much as it sucks...they did the honorable thing.  It's rough though.  I don't know much about this Area...would they have contended for a State spot themselves? Wish the system was something solid like 5 bands per area no matter size.  Will definitely feel for the band that finishes 5th....but there will be AMAZING bands in in C and J that also will miss state because Region is LOADED but has a smaller number of bands.

I'm not sure how this would happen. At our our school the directors are all in our students grades. They start looking at all 300 of the students grades weeks before the end of a grading period and are on them daily to get their grades up to passing. Is it possible that someone had a grade change after the fact that made them somehow ineligible?

Chances are, I think, the day will go as normal OR is pushed to Monday.  UIL will keep student safety at heart.  If the weather is so bad you can't get woodwinds out I am almost certain they will call the contest because no directors would put that kind of incomplete product out there.  Maybe back in the early 2000's, but things have changed.

I really think its best to not slash or bash Cy-Lakes right now, they are probably getting messages and emails and lots of controversy from parents as well as the school district and the school itself, if they did out themselves, then they did the honorable thing like @JFNDOWBFANsaid, they are already dealing with the things that I've mentioned plus the reputation, other schools/directors that are on the bubble of state, upset students, plus they also must deal with the fact that they are responsible for a school not going to state, as well as a new area schedule. Respectfully, I don't think adding any more stress onto them is going to do any good for anybody. I would imagine the band that gets 5th won't be too happy with Cy-Lakes, so they will have to deal with this on Saturday as well. So many factors, changed schedules...all of the things, so with that said, I hope we have some great band showings and performances on saturday!!!!

Yeah your absolutly right. I didn't mean any harm with my previous comment towards cy lakes I was just so upset and sad at the same time that the 5th place band who ever they might won't be going to state and all the students their would be upset.

"If there are 20 to 29 bands that qualify for an area contest or 20 to 29 bands in a state contest the top 10 bands will advance from the preliminary round to the final round. Unless somehow the 11th place band gets a pair of 3's from the music judges and a 3 from the marching judge...that would be interesting and fun, lol...the Area is very deep but I'm not sure it's THAT deep.

I LOVE ALL OF YOUR MUSICAL SELECTIONS, but tbh y'all have to really lock in to make finals and knock out cy ranch from making finals but overall y'all might beat us or we might beat y'all its really close between us so I would say y'all might get 11th-12th overall but best of luck for saturday and MAY THE BEST BAND WIN โ˜บ๏ธ

Preach! The situation is terrible for the kids, parents, directors, community, and more. I obviously can't guarantee this, but no director I've ever known would DELIBERATELY have an ineligible student march in performance - it's simply not worth it.

Like what happened to a group years ago up north, if I were a betting man there was probably a student who was behind a prop on the field that was ineligible. The moment the clock starts for the start of the show, if that student was in the performance zone of the field, that's a DQ for the group. As people have already said, let's not intentionally or unintentionally add to the fire on the already terrible situation that is occurring.

Preach! And I know this is unfortunate for the kids that are at our finalist schools That could have gone to state, and our state bubble groups as well as a school that has hasnโ€™t missed state in this area before (7L). But at the very LEAST they will get to march at area Saturday and most likely march at finals. The kids at Cy-Lakes had their season end the second they walked into that band hall today; no figuring out they didnโ€™t make finals, no knowing that prelims was likely gonna be their last run, but โ€œweโ€™ve been disqualified from area, our season is over.โ€ And it really sucks in general, itโ€™s just a sucky situation. I hope we can do the best with what weโ€™ve got Saturday.
