Can’t wait to see Heath’s full show! I think they can compete for finals spot. I know many were surprised they didn't make Don Hanna Finals (missed by a point)….but I heard there show wasn’t complete yet and didn’t have enough on field to be scored completely 🤷. We shall see. I don’t expect them to make finals at Waco. This will be their first time dipping their toes in at BoA. But I hope its a great experience for the kids and can give them a boost of confidence going into area. I feel like they are really challenging themselves vs going to a Royse City contest they have Grand Championed at the past few years. That’s no disrespect to the RC contest. But the McKinney and BOA’s is simply a step up in competition. Go Heath!

Yeah at Don Hanna they only had two out of three acts on the field and there were some musical errors throughout. For BoA though I believe they're being bussed home before the bands that made finals are even announced so I'm not sure if they're even trying for finals here or if they're going strictly to get some good feedback before UIL things start

Okay yeah, not surprised about that, especially after reading the other comments you made here. I definitely think they’ve got a super solid shot at finals, this area is just so stacked but it’s definitely possible with a good run, would love to see them in!

I think that was the same at BOA Dallas. They were only like 3 points off from finals. Also we need to take into mind that Berkner hasn't preformed in a comp for several weeks so until UIL (Unless any parents want to speak up) we won't really know for sure how much work they have done. I think this last month of the season is when the most improvement happens so I would expect Berkner to jump a place or two in area from where we had them in predictions.

Pearce got first at a competition recently, and everyone is going crazy. We should also look at their score and where they placed in Area B finals last year. Going from 12th to 3rd or 4th at area finals is a HUGE jump for any band. I don't think they might be in the Top 5 but I could definitely see them in the 6-8 range but who knows all those RISD schools are coming with heat this year. Area is going to be a VERY eventful day...

I think Richardson’s guard drags them down, a lot as well, judges in finals had their guard placed as low as twelfth. Their visual is definitely less strong than their music.

I found a video of their prelims run from US Bands and I think they might be a strong contender to BOA Waco finals (maybe 11th or 12th if they can really perform a great show.) and depending on their scores this weekend I could predict a high Area placement as well.

Yup they took almost all the main competition from C and just smashed us into J☹️ I will miss C, and gotta deal with J for 3 more years

I definitely agree with that… missed BOA Waco finals with an unlucky run (malfunctioning electronics plus some other things). I personally think that if they can get the details together, they’ll be a strong state contender—but holy, that tarp is a logistical nightmare. I think their battery drags their score down as well- it’s too big to be properly clean. Also, I don’t know how much this affects anything, but their uniforms really bring down the production level of the show… who let that one get through? 

 

What do you guys think of them this year? Also, if any of y’all saw their prelims run at Waco I’d love your opinion. They seem like an interesting wild card this year if they improve.

I love heaths show! The ending is so calming and with all the band falling in circles around the color guard to symbolize roses blooming im assuming. I hope I will get to watch them at Area.

Region 21 had contest today. Only 2, 6A bands that can advance to this contest, or actually, since Longview is military, think just Tyler. Anyone know if they got their 1?

Great job! That stadium sure doesn’t seem conducive to watching bands though and heard they were not letting people into the upper deck.

Yeah everyone had to be on the first level and only the home side seating was open

I’m not sure about if they got a 1, but even though Longview is a military they’re 1 still counts towards Area. Also Tyler Legacy got a 1 rating at the mesquite marching festival on September 28th so they should get a 1 tonight. Longview got a medal at the military state marching contest so they should also get a 1.

Tyler Legacy and Longview received ones, as anticipated.

My takeaways from Tyler Legacy’s performance tonight:

-Significantly more power musically. Completely different sound from years past. Sounds significantly better than years past too.

-Low brass needs to work on their timbre and articulation, there are a few moments that don’t sound appealing.

-Mello’s need to improve their intonation and not losing power in the beginning hit.

-The ballads spacing needs to be cleaned up visually from left to right.

-Ballad isn’t bad musically, but could be cleaned up in terms of balance and confidence in the soloist.

-The color guard is the best it’s been for Tyler Legacy, I think ever, though they still need to clean up the end of the show.

-The third movement is really good visually, a little dirty musically. 

 

I have more thoughts, but I think this is the best TL has looked in a while. It’s nowhere near perfect but all of the things I noticed (and everything the judges noticed as well) will definitely be cleaned up by area. If they have a really good day at area, I think they can compete for a finals spot.

I think when Area C initially lost the big dogs to Area J, they thought C would get easier. Ultimately, what it means is 4 more AMAZING bands will get a shot at state.

I've asked around a bit and I haven't seen any yet. Hopefully one good recording will come up soon. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed their show. Their opener was super enticing, their brass was truly engaging, and their theming was really well done (I even recognized some gears from Heath's show the year prior). Their placement at Waco was a little higher than I was initially predicting but it was a welcome surprise! I love to see more Area C schools showing up and showing out! I'll keep on the look out for any solid recordings!

i will say it was done for balancing purposes cause they know when certain areas are getting ridiculously hard. area c back then was a nightmare, but overall its somewhat easier now imo.
