i will say it was done for balancing purposes cause they know when certain areas are getting ridiculously hard. area c back then was a nightmare, but overall its somewhat easier now imo.

Yeah, but in creating a balanced Area they gave us an absolute abomination elsewhere 😭

I agree I do think this area is a lot easier, however, the bands here are still at a pretty high level. Like not Lewisville level but if you were to come watch area finals you will not be disappointed with the caliber of bands.

You are right about that. I think if you were to say that last year, I would've thought that was just a joke and would've laughed my butt off. But this year, honestly anything can happen at this point. Besides from Waxahachie and Forney, nobody's safe.

I wouldn’t count Forney as safe!!

I’ve found a video of NF at their most recent competition. Blown away by their volume, hope it’s more surprising in person at region/area.

Music includes mixes of different shows from other bands in the past

Correct me if wrong…Longview is a military band. Their “1” counts towards band number at area but they won’t actually march at area. Is that correct?

I’m going on a limb and saying Prosper is above Forney. I know it’s my own school, but we have actually competed with 6A schools before, and we tend to place below prosper and all the Lewisville Schools. I am not overlooking our recent success, but it’s something that cannot be overlooked, regardless of BOA judging. However, I do have faith in Forney thriving in 6A, especially now that we’ve been brought into the spotlight. It’s something I wish I could experience, but unfortunately college calls and I answer. 😔

I came from Marcus, which is one of the 6A Lewisville schools, and I've seen like how much of the hard work they put in. I haven't gotten the chance to see their show this year from the region contest this past weekend unfortunately, but I bet it would be that good for them to make it to area. I wish all the 6A bands in this area good luck, and have a great marching season!!!

Just to put some variety into the flooded US bands and BOA front page lol, if you looked at what the spring UIL meeting entails, they may potentially change the 5 judge system to have Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Vis. Ensemble, and Vis. Individual. How do you guys think this may change the competition in terms of potential finalists, and state qualifiers?

I think personally (grain of salt, of course) we will see Marcus take 1st much more often considering their percussion and visuals place higher generally more consistently than Hebron, especially this year, I could see Prosper maybe taking ground from Flower Mound happening sooner unless they beef up next year, and Boyd will likely place consistently higher considering their percussion is one of the strongest programs (and from what Ive seen from their band they are going to be insane this year along with McKinney High), otherwise I cant really say and would like to hear some other peoples opinions, and maybe how it may affect some lower placing groups into maybe going way higher, curious on what other people think about it

I like the way that you're thinking, and I hope that does happen too (as a former Marcus HS band kid [moved to a different school]), but some of these I might wait to see how it goes, because I have not seen any of the 6A bands shows from this year (if someone has those, please share cause I really want to see them).

For sure, I think the top 5 and bottom 5 will have a pretty big point gap since Wax and Lake Highlands work on totally different levels. I'm starting to think there will be a competition between state (Wax, Sashse, Forney, DVille, maybe Berkner and RockWall as well) and then one for bottom 5 (Berkner, Lake Highlands, JJ, Mesquite, ext). Those bottom bands for finals will still be great but I think there will be a pretty large gap.

I think they have to show up to area to be counted. Could be wrong but getting confirmation would be great

@Tubalord11 @Dallas Hobbs Do either of you know for sure how military bands count towards number of bands that qualify for area.....and thus the allotment to state.  In this situation, we are trying to determine if Longview's 1 at Region contest....though they wouldn't march at Area still counts as an area band.  6A C needs 20 bands to qualify for Area to gain a 4th state spot. Not much wiggle room.... Let's go ALL bands on Wednesday!  haha

I’m 99% sure that military bands count even if they don’t show up to area. Area C 5A sent like 4 bands to state last year and had less then 20 at area itself.

If I remember correctly, there 1 should count towards this area, I think. I know that if a band gets a 1 and opts out of area, there 1 still counts towards the number of bands to state (for example, if 25 bands get 1 but only 21 go, they still send 5 to state).

Very interesting, thanks for that insight
