The "C Shakeup" is going to be fascinating and leaves things wide open.  Waxahachie, Forney, Rockwall, Berker, Duncanville.....don't sleep on Heath and Royse City....I feel at this point, Rockwall is ahead of where they were at this point the past few years.  Football team has 4 long road trips this year....hoping band is able to rest up on those trips though... maybe prep them for a bus ride to San Antonio this November!

I'm not sure this will be the Waxahachie runaway people are predicting--let's not forget Forney passed Leander in finals last year at state, and has only become bigger since then. In fact, I'm currently thinking they're the favorite to win this area in their first year at the 6A level. Of course, Waxahachie always wayyyy places my expectations when it comes to UIL. Even still, I'm thinking we'll have a brand new 6A area champ this year.

I'm thinking there's a extremely strong chance as well and personally have Forney winning as well. Obviously, that's for now, once the season gets going but if we had no new comps to base predictions on I'd probably have Forney in 1st.

Date: November 2, 2024

Location: Mesquite Memorial Stadium (most likely)

Well, as if Area C hadn’t been more competitive, it seems like its going to be even more competitive than it already was, now that Forney is in the mix (let’s just see if they are ready to compete with the big dogs in 6A). This has always been a fun one with just about every single band having finals potential and the top 15 having state potential. This is arguably the toughest area in the state of Texas and truly no one is safe (except the LISD trio of course) but you get the idea.

Think adding Forney will be awesome!

Not to be a hater, but I don’t think Heath is gonna be they high. Ik it’s a complete different comp, and they definitely have a chance at finals, but unless it’s a miracle year, probably bottom 2. I also think Lake Highlands will be top 7, as they have made finals at are B the last 3 seasons in a row. Richardson will also be in finals assuming they build off last season. Here’s my current preds:

1. Forney

2. Waxahachie

3. Rockwall

4. Berkner

5. D-Ville

6. Sachse

7. Lake Highlands

8. Pearce

9. Richardson

10. Royce City

With what I've seen of Forney, I believe there’s a chance they can pull over with Waxahachie, although I can’t say if we were favored by UIL or BOA last year cause we performed well at both. For now though, my predictions are the same with Waxahachie over Forney being the one difference.

I see what you're saying and I do agree Lake Highlands could place higher. However in regards to Heath, I do see them placing high this year. Maybe not 5th but their show this year is much better than its been in years previous and they have it pretty clean for this early in the season

That’s great to hear! Would love to see them make finals here

My exact list!

Especially with forney getting the last slot and Waxahachie getting 2nd I think in prelims forney will definitely take it and it’ll be a battle for first place in finals.

If your top 4 make the final and are the last 4 marching in finals (can’t remember if finals order is based on prelim results) the anxiety level will be high. 😂

A few years ago, all the bands were waiting in the stands when all of a sudden, the RHS OWB started filing out before results announced. Turned out they had secured the last spot in finals and were going to be first to march and had to go warm up.

I really like the balance of this area tbh. Even with Waxahachie and Forney being the front runners, it feels like a lot of groups, even some that aren’t mentioned as often but are still know for being excellent such as Sachse, John Horn, and Lake Highlands could definitely have a shot at top 4 if they play their cards correctly. I also think 4 state spots seems pretty fair (imo at least) for this group as it feels achievable to snag a spot but is also not a walk in the park either. I do wish things were a little more balanced for our friends in Area B and J tho. As for Berkner, I think this is a great opportunity for them to build on last year’s success and hopefully start producing more state appearances. Finally, something I’d really like to see is for Lake Highlands to make a great run and snag one of those spots. They were consistent finalists in Area B these last couple years and with the right show and execution, they can definitely find success here.

Completely agree. Idk so much about Horn yet, ever since the new director in 19 they haven’t been the same, but Mesquite isd has been on the rise a lot post Covid. I’m very to see how Lake Highlands does here bc they’ve been on a role as well, really a lot of programs here have been doing great of late, gonna be a very competitive finals!

Fair enough on Horn. I just remember them having that great run in Area C that one year so I’ve always had them in mind since then so hoping to see a return to form from them sometime soon.

COVID literally killed the band, at least for a while, they did move themselves further away from last place last year but they still need to find their foundation and keep improving in order to reach where they used to be in 2018, I feel for those directors that watched the band crash because of something completely out of their control, because a simple director change doesnt make you go from the size of McKinney Boyd/Sachse along with being a state qualifier to barely having a percussion section and being near last in the area in a year

Wow I didn’t know that at all thanks for educating me on that. That’s really unfortunate I hope they can bounce back at some point
