While I did not see their prelims or finals performances, with this being uncharted territory for WM I’m inferencing that not only doing two performances in one day but the pressure of possibly going to state played a big part in the drop. But the way I see it you look at WM a decade ago in 2014 when I was a freshman saxophonist where us getting a one in a non state year was huge to now just shows how much West has grown. This is apart of the process that they are on and with the trajectory that they are on I fully believe that they’ll keep improving. Mr. Gibson and Ms. Brown who are the assistant band directors and who I marched under have been at west for a long time and their hard work along with head director Jennifer Borders have taken them to heights i thought I wouldn’t see for another couple of years but those kids have a lot potential for even bigger things.

Congratulations to NM, Poteet, Mount Pleasant, and LC on going to state!!! Super happy to MP and Lakeview going, first time for LC and a long time for MP. Really sucks with what happened to WM, but I had this same experience during my HS days where my band was going to state in prelims but then we weren't in finals. It happens, part of having to be consistent from one performance to the next. As for Kaufman, Ig it just wasn't there day, probably just some nervous going in as that tends to happen when people expect you to make it after doing so well at previous comps. Regardless, congratulations to everyone whose comp season ended, some really amazing shows in this area this year!!

Good morning everyone I just wanted to congratulate all state qualified bands. Especially MP and LC for making state for the first time in over 30 years. And for any other finalists bands congrats and don’t let this put you down!! I’m upset aswell over WM but understanding the judges point of view the show didn’t have big music hits but it was great visually. Can’t wait to see them next year.

I saw this AMAZING contest yesterday. Congratulations to ALL the winners.. however... I find the rankings between Poteet and West Mesquite a little weird. 

How did West go from 2nd to 6th and Poteet from 5th to 2nd in finals. I feel like theres no way for that dramatic of a jump, even if they did have a better 2nd run.. I also heard rumors about one of the judges being ex poteet staff? 

what do you guys think?

You do have to keep in mind that 2 of the music judges switch to visual from prelims to finals and vice versa. So, except for one judge, it’s a completely different and new contest. This is done so that the bands truly get a second chance, so having a better run will be rewarded in finals.

Yes congratulations to all bands who preformed last night it was a great turnout in my opinion. 

About West and Poteet basically switching places, I don’t think that’s an impossible thing to do, not saying that because it already happened, but because the band members just have to find it within themselves to do what they did in prelims but just better! West had a great run and I absolutely love their show but there was a shift where Poteet just came out on top for those final scores.

I also think that rumor is completely biased against Poteet. Even if there was an “ex poteet staff” in that press box that night, visual and music judges switched what they were judging anyways. I just think we both need to see the band for the kids who put their all into last night. Everyone wanted to win but only a couple came out on top.

Kaufman kids have been notorious for talking bad about Poteet kids and other schools… There were remarks being made from Kaufman to Poteet from way before this contest and even before prelims. The classiest always win🤷🏻‍♂️

The names of the judges that were present that night have no matching connection to any "ex poteet staff".
