anyone completely SHOCKED by the results?

i was.

Not really. There are some placements that I don't agree with, but overall it is very close to what I expected.

After watching Finals, my placements were:

1. Hebron

2. PESH

3. Sachse

4. Grapevine (Their show was one of the best played and marched, it just wasn't loud or crowd pleasing because of it's content.)

5. Colleyville

6. Rowlett

7. Mansfield (They really cleaned it up for Finals, but I didn't think 5 places worth.)

8. Northwest

9. Creekview

10. Centennial.

Haha, I think I saw behind you Xenon for about 5-10 minutes because I saw someone with the TxBands.com shirt and a notebook with short reviews written down. So it was probably you, unless I am wrong.

Yeah, that was me.

Why didn't you come and introduce yourself? ;)

Haha I just signed up on this site after the contest, and noticed one of your posts saying you'd be there with your txbands shirt on and all. That's when I realized that was you!

Do you have a review of the contest?

I'm actually working on it right now. I should have it up sometime tonight or tomorrow.

I didn't get there until after the first break, so it won't have any of the bands before then except for Wakeland and Centennial since they had exhibitions.

Hey Xenon!

What did you think of Colleyville's show?

We only had 4 of our 6 movements on the field last night.

We felt that if we could place fourth with an incomplete show against some very good bands(Hebron, Plano East, Sachse), then imagine when our show is complete.

Everyone else did excellent last night. It was really good to see a very competitive contest this early.

I'm just wondering, did you see our show(Newman Smith)/write anything about it? I just want to hear someone else's perspective.

I liked the show and thought it had a lot of potential for later in the year, but that there was still a lot to be worked on. I liked all of the suttle GE stuff (like the trumpets showing off and the band just waving them off), but I'm not too sure about that front woodwind ensemble. It could work, the transition it to it just needs to be looked at some.

Haha, was that your band that stood on the field and played? If not, then there was a band that marched part of their show then just stood on the field and played the rest of it.

I liked Colleyville's show overall. It was pretty good!

Yeah, I saw y'alls show both while y'all were practicing and after prelims. Y'all will be in my review, but the jist of it will be that it's the best Medusa that I've seen in a long time. It's real nice seeing that show actually being done some justice.

Xenon, thank you for replying.

I agree with everything you said and yes the whole show is a work in progress just like any other band's show. The transition that you were talking about with the woodwinds is still a work in progress we are trying to make the transition between movement 3 and 4 better.

What did you think of the brass ensemble?

-I was part of it the tuba standing right next to the baritones (if looking at field from audience).

I thought it was very nice and controlled; as expected, some of the better sounds of the show.

Warfact, your show was really good a lot of people that we were sitting around were impressed with the drill in your show myself included.

Why did you guys just stand there at the end of your show a lot of people wanted to know what that was about.

Recap: I think your music is really good and your show was good as well. Was it a complete show?

I really don't quite understand why we just stand there while they announce the finals results, but our director just told us we were going to stand there for a really long time.

Last year, right after we finished, we went to the center of the field and sat down while we waited for the announcements. My back started to hurt, trying to keep good posture lol ;)

I'm anxious to hear other people's opinions on our show. I like to know what other people think about our show (good or bad).

I think PESH should have won but they had a better prelims performance than a finals performance.

Between the exhibition performance and prelims announcements there's really nothing else the band can do. There's not enough time (nor much of a reason) to file into the visitor stands, and it would be sort of rude to go off and shuffle into the locker rooms to change. That pretty much leaves either sitting down or standing at a rest position- personally, I prefer the sharper of the two.

Minus the whole 5 o'clock glare beating down in everyone's eyes, of course.

They were performing in exhibition so I was just asking a question about logistics. I wasn't trying to be rude.

No worries man, no offense taken. I just have the tendancy to answer questions with overly elaborate and thorough responses. Guess I probably should've rephrased my response to sound less clinical. Tis' the pitfall of text.
