chickora Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Dude, we should all meet up.. us band kids that go to txbands.!! =))) Good idea or what?? That's if we are in the stands. After our performance, we plan to go to the mall and chillax for a while. I hope that doesn't kill our focus. WELL, MAY THE BEST BAND WIN! Quote
bored2damax Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 I just found out that we are going to end the show up to the pages weve just been working on. Its pretty cool but really hard. I heard that they are going to have retreat also, maybe we can all meet up during the retreat. Quote
bored2damax Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 After the football game today, i think that Akins could pull out and win this competetion. They were really good today during half time. As for us, we could be better. Quote
jmj Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Finals scores from the Cedar Park Timberwolf Marching Festival. 1. Akins-89.05 2. Round Rock-84.5 3. Georgetown 83.6 4. Westwood- 80.2 5. Vista Ridge- 78.4 6. Leander- 78.35 7. Seguin- 74.7 8. Lake Travis- 74.05 9. Bryan- 58.65 10. Robstown- 58.6 11. Lampasas 53.75 Brief thoughts... -Akins was tremendous, lots of velocity, and they played the heck out of Pines of Rome. Many nice soloists, especially the flute solo. This is a very good show all the way through, and it demands attention from the first note to the last. -Cedar Park (Exhibition Band)--This show is incredible. Shostakovich Sym. No.10 and Fire of Eternal Glory are good music choices that showcase these great players. The ensemble sound is so very well balanced, controlled, and focused. Great brass chords with good dynamic contrast/control. The woodwinds are amazing! The runs are clean and, of course, ridiculously hard. I don't know if I've ever heard so many notes from a marching woodwind section. The marching is very clean with some good velocity and intricacy, as well. Quote
takigan Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Wow, looks like Leander really sucked it up in the finals. Weren't they third going into prelims? Still waiting for this miraculous turnaround I've been hearing about that's supposed to bring them back to their old glory days. I was talking to a Leander alumnus today while working the marching festival that Blinn College hosts (which had crappy turnout this year due to BOA I might add >_>) and she mentioned how Leander and Cedar Park are rivals. Cedar Park's rivals? Psh....Don't brand yourself with a title until you've earned it I always say . Oh yes....and a congratulations to the winner....Akins....and of course a personal congrats to my alma mater (or whatever the word is for High Schools); Georgetown for winning Guard caption. Awesome..... Quote

Salesmonkey Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Quote Wow, looks like Leander really sucked it up in the finals Actually our finals performance was about 50 times better than prelims. We did suck it up in prelims but finals was one of the best shows we have had, topping the show that we won the USBAA competition in Hendrickson with. Perhaps the drop in rank was due to the fact that Leander requested to go first in finals because it was the night of our homecoming dance? I havent seen the judges sheets so i dont know for sure what the reason is for the low score. Quote Leander and Cedar Park are rivals. Cedar Park's rivals? Psh....Don't brand yourself with a title until you've earned it I always say . We did not "brand ourself" anything. Cedar Park and Leander are rivals in everything you can possibly imagine, including band, ever since Cedar Park High School first opened its doors. There is nothing to have to earn. Keep your mouth shut unless you know what your talking about I always say. Quote

Awesome..... Okay, here..we have good conduct towards all bands.. Have you ever thought that perhaps, other bands moved it up a notch?? Look at Round Rock, if you see anyone who saw our performance during prelims?? we did terrible... My lord we did BADD. I was so shocked that we still won the drum captain. But we stepped it up..and pulled off second. I didn't get to hear Leander that much though..oor at all. I heard Vista.. I was impressed, but it sounded good. Quote
Salesmonkey Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Quote Have you ever thought that perhaps, other bands moved it up a notch?? Yes, in fact i would be surprised if they didn't. However, I still believe that by us going first it hurt our score and I can assure I'm not the only one in the band that believes that. Congrats to all the bands that beat us. Didn't get to see many of them but I'm sure you guys did well. We'll be seeing some of you at Westlake and more at UIL. Good luck to all. Quote

actualgirltrombone Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Congrats to Akins! I've heard a lot of good things about yall's show. Seguin.... I heard your pit warming up.... Chains Hang Low? wowwwww.... that made me laugh a lot. Thanks sooo much to all the bands who were cheering for us! It was really nice to go on the field and hear support for CP. I'd love to hear what yall thought of our show! Oh, whoever went on last at finals, I heard that band warming up, and yall sounded realllly good. Edit: Westwood went on last at finals. Thanks to everyone who went. I hope the organization of the contest wasn't too bad... I don't know if we realized Leander's homecoming was that night until like... that day. Quote

travis_malone Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Yea. We (leander) did get shafted. Performing first had lots to do with our placement. Plus, there was no percussion judge for finals apparently... where did those points go? Because it really doesnt make sense how we played pretty bad during prelims and got third, but played about 50 times more amazing than that during finals and got 6th. Someone explain this to me. All in all my night last night was ruined. Lol. But congrats to everyone. Quote

Someone explain this to me. But I remember at westlake last year we were 3rd or 2nd to perform and we were worried about that issue. Yet we stilled pulled 2nd at prelims.. Plus they were the same judges..so I highly doubt the placement was the issue. I am just thinking everyone played better during finals.. Quote
bored2damax Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Hey i didnt know that our pit played chang hang low. I know another pit played the chang hang low. I think it was georgetown. It somebody who has the maroon uniforms. It was really cool. Also congrats to akins. Show was really cool and by far the band that really had their show down. Yall owned the field last night. Quote
travis_malone Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 well no wonder everyone played better during finals. so did we. the band souded a million times better than we did during prelims. yet we still placed low. i think the only correct placings were akins and lampasses. all the others in between had some ****ed up judging i suppose. because something just seems fishy. By maroon you mean Round Rock. :-p Anyways, Gosh.. Must everyone blame the judges. If you honestly think it was your best performance you shouldn't care about what you got.. Just as long as you honestly feel its your performance. I personally can't say if Leander deserved 6th or not considering I didn't get to see y'alls show. I saw Vista though. It was good except some minor precision problem in the middle of the show, but their sound was good. Westwood show was the best I've seen so far. And Georgetown had a good show that I enjoyed.. But obviously the judges aren't screwed up because clearly Atkins deserved their first place trophy. Quote
travis_malone Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 oh i agree akins deserved first. and yes i can blame judges because alot of tapes i have listened to have proved that alot of them have no idea what they are saying most of the time. lol. now obviously akins deserved 1st. they ripped in every aspect of their show. however, im not so sure some of the bands that got the places they got deserved the places they got. just a thought. im done. chickora Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 well, westlake will be bette for most of us. Quote
VRHSRangerTBone Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 According to the Akins' band website, they are going to the USSBA contest at Hays next weekend and BOA San Antonio on November 3-4 (not including the UIL contests). By looking at the schedule of bands competing in the USSBA contest, they shouldn't have any problem outscoring every one of them. I'm very interested to see how they will do in San Antonio. It seems as if not even Akins knew how good they were going to be this year. I didn't see the show, but I've heard that it was absolutely awesome and that it's a great show for BOA. Does anyone think that Akins might have a legitimate shot at finals there? As for our band, I'm really looking forward to next week at Westlake! It's so much more fun when we're actually competative with some really great bands. I guess that's part of what finally having a four year school can do for you. Quote I saw Vista though. It was good except some minor precision problem in the middle of the show, but their sound was good. Yep, we've had problems trying to fix that up lately. We'll eventually get it, but you're right, it was probably the weakest part of our show. We also need some work on our visual package. Our music scores haven't ever really been too much of a problem for us in the past, but our visual scores have usually been a bit lower than our actual placement. Congratulations to everyone at the Cedar Park festival, and good luck to everyone going to Westlake next week or wherever else anyone might be competing! Quote
Danpod Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Friends.... Please keep this thread civil. That's all I have to say. Quote
G'townPIT Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Quote Seguin.... I heard your pit warming up.... Chains Hang Low? wowwwww.... that made me laugh a lot. That was Round Rock, they have the krunkest warm ups ever. As for Georgetown's performances, we were alright in pre-lims, and not very good in finals. Everyone had an awesome finals warm up, and evidently everyone was over-hyped and we just took off and had rips in the music and a sousaphone fell down... Not our best performance by far. Can't wait till Westlake. Quote
Moose Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Akins placement was right. But not much else... 1. There weren't field judges, which probably would've changed the placements quite dramatically. When I saw no field judges, I expected a contest judged like UIL, but the results were not like that. 2. Bryan was like 20 points behind the rest of the pack....uh...no... 3. Much of this show was judged it seemed on content of the shows. Seguin played and marched very well, very nice sound, but the show is boring as heck (sorry) Same can be said for Leander, except not as boring. Bands like Vista Ridge had very good shows, but did not perform them as well as some of the bands they beat, IMHO. Overall, I was very impressed by everyone. Especially Akins, Vista Ridge, and Westwood. All three came out of no where. I wasn't expecting much from Vista Ridge because of a student there who constantly talks them down on the forums, but they shocked me. Great Job! Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 haha wow georgetown actually won the guard caption? no offense Quote
