Lustra.exe Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I bought two new pairs of sticks at the beginning of the week. one practice - for rehearsals and stand jams, and one performance - for half time and competitions. By the end of the week my practice sticks were all torn up. The tone was horrible and the stick was half broken. I gock too hard so I have to retape that area about three inches down from the bead everyday. Then I look at our snare five and he hardly has a dent. Clearl,y it's because he doesn't play into the drum as hard as me but still. His sticks will last close to all season. Not fair! I dont know, but my average stick lasts about a week minimum, 2 weeks maximum. Is this a problem with anyone else? Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Normally, I can go through Innovatives in 8-10 days of actual play (usually just under two weeks on a calendar). My last pair of Rennicks, which our pd gave us on one football game, lasted me four days. I even had to bum the pd for PRO-MARKS! YUCK! The dumb part is the Hardimon's I used for crap sticks have taken a beating from several drummers for months. I love Innovatives, but why are they so weak? Quote
Lustra.exe Posted September 17, 2006 Author Posted September 17, 2006 I think it's the wood they use... maybe... Quote
thesnareguy Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 2-3 weeks. I'm probably the only snare on the line that doesn't chew up the sticks really bad. Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Got some Innovative Percussion Bret Kuhns. Man, They've gone 2 1/2 weeks and they're still going strong! Hard to think just before that the Innovatives I had crapped out in a week! Quote
gpdrumline09 Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 we use Hardimons...mine usually last about 3weeks... i mean, unless we hav a couple pep rallies... my snareline usually can handle about a month...but DEFINATELY not all season ...as a line we probably go through about 20 pair of sticks a season Quote
springbassliner26 Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Our snares use Johnsons. They each have two pair, one practice, one show, and I don't think that any of them have broken any of them in the two or three weeks they've had them. Quote
SHSfreshmanSNARE07 Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Yeah, that basist ^^ is right, but im with you bro, im buying new sticks every other week, i like to have three though. One is for show, NEVER use except for warm-up before a competition ( like on the day of) and rarely at halftimes. Then i have my hack sticks and i dont retape them, after a week their sooo gone its not even funny so i grab my extras and use them until they break but buy then i have another waiting. But you kinda need to feel for some showsticks, you know>? the sticks i was using for show are my hacks and i spent about 30 minutes looking at a new pair for area tomorrow and i think ill like them. Just remember you can never have too many sticks. Quote
percussioninstructor Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I hate to be the "brand-basher", but sounds like most of you use Vic. Dont get me wrong..Vic has a HUGE selection, and some quite innovative designs but they just dont last. Case in point: 2 years ago I bought a pair of MS1 corpsmasters, that very day..I was demonstrating a snare part and hit a shot, and bang! the thing snapped off...not splintered...snapped. Since then I've been using Silverfox. Yeah they still wear out...but even with my young..love to HACK snareline..they last a good month to six weeks or more. The Silverfox keyboard mallets are great also...never had one unwind or break from "normal" usage. And NO..this is not a commercial! Just my so-called "professional" opinion. Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Adding on to that, watch out for anything Pro-Mark. I marched indoor WGI with those, and man, they're AWFUL! Even the pairs the company sent us to sponsor them with were atrocious! Some of the gys that graduated busted Savages over the light side of PRCTICE PADS! Never put them on a drum. Quote
