Does anyone have an itinerary for area?

The area itinerary will be released after the region contests are finished as any bands receiving a second division will not participate in area prelims (99% certain not a single band here will get a 2, I promise you lol), so making a schedule now would be redundant, although the draw order is what the full schedule would look like, so you can kinda guess about when each performance will happen through there

Also, go Broncos lmao

Saw both Hebron and Marcus tonight at halftime and Wow!

Marcus Band is legend and they're bringing it this year. I thought last year's show was captivating, but this one jumps up and grabs you with its boldness. The brass and percussion are so clean and the overall sound was amazing. Some really aggressive parts musically and they're practically sprinting around the field while playing. Definitely not a march, stop, play kind of show. Can't wait to see it with the finished props. I hope Vandegrift is ready cause I think they're coming for you.

Hebron's size is always impressive and gives their formations big visual impact. There was a nice piccolo solo, and some cool brass and percussion features. I liked the full band sound, it was really nice, but it seemed like there were more small ensembles sprinkled throughout and not a lot of the powerful sound you expect from a band that size. Maybe not quite as dynamic as I was expecting. However, there's still more to come so we'll see what it looks like when it's time for UIL on 10/19.

Overall these two killed it on the field tonight. I can only imagine how much better it's going to get as they fine tune these shows in the coming weeks.

doesnt mckinney stadium have a big texas covering up hashes on their field

There is a big texas yes. But it's only on the center on both 40's and the 50. So it only covers those hashes

If I’ve done my research correctly, I count only 18 6A bands, indicating only 3 advancers to state (which is practically set in stone at present, barring a MASSIVE upset on an LISD school.) I’m a bit surprised that UIL set this area up in a way that allows for this, but I suppose that anything can happen with UIL Area!

I’m from Wylie and my band directors are saying 4 are qualifying for state not 3. It’s really a fight between us and prosper.

Goodness, such small room for error at region. 2 bands get a 2 for some reason and that’s only 3 to state, which we all know who’d they almost 100% would be

Still plenty of time for bands looking to take that last spot to grow. With the Wylies McKinneys and and Prospers being at boa this weekend, plus Rockwall and Braswell, we basically have a somewhat showing of whose looking for that last spot, with many of these programs already being in a roll. Ofc it’s boa, but it’s definitely still something as we look to this contest

Rockwall is still in C, but will be fighting for that last C spot probably. 😂

I agree, although I dont really think it will be much of an indicator unless a generally successful BOA band does very poor or a generally successful UIL band does REALLY well, or if one of them places really really bad, the scoring is just so different that its more of a foundation to start making proper guesses

I completely agree! I’ll only be using the music and visual parts of the scores if I decide to use this in the future for predictions, but even then the bands will have had a few more weeks to clean, especially with how late area is this season, but I thinks it’s a little something

As a Wylie East member (and soloist (twice)) our entire season is structured to meet Area J head on. I can confirm we’ll be fighting tooth and nail for that 4th spot

So many people want to hand LISD schools the top 3 spots but this year seems more wide open than people realize. Good luck!

Here's how i rank these bands. You may have seen me do this in other areas, but I've finally made my round to this one.

1. Marcus

2. Hebron

3. Flower Mound

4. Prosper

5. Wylie

6. Braswell

7. Mckinney

8. Rock Hill

9. Wylie East

10. Mckinney Boyd

11. Plano East

12. Lewisville

13. Byron Nelson

14. Allen

15. Little Elm

16. V.R. Eaton

17. Guyer

18. Plano West

19. Plano

20. Princeton

21. Northwest

Not a bad list at all. Having seen many of these bands already this year…..I would probably agree Marcus of Hebron right now….but honestly, probably a best 2 of three paper, rock, scissors with a few ties in there.

I would flip 7-8, 10-11, 14-15

But would not be shocked at all to see your lisy unfold.

Here is my final list going into region/5A area, and Im fairly confident on the gaps that will dictate the bubbles:

1. Hebron
2. Marcus
-- (mini gap)--
3. Flower Mound
---(gap)---
4. Prosper
5. Wylie
--(mini gap)
6. McKinney High
7. McKinney Boyd
8. Wylie East
---(gap)---
9. Braswell
10. Little Elm
11. Rock Hill
12. Plano East

I think the gaps will hold up, with variation in the gaps being completely up to the judges, and I don't see much movement between gaps happening besides either Braswell moving up or McKinney High moving up.
I don't really see Boyd placing below 8th here, even with their less-than-stellar Prosper score compared to 2023, they did not have their closer on the field which certainly docked them points in performance captions when (to my knowledge) every other band had a completed show, as well as the sheets being fundamentally different in regards to prioritizing pure cleanliness and clarity, as opposed to General Effect which is more of the full package of music and visual performance, but again we will have to see how the contest turns out.
Placements besides Hebron 1st are just their to dictate gaps, not what I think will personally happen, and I think Hebron will win due to musical difficulty and achievement, if we were to put more judges on visuals, Id say Marcus wins this pretty-handedly.
