Here’s my predictions for how I think this contest will play out. However with this area, anything can happen.

1. Wakeland - They have been one of the best competitors in 5A Alone, getting bronze at state last year, and barely behind marcus at prosper. Always clean, always shining musically. If they didn’t get first Id be shocked

2. Lonestar - They are undoubtedly having their best year yet and their show design this year is incredible. I love their props and their music selection. Their ballad is just beautiful and they do all of their drill and choreography at a very high level. They could definitely get top 5 at state. Only reason they are behind Wakeland is cause of past competitions, and generally Wakeland is unbeatable in cleanliness. But I would argue that their content is more demanding.

3. Lebanon Trail - Very interesting theme. Love all the choreography and effects throughout. The reason I place them here is they have a very strong history of cleaning exceptionally well before area, and because they made state finals last year. They are definitely interchangeable with the 4th spot though.

4. Argyle - This program has constantly been adapting better and better each year in 5A, with this definitely being the strongest show they have ever put out. They are able to compete well even for their small size, and have a great sound. But the reason I have them here is because they definitely are out for blood after falling out of 4th last year. Other than that, their show has a really cool theme, and they seem to have great content and design within their show. This again could potentially make a run for 3rd as well.

5. McKinney North - They execute what they have at a very high level. They sound amazing and always have entertaining shows. However I am going to jump on the band wagon that this year seems very repetitive of past years. And with so many bands having their best years yet, I think they will land here.

6. Reedy - I really do not have much to go off of here. They have proven to be a very good program so far however, and from results of past competitions this year, they could potentially be a dark horse. But I have yet to see a video and therefore this placement is a little iffy.

7. The Colony - This program is no exception to the success that LISD is associated with. Their show theme looks really cool! I’m iffy with this placement as well because they could probably get higher. But I think again this is where they will land up.

8. Walnut Grove - For only having their first year ever last year, they are doing really well. They could definitely become a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

9. Emerson - Once again, another amazing frisco school. They are still pretty new to the scene and like WG, could become a powerhouse in this area. I think they really just need more time however.

10. Heritage - Again like reedy, this is based of what i’ve heard. They seem to be doing well this year in their competitions and are definitely working to become notable in this area. However I do think that there are several other schools that could take this spot.

Completely agree with this list. Lots of these programs are definitely having their best years, I'm exited to see how the fight for 3rd/4th place between LT, Argyle, McKinney and Reedy will play out. I do feel like LT's combination of good show potential and a history of hyper-cleaning for area puts them neck and neck with Argyle (who are having their best season yet, in my opinion) and makes them both likely contenders for state.

However, it seems Reedy is getting tons of new praise for their show this year, justifiably from their performance at Wylie that I watched. I've also heard good things about Walnut Grove, though I haven't seen their show yet. Do y'all think there's any chance Reedy or Walnut Grove beat out some of the other competitors for state like Argyle and LT?

It's 100% possible we see some new faces at state, especially considering the amount of success multiple programs are having this season, it will all just come down to Saturday night, but also the groups that have recently been making it haven't been getting any worse, quiet the opposite if anything, but I'd love to see some new faces make it and surprise us!

Yeah no this area is just ruthless, there’s so many good state contenders and for there only to be four spots is just tragic.

With that being said though, I really think LT and Argyle will win out here for 3rd/4th just because of their history. Thats definitely a disadvantage for Walnuts Grove, they’ve only been here a year. With Reedy (this is very hypothetical as I haven’t seen them at all), I think it’s just a little unrealistic for them to beat out some of the top contenders like these after not even making finals last year. But maybe they’ve really kicked it up a notch I don’t know. But it’s not impossible, Argyle went from being 8th in prelims to being a solid contender for state in a year.

Some predictions based off of past competition results and band programs’ recent history.

*1. Wakeland (0.05 behind Marcus at Prosper

*2. Lonestar (11th place at Prosper)

————

*3. Lebanon Trail (Although reedy beat them out at Wylie, every year they pick up their slack a lot before area and rise the ranks, but they could fall off following their 5th place in prelims last year)

*4. McKinney North (They’ve performed the same style of show 3 years in a row now, but as shown by past results it works for them as UIL likes it and that’s what they’re most likely going to stick with.)

5. Argyle (I’ve heard they’re having their best year yet and also seen their show and it looks pretty great, but I don’t know if it’ll be good enough to rise above LT and MKN.)

6. The Colony (Placement could really be anywhere depending on how good their run is, TC is a very hard band to rank due to their runs in videos having different stick outs in each one. But following their cleaning before area and a good run, they could give 3-5 a run for their money.)

7. Reedy (Unfortunately haven’t been able to see their show so this is just off of how I’ve heard they’re doing and past year results, I can’t see them skyrocketing up to top 4 like some people have been saying even though they placed well at their competitions, but I could always be wrong, excited to see what happens with this band at area.)

8. Emerson (Placed right above the colony at BMI but 12 points below in prelims, unless there’s some serious cleaning and fixing with their consistency, they’ll be stuck in the bottom 5 of finals.

9. Walnut Grove (They’re too new of a school to fly up the ranks that quickly, I’d love to be proved wrong, but I can’t imagine them being above some of the bands that have been at this for 5+ years at least.)

10. Independence (although they missed finals last year I believe they got screwed over by being the first performing band and having to perform in the freezing cold with rain, I think they make it back into the top 10 but don’t fly above some of the bands wit more accomplishments this year.)
