people really seem to forget how notorious LT is for cleaning up their show an insane amount at the last minute 😭 its happened every year since they opened, and although they clearly did worse than expected at wmi, people are counting them out way too easily. same with mckinney north - their show design is getting redundant at this point but its not a fluke that theyve placed so well the last two years. they get CLEAN.

1. wakeland

2. lone star

3. lt

4. argyle

5. north

6. reedy

7. emerson

8. walnut grove

9. the colony

10. independence or memorial

i know this prediction might sound too strictly based on past seasons over this year, but that’s only because people underestimate the impact that late season cleaning has on perennially high placing bands.

with that being said, i wouldnt be too surprised to see some placements get shuffled up considering how good area b 5a bands have gotten - reedy really impressed me at wmi, great work! and emerson too, i love their show design

good luck to all the bands at uil and at area next week!

What are yalls opinions of sherman? They haven’t been the best these past couple of years but they have solid history and a really good run-through at region today. I wonder how they’ll place.

I don’t see Emerson passing walnut grove this late in the season esp given the results of MMI

Going to make my predictions for area comp coming up on the 26th

1. wakeland (obvious)

2. lone star (obvious)

3. argyle(very nice, cool show and clean)

4. Reedy (Their show this year is crazy good especially music wise, if they cleaned up well visually, these are state finalist in my eyes, along with the 3 other top 4 finishers)

5. Lebanon trail ( I don’t really understand their show)

6. McKinney north ( same concept for 3 years)

7. walnut grove (interchangeable from here to 9th)

8. Emerson

9. the colony

10. Independences

Wakeland and Lone Star are locks in 1&2 but maybe some band could have a crazy good run and prove me wrong. Honestly 3-6 are interchangeable, I’ve heard LT and North do a lot of cleaning when area comes around, but maybe argyle and reedy have been doing their best to clean up their show too, especially reedy, as their new staff is established now. north has done the same concept for the past 3 years so that’s why I placed them so low, this year is probably the least enjoyable of the 3, but I’m not saying it’s bad, Its still good. I don’t really understand LTs show but it’s still a cool fun show but I don’t really understand it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Colony placing higher after winning at Donna Hanna this year. I’d say 7-9 are also interchangeable too. Very excited to see how all band perform this upcoming weekend.

I agree with these predictions but don't know what to think of Mckinney's show. It almost seems like a "cheat" compared to the "usual" marching band stuff. The little marching they have wasn't that great.

Gonna take my turn at predictions now that Area is less than a week away.

🥇Wakeland*
I have seen their show multiple times and it just get cleaner and more enjoyable every time. I don’t see any way that anyone here is beating them. Their sound is so professional and will almost definitely get them a medal at state for the 2nd year in a row.

🥈Lone Star*
Love the show design and such a powerful sound they’re putting out. Clearly a huge step up from previous years. Everything about them has improved from last year and it’s possible they can also come out with a medal at state. This is such a thriving program which never fails to impress me.

🥉Lebanon Trail*
Has a short but incredibly successful history, so I wouldn’t count them out of anything so soon. They are known to really pull it together towards the end for the last couple of weeks. Their show design has also improved quite a lot and are putting out more air than they have in the past. If they continue on their trajectory there’s potential to place even higher than last year at state.

4. Argyle*

Ever since their class up to 5A, Argyle has been improving so much every year. I think this will be the first year to advance to 5A state for them. These 3-6 placements are really hard to predict and could go any way, but they have really been sounding and looking better than ever all season. I don’t see them placing any higher than this though, those top 3 Frisco schools can seem untouchable, but anything could happen on Saturday.

5. Reedy

It’s really tough to choose a first out of state, and until this year, Reedy wasn’t really in the question for this. But after seeing how much they’ve improved, and some results of other comps this year, they’re definitely not here to mess around. However, this being Area B, it’s stupid competitive, and they would probably safely make state in any other area. Excited to see how they’ll do!

6. McKinney North

Despite them having good placements the past 2 years at Area, it’s hard for me to see them at the top of that mix again this year. Their shows are always fun and enjoyed by the crowd, but never really what the judges are looking for, which is why come state, they were kind of forgotten about last year. There being so many amazing programs in the area, it’s unfortunate I have to put them at 6th.

7. Walnut Grove

It’s crazy to think it’s only their 2nd year and they’re already competing at such a high level. They’re still young and can’t wait to see what more of this program will put out in the future once it’s fully developed.

8. Emerson

Also a fairly new school which has been having great success, but again, extremely competitive area. I would love to see all these schools make state, and so many of them deserve it, but unfortunately there’s only 4.

9. Memorial

Haven’t seen them at all this year, but they always seem to sneak in the back of finals at area. Pretty consistent program and always has some cool shows.

10. The Colony

Also have yet to see the Colony, but I want them to have a spot in finals because they have for so long, but these  other schools especially in Region 24 have seen astronomical improvement this year and it’ll be very hard for The Colony to keep up with them.

It was really hard to place some of these schools where I did, but here’s my idea of the groupings to make it a little more accurate:

1-2 (Wakeland, Lone Star) almost definitely locks

3-6 (LT, Argyle, Reedy, North) tough to pick 2 to go home, they’re all phenomenal programs

7-8 (WG, Emerson) Both new programs that will surely rise to the level of the others ahead of them in a few years

9-10 (Memorial, The Colony) Great programs but I just don’t know much about them, and they’re going to have a hard time competing with this powerhouse of an area.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Very good rankings. 3-6 are very interchangeable. Huge fan of reedy this year so I’m a little biased towards them making state.

Getting less than a week until area I decided to post an updated prediction list.

1. Wakeland

2. Lone Star

3. LT (people say reedy will do a lot better than them but in my opinion that comp was all back in October 5th and a lot of Changed since then between LT and Reedy).

4. Argyle/The Colony/MCN

5.Argyle/The Colony/ MCN

6.Argyle/The Colony/MCN

My reasoning for these placements are that argyle has had a really good season/ show this year and visually are very clean. I’ve seen a LOT of people have the Colony very low on the finalist list which doesn’t really make that much sense to me considering the fact over the past 2 years they’ve consistently placed 5 and 6 at this area, and I’m a strong believer they will stay at this range this year again. With MCN I could see them a little lower this year just because looking at their show it’s kinda been a repetition of what we’ve seen a lot in the past, and it’s a lot of moving and playing while forgetting the marching aspect.

7. Reedy (I could see them getting maybe 6th or 5th, but not as high as I’ve seen some people put on their list, they have had a really good season this year though so I could see them higher than they are)

8. Walnut grove (Just like reedy I could also see them being higher on this list just because of how good they’ve done this season, but I’m using a lot of my basis for ranking off of what I’ve seen in the past with average placements, and with this being a newer school it’s hard to base where they’ll land)

9. Emerson (Emerson has also had a pretty good year this year compared to others but going off of score differences I’ve seen between the people Emerson has gone against, I don’t really think they’ll pass any of the other bands seen above them, though I could be wrong and with the week going up to area they could surprise me)

10.Independence (after missing out on finals last year due to I think sound issues I 100% see them coming back into finals again this year)

Again this is just my thoughts and opinions, I could be completely wrong from what other people think

I think the biggest reason for TC being placed lower is simply certain bands that they've beaten these past couple of years are having their best seasons yet. I do think they'll make finals, but they definitely have much more of a battle this year of being in the top half than recent years, but I think the 6th-9th range is realistic for them, unless ofc some major changes/improvements have happened. Ofc anything is possible, this is just arguably the most completive this area has ever been

If we’re keeping in mind that the comp happened in October 5th, and reedy placed higher then them at that comp, then I think reedy should be higher, McKinney north lower. At region yesterday McKinney felt boring. Not really marching. Music felt kind of sluggish. I wasn’t able to catch lt and the colony though.

Yeah I definitely do agree with the way you put it, this comp definitely is way more competitive than years in the past and really it comes down to how they perform at area. In past years we’ve kinda known who would be 1-4 with maybe the chance of others doing better, but this year that 3rd and 4th spot could literally go to anyone

As I also put in my post, I used past area results for a lot of my placements, and in the past Mcn has placed higher than Reedy, reedy still could do better than them, just using a lot of past area results for this.

I think this is where many people misunderstand the UIL sheet. It doesn't specify "individual marching" and "ensemble marching"—it says "individual movement" and "ensemble movement" which is something North does a lot of. It may not be the same as what other bands in the area do, but their approach is different, and it's proven to be effective in the past. But what I think is more important is that there is a shift from focusing on "marching" to "movement," shows that UIL is becoming increasingly similar to BOA and their approach.

i think reedy needs to clean up slightly visually and they could very well get 3rd. I think musically they are almost on par with Lone star. but that might just be personal preference.

I second this. Reedy looked like they cleaned up a good amount at region since Wylie visually and looked good. They still have another week to get ready too.
