bassclarinetplayer Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 I know some people from some of the 5A schools that are going to Area, and I want to wish all of the bands good luck, and I know you guys will do great! BassoonSOLO5456 1 Quote

I do think they'll make finals, but they definitely have much more of a battle this year of being in the top half than recent years, but I think the 6th-9th range is realistic for them, unless ofc some major changes/improvements have happened. Ofc anything is possible, this is just arguably the most completive this area has ever been member of TC here, competition will be very stiff and scores will all be close imo. Correct me if I’m wrong (and I would appreciate if someone helps me clarify this) but are bands music scores relative to their size? Us and Argyle are definitely some of the smallest programs that make finals at Area B and I have always wondered if judges score bigger bands with bigger sounds but smaller visuals. As a smaller school, we definitely get to shine in our visual category but music can be a struggle due to all of our sections being smaller than the other finalists. Nonetheless, we’re ready to bring the heat! Tubalord11 1 Quote
jamminsalmon_ Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 Also another question, does anyone know what type of judging system will be used at this competition? In 2022, the scores released reflected specific numbers and placements with regards to music individual/ensemble, visual individual/ensemble, etc… but last year the only numbers released were judge placements on a scale of 1 — 10. Just wondering because many of the judges and scores that people use to compare bands are subjective to the competition with factors such as score inflation and what not. Quote
Band_lover17 Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 The judging is based on 5 main rankings: rarely, sometimes, usually, consistent, and always. Bands who perform more consistently are more likely to advance to the top. BassoonSOLO5456 1 Quote

Yeah that’s a great question, at this point it’s a mystery to all lol it was always just the 3 music 2 marching with the raw score out of a 1000 and then the placement ranking till 22, which they had the huge sheet with the breakdown of each category, and then last year was just the rankings from each judge. If I had to guess, I’d be that, but at this point we’re gonna have to wait till the are released For your first question, no, I don’t believe so. The judges are looking for a consistent sound/tone from each member, clear articulation, dynamics, variety in rhythms, but really just clean sounds. The issue for smaller bands is one, producing as much sound, but it’s also much easier to hear mistakes bc with big bands, it can get covered up more easily since they have bigger members. But the judges Should be judging each band equally. Hope ya’ll have some great performances this weekend, gl at area!!! BassoonSOLO5456 1 Quote
Popular Post Saxking Posted October 21, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2024 Yea, I heard reedy was doing really well this year. Saw them at Wylie and their individual marching was ok but wow was the music amazing. I saw them again at the region, and I think they cleaned up well and could possibly be 3rd and make school history this year. Somewhat musically on par with Lone Star if I do say so myself. They still go a week to work their way up some more. Dave609, Tubalord11, Drumlineking and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Emerson is good but not 4/5th good. Reedy should be up higher too. Just feedback❤️ BassoonSOLO5456 1 Quote

Popular Post tubaplayer12 Posted October 22, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 22, 2024 Been rummaging through youtube finding clips of these bands, and boy is this gonna be a competition on Saturday. Here’s me just spit balling- 1. Wakeland: Obviously an amazing program, I'm pretty confident they will finish first here. 2. Lone Star: Again, amazing program, almost a guaranteed 2nd here. I LOVE everything about their show, and the music and overall design is genuinely beautiful. This is where it gets more difficult to predict. So many great shows out here. 3. Lebanon Trail: Nice show, and obviously a program that is known for like ultra cleaning for area. I think they should do well here, have them a 3rd, but I could see anywhere from 3rd to 5th-ish 4. Argyle: I've only watched this show from the video from Melissa (which was what, three weeks ago?) so I don't really know. However, that video sounded great to me and trying gauge improvement, I could see them ending up somewhere around here. 5. Walnut Grove: They've had some exponential growth from last year. There isn't a single good video I could find on Youtube, but I was in the stands for their performance at BOA Prosper, and it was awesome! They have a lot of sound for their size. Again, have them at 5th here but could see something from the 5th to 8th range. 6. McKinney North: Don't get me wrong, McKinney North has a great show, but it just feels more bland to me than their show last year did. Cool jazzy show, but it definitely doesn't feel like a UIL centered show to me. Still great, but that's just my personal opinion. 7. Reedy: Please don't come at me! I haven't really seen their show. Looking at the other predictions though, they seem to be doing awesome this year! This could definitely be way higher, but this is just what I have them at for now. 8. Emerson: This program is growing fast too! Super fun show, I personally really like the trumpet feature (I may or may not be a trumpet player). 9. The Colony: They've done better in past years, but with so many band having some of their best years, I unfortunately see them on the lower side this year. 10. Independence / Memorial / Lovejoy / Anna: This spot to me is one of the most competitive ones. I put these fours bands as contenders to who l see getting the spot in order of likelihood (Independence greatest, Anna least). To be honest, it could go to really anyone. bassclarinetplayer, Tubalord11, Saxking and 6 others 9 Quote
