UIL 4A Area C 2024

Before you say it is inconsistent you actually need to look at the judges scoring sheets. It's quite possible that all these schools are really really close in scoring to each other and just one simple thing could propel a school to the front or the back. I don't think you are seeing huge gaps between several states advancing schools like you have in the past. Also, don't forget no run for a band is the same as it was before. Time and Temperature can decide how a run goes. Are you playing early in the morning or are you playing in the direct heat facing the sun.

Now if you get the judges scoring sheets and you see that Music Judges gave a 1,8,2 and a the Visual judges went 1, 9 then you could make an argument for that which is why the UIL has a provision in the rules in case a judge decides to go rogue in scoring.

Oh no I've seen judging like that this year. I know a cooler time in the day will greatly benefit a band. I marched as well...

Based on what I’ve seen, I think most would agree that Canton, Sulphur, Celina, Farmersville, and North Lamar are likely to secure the top five spots. The competition for 6th and 7th places will probably be among bands like Lumberton, Pine Tree, Community, Van Alstyne, Wills Point, Sunnyvale, Bridge City, and Paris. The strongest contenders for those spots seem to be Lumberton, Pine Tree, Van Alstyne, and Paris, although personally, I’m not convinced about Pine Tree and Van Alstyne, but that might just be my perspective.

since it's a week off, I think shows are pretty set on general placements, so here are my predictions.

1. Sulphur Springs - They beat out Celina at princeton, and their show is better suited to place better based on the updated score cards as compared to Celina. I also think overall, SS has shown more consistent and largers growth from week to week as compared to Celina.

2. Farmersville - They may not be as clean as Celina, but I believe their show is more technical than Celina's which may give them the edge. They also beat alvarado twice in the same competition if I remember correctly which beat Celina and Canton. North Lamar seemed to be close to Farmersville at royse city, but I really just think Farmersville had a bad run since later that day at Celina, they beat out North Lamar in Prelims and Finals and was pretty close to winning the competition.

3. Celina - Very clean show and performed fantastically. I just think SS and Farmersville have more technical shows which will place better with the judges presuming the judges actually judge properly without biased to any band. I know they are a great band and won 2 championships back to back, but I really don't think that type of show will keep winning as we see 4a is starting to transition into more complex and intricate shows like 5a and 6a.

4. I think Canton will take forth just because they did compete very strongly in area b for many years and they did make state very consistently. I have seen them taper off and they got beat out by every other band I placed ahead of them even if it wasn't directly.

5. I think North Lamar will strongly compete with Canton for the 4th and 5th spot since they are both extremely great bands, unless I see a tremendous growth though; I don't feel comfortable placing them top 3 since those bands are just powerhouses this year, and we've seen those bands consistently above the rest this season.

6. Lumberton - I really don't have a definite band to take the last 2 state spots since the remaining bands are just so close. I will give it to lumberton though since while some other bands may be a bit cleaner, I think after this point in placements size will start meaning a little more to the judges.

7. Van Alstyne or Paris - I really can't give it to either band. Both bands are great and both deserve the spot, but they are just really close from what I've seen. Of course community is still in play along with Pine Tree, but I don't think they are as clean as the other two in many aspects of their show.

Ok. Now let’s do predictions based on the high probability that it will be in the indoor facility. Who gets the edge with that little change?
btw. All of your predictions are ridiculous. This area is too large. For any of these bands to see each other before area would mean drive 5 to 7 hours to the other bands contests. No way to compare so no way to accurately predict. Just enjoy the shows (that is if we even get to get inside to watch in the indoor facility with a sideline that is no bigger than 5 feet. I guess the end zone is an option. 🤔)

I'd rather have the alternate weather day like most other areas do instead of performing in the indoor bubble. Lindale loses out on money from concessions & things too.

Can the judges even get up high in the indoor facility to see formations?

Have you looked at the new scoring sheets? You think judges would be choosing finalists based on size?  The new score sheets & judges guide aim to bring focus back to music & marching (and doing both at the same time).

HUGE ON THE DOING IT AT THE SAME TIME. I hate to be the person who says this but a lot of these shows have no hard music while marching. Most don’t truly challenge the marchers on field.

Also why shows like Canton and PT are overlooked because the shows are hard and they can barely execute them well. If they were able to pull the shows off there’s no chance any of these bands could come up to them.

A slightly revised schedule has been posted. Not as different as I was told it was going to be. Looks like they moved the break earlier but that really only ends up helping three bands. Hopefully it will keep the Celina and PG kids from 5am call times after away games the night before

The change looks shady if you ask me. Lunch break after only a few bands? Should be giving the judges a longer break later. Like the original schedule. Wonder what made them think the change was necessary.

Not shady. Originally they were anticipating likely rain delays in the morning. Although now it looks more like rain all day, unfortunately.

I think the weather combined with the 2+ hour distances some band have to travel that the day is going to end up a mess all the way around unless the weather takes a significant turn. I think anything they can do to make it possible for bands to perform safely and on equal standing will be appreciated by all. Some bands are naturally going to be at a disadvantage based on what the weather is doing and performance times.
