Rain location is the indoor facility at Lindale. There likely will not be any spectators.

Is it live streamed somewhere if it’s moved indoors?

I think they meant "a week away".

I originally thought that, but then wasn't sure if some of the schools might be on Fall Break.

will they even be able to have the judges high enough up?

I just looked up their indoor facility and the pictures I found do not show a balcony viewing area like other schools have.

I’ve seen it done in the past with judges on the field with the students. It was a mess. A few bands advanced that year who should not have advanced. I believe it was 3a Area C maybe 2015?

Schools without indoor facilities are at a huge disadvantage in preparing for this contest.

With how the weather is turning out to be on Saturday, means the entire contest may be moved indoors and will be 1 round only, which could mean the results be wonky. Some bands may be greatly disadvantaged due to lack of performing in a space like the Alamodome (A lot of indoor facilities have the same structure design as something like Lucas Oil or the Alamodome, so the sound on how it travels and bounces around may be equal which could throw some bands off track) while others may have a better chance performing inside (Looking at you North Lamar, Paris, Canton, Celina, Lumberton, etc.) it's going to be interesting for sure regardless what happens weather wise.

I don't think this will really be similar to the Alamodome. There aren't seats and people and things that naturally absorb some sound. The bounce back is going to be a mess. When the bigger bands are spread across the field, they will have challenges from echos & reverb. Having a large percussion section could worsen this. Smaller bands might actually sound bigger or fuller (think singing in the shower). JMO...

Check the low ceiling in those pics...

Would they make bands march with a little rain? Woodwind would be risking their instruments...we'll see what they decide but uil always seems to choose the worst way to do things

According to the last part of UIL's statement, they could.

"Unless conditions are determined by contest officials to be unsafe, the contest will continue as scheduled, which includes the possibility of performing in the rain."

I know last year at Class 3A Area 3B they marched in rain. As long as it's not a downpour and lightening they will march.

Yup, if only 1 Round you could see some wild and crazy results. It is what is, there hasn't been any rain for almost 2 months and now all of a sudden weatherman are talking numerous days of rain.

what schools do we think have disadvanteges for being inside and what are predictions if they are all inside?

I feel like those schools that have gone to state will have a more favorable chance

Schools using lots of electronics will be at a disadvantage if they have to perform in the rain. Schools with the ability to practice this week indoors will be at an advantage.

Uil will do everything in it's power to not host area inside an indoor facility. It would be super unfair to those bands that don't have the luxury of an indoor facility. It may also cut bands that otherwise would have made it.

As far as I've heard, the prelims will be the only round unless the weather changes. so best of luck to all! as a student from Krum, I'm actually hoping WP makes the cut this year after seeing their show in person.

The weather is looking slightly better. Still probably going to be a wet one here and there  but the chance of severe weather has diminished.
