Just because a band didn't do as well as you wanted doesn't mean you get to come on here and spread baseless and silly misinformation.  Area notoriously produces crazy results every year.  It's no surprise.  Keeping an eye on this topic.......

Thank you for your service 🫡

might want to check out the state thread and the area b thread. It’s getting wild over there.

I'm not sure why the website is making me quote you but I can't get it off so I apologize. Anyway I've been talking a lot on the state forum about judges and how they did a bad job in this area and area b. I still think that. However, if we really had a judge panel that would take bribes Canton would have made state no questions asked. That's because they're known to make state so a bad judge panel wouldn't bat an eye and send canton. I made it look like I hated the judging but yes it was okay. Maybe 3-5 mistakes which isn't too bad. But to go on hear and accuse these men of taking bribes for a band contest is just dumb and unnecessary.

No worries, I didn't say anything about bribes. I believe at the state level contests, there is a system in place where UIL actually monitors the judges who are scoring the contests as it is going on in case someone decides to go rogue. No judging contest is going to be 100% accurate which I believe the 4A State Contest is actually going to use the "7 Judging System" this year as a pilot. Yes, there were some scores in the 4A Area C that had you scratching your head but in the end I think it all worked out like it should. I realize everyone wants their school to win but in the end I don't think anybody is getting screwed or cheated. The judges at the end of the day are being evaluated too by UIL and if you have someone that does a terrible job then they don't get asked back again.

Definitely, in this area I agree with the bands that advanced. The order doesn't really matter because everything resets and the bands have one week to give it their all and try to reach finals. I believe this area will definitely do some damage at state as well.

Of course not to mention at State there are two completely different sets of judges. One group judges the prelims then gets sent home and a new fresh group of judges comes in and does the finals without seeing the teams during prelims.

This will be the second year of the 7-judge system for 4A State.

I am extremely proud of the bands that have advanced. I vas pleased vith the rankings (though I vas expecting Canton to make it in the top 7) I did kind of think Farmersville should have ranked higher. Is it actually true that a judge vas being very strict about their music? Either vay I am very excited to see how these bands do at state!

Farmersville got 10-3-9 in music so it seems like the 3 was outlier not the other way around. They scored high in visual.

Their marching was definitely up there and really helped them out. Even though their music was 10-3-9, they were indeed very strict. Looking back at the videos I have found of the bands, I personally think in music the best was Celina woth Sulphur being close second, then I would put either Bridge City and Farmersville third for music placing lumberton 5th and then north lamar. I know Farmersville lacked dynamic contrast in their music compared to some other bands. Yes I do have bias towards Farmersville, but looking back at tape, their music was much cleaner than some other bands that were placed higher. That's just my opinion though. 🤷

I agree. I'm not exactly sure why Farmersville placed so low in music. They definitely were better musically than north lamar without a doubt. Maybe even Sulphur. Everyone can argue with me about that and say all judges put them higher I understand that. However, I STRONGLY disagree with those placements and will die on the hill that Farmersville was better than North Lamar. Before y'all acuse me of being a Farmersville kid I am not. I didn't even compete. Also, I noticed people were talking about North Lamar being another band that had multiple tounging and I myself missed that part. I had no idea they played something like that. On the other Farmersville's multiple tongiung was super crisp and pretty fast. Absolutely no way on God's green earth that north lamar was better musically.

Why do you refer in 3rd person?

I haven't watched videos yet, but were there any issues at all for them with standouts? (You know, that brass player or section that stands out at parts and is not in balance or in tune with the rest of the band...)

That was an area the judges were very strict on. There were visual judges commenting on specific marchers and even mentioning if that marcher had multiple issues. With the level of competition, some were really strict on everything. I guess that's good info to have before State, but as fans in the stands or watching videos I know I am not usually analyzing marching at a specific marcher's level of performance.

Dynamics are a very big score thing, so that alone could have cost them. If that was the main critique, fortunately that is fixable before state if they have enough focused & committed students listening to their directors. I don't think it could have been too bad for them to still place as high as they did. The bigger challenge may be if they lack experience playing in a dome setting? The Alamodome dome is a strange cave....

Looking forward to Farmersville & the other new names at State this year! Nine bands from last year will not be there.

No their balance was pretty spot on and their sound was very full. They played a lot of different things pretty good. Their articulation could have been better alongside their dynamics. However, those are my only complaints. They definitely deserved better.

It might have been smaller things then. Notes not getting held out long enough, not enough crescendo, or other things that judges looking at the sheet music would see but we fans wouldn't know was a problem. They were only 2 points behind North Lamar.

Of course we are happy, it's been ages since Farmersville made state and even then, that was for 3a. It's not just us though, VanAlstyne was dropped an absurd amount. That alone should tell you the inconsistency of the judges. I'm so happy we made it to state and get to show everyone what a small town like us is capable of doing and that we can compete against bands like Panther creek and Celina. But being a student who marches like many others on here, it sucks more seeing other bands discredited or misjudged. Either way, it's even harder when so many people unanimously agree and it appears so obvious, yet we don't know and can't have the piece of mind that judges were biased towards a band they like since that's all we see as spectators both students and parents. I can say for a fact we are happy we made it, but it's not just us, other bands were unfairly judged and it's hard to say it didn't happen when it's right there. I don't mean to be a Debby downer or hateful to other bands. I'm happy they get their chance to go to state and we'll be right there facing off against them with a smile on our face hoping to see them again next year.

Dude, deserved better than what? “You” are advancing. It’s a new contest next week.

I didn't compete in this contest. I have no reason to be praising Farmersville so much.

He's not.  I watched the north lamar video and was scratching my head on why they did so good. Van Alstyne was much better in my opinion. They had a much better sound and fundamentals. I don't think the power bands like canton and north lamar should have done as well as they did. Not this year.
