Area E has changed a lot since the 2020-2022 realignment. Weren't there about 18 bands that went to this area? Now there are going to be over 40 bands if they all make it.  I remember 2021 where 7 bands in finals and 3 went to state. The bands in this area weren't playing around lol.

Time to bump this topic with contest on Saturday!  What are your latest predictions based on how the season goes?  How many bands ended up advancing to area?

This season has been so hard to predict that I don't even know anymore. I feel the 2 bands that will advance on so far is Friendswood HS and Barbers Hill HS. Outside of that, it's anyone's game

Just watched a couple Youtube videos and I can't argue.  Both have very solid shows!

3rd,4th,5th, and sixth places for state are going to be a tussle. I would like to know on your opinions because i have absolutely no clue.

All I can tell you is College Station and A&M Consolidated are coming to make a run at it, and both went to state last time.  This contest will have a lot more bands, but also a few more slots for State, so we'll see what happens.  Best of luck to all.  I know a couple other regions have contests today so hopefully we'll have the Saturday schedule by tomorrow morning sometime!

The number of bands advancing to State in this Area is heavily dependent on whether the three military bands who made a 1 but are not going to Area DO for sure count in the Area numbers. Right now it's looking like 27 bands to Area (so 5 to State) BUT in counting those three military bands (Crosby, Huntsville, and Nederland) it would reach that next threshold hold of 30, this sending 6 bands to State. Can anyone definitely confirm and point to that rule somewhere?

Those band's spots do count in how many open class bands advance to State.

Definitely agree! I don't think anyone is touching Friendswood or Barbers Hill. Both CStat schools were at State last year, so they'd be hard to argue against. Porter is not far removed from their last State trip, so I expect them to be back in that hunt. That leaves schools such as Kempner, LaPorte, maybe Angleton, etc perhaps battling it out for a 6th spot. Who else is looking good?

I think that Brenham might have a chance since they did well at last year's area contest and then Galena Park too maybe. I'm hearing that the judging was interesting at the Channelview contest, but GP did barely beat Angleton in prelims and then placed much higher in finals.

6 will advance.  3 military schools and one other school will not be in attendance but still qualified so their number counts towards how many advance.  There were exactly 30 qualifying schools so 12 in finals and 6 advance.

Makes me happy that 6 bands are advancing! Will be interesting to see who advances on!

I heard from a reliable source last night that six bands were advancing, but then saw the schedule above and was confused....even with the three military bands included the math still didn't work.  But mystery solved - one more (sadly) can't make it.  I feel bad for those kids.

Unfortunately I can't be there Saturday due to another band obligation, but will be there the next four after this!  Best of luck to every single competitor!
