how is no one talking about china spring beating panther creek?? this COMPLETELY changes the game for state AND state finals!!

China Spring’s music was VERY well done in finals, but i can’t speak for prelims. wasn’t even sitting on the 50 yard line and I could hear them crystal clear. sounded very clean to me.

Man.  4A topics are even spicier than 6A.  I posted this in the 4A Area C thread too.

Just because a band didn't do as well as you wanted doesn't mean you get to come on here and spread baseless and silly misinformation.  Area notoriously produces crazy results every year.  It's no surprise.  Keeping an eye on this topic.......

Question:

Need a little help understanding. Our area here had 28 schools make area so 10 go to finals and 5 (1 per every five schools) move into state.  So Area C had 24 schools make area with 12 going to finals and 7 move on to state.  I know UIL states if a school gets lower than 10th place but receives at least a 3 or better from 2 music judges and 1 visual they go to finals but no schools had that.  What am I missing. Couldn’t find any clarification looking at the UIL rules.

Area C has numerous schools that are military schools. So if a military school advances at the Regional Level then they automatically skip Area and advance straight to the State Military Marching Contest but their spot still counts at Area. I believe Area C has 36 schools qualify for Area but 12 were Military Schools and got to skip Area. However, their spot still counts in Area advancement, hence the reason Area C got to send 7 schools to State. Area C has many military schools in 4A/3A/2A where as Area B only has a few.

Area c has military bands. In reality like 39 bands for certified for area. However, military bands can decide to go straight to state and not compete in the open class. They can decide to compete in the open class but they usually don't do really good so they choose to go straight to state yet their certification allows more bands to qualify for state.

Interesting. Confusing but interesting. Is there a list of military schools anywhere ?
I found the list of 4A military schools. So wow. There were 16 military bands for 4A and all of them came from regions in Area C. Now I understand it all.

Before they split off the military bands Area C was always dominated by the military bands in 3A particularly. Some really good corp band in the early 2000s could not get out of area because it’s hard to compete against the precision of a military band. Giving them their own state contest was the best solution. When people don’t understand the system, it looks like area c sends an inflated number of bands. The military bands could compete in area, they just elect to do their own thing.

Right, since they split the military bands I don't recall any of them wanting to compete in Area because most of the time regardless of good they perform they would never earn enough points to beat a decent open show band. Show bands are judged on a different scale and have more opportunities to earn points.

Liam can you give you analysis and honest opinion about Venus I’m not really concerned about how we placed more about how we did as a band and all of that stuff also side note I think we would of placed a lil higher than what we did but I do know there were a lot of other bands that’s had the razzle dazzle we didn’t lol if that makes sense

thank you

I saw y’all’s show at the game on Friday AND on the 4th floor in Denton. Imo, y’all had a better run at the game, however, Saddle Up was a fun show to watch and I can’t wait to see what y’all come up with next season!
