aaron067
The announcement of 2nd and 3rd was not correct. Just fyi. The performance order is. So Hebron, Wylie, Waxahachie.

jwulf
Lake Travis allegedly made a special request to perform first so they are able to get back to Austin ASAP
Liam Allen
Due to a Braum’s trip, I missed being in the stands for Lake Travis. Heard some really good stuff from the tunnel though.

Liam Allen
Canyon - good luck LKendrick! Check tuning ensemble at the beginning. Flat and some good technique. Opening hit needs some clarity which means more from the trumpets. Good woodwind fracture. Good balance in the full ensemble moment there, but attacks in the stabs is ragged. More clarity necessary from the brass double tonguing. I sense some Velvet Knights influence in the Prokofiev section and I couldn’t be happier. As brass moves across the field they need to maintain lines. Great sonority to end that section; very impressive. Some tuning issues from the small ensemble in Dancer; sounds like trumpet. More mellophone on the theme here. Address balance in the ballad hit. More confidence from the woodwinds after the ballad; it needs to lead to the brass entrance. Balance is a little lost before the Lost it to Trying reprise and then it’s back in force for the hit. I like the lights. Great balance in the sfz. Percussion throughout sounds tight. Liam Allen
Lamar - James Spader Ultron voiceover???????? Good flugelhorn solo. Whole lot of synth bass there. I see shotgun mics on the sidelines. LED Zeppelin. Some suspicious woodwind interval tuning. Mellos playing some notes in the ballad! Trombones bringing the STANK tonight! Great performance! Yes, finals performance order at DMI is reverse order of prelims. The correct placements were communicated to some directors through the contest host. It's unfortunate for the students in the Wylie, Waxahachie, Carroll, and Keller bands, but I'm sure they'll ALL go out and perform their very best tonight regardless of any issues with announcements in prelims. averagemello and mangofroo 1
Liam Allen
Weatherford - if I’m not insane, this the exact arrangement that Vandegrift did in 2019. They’re kind of executing. It’s awesome to hear this book live. Great performance! Dottie_Minerva

Liam Allen
Lake Ridge - that’s a great trumpet fanfare right there. Mellophones are sharp. BEEFY low brass. Impressive. Trumpet tonguing is getting a little bogged down in the 7/8 time. Great visual moment there! Good use of bassoon. Great player there. Good trumpet shaping. Woodwinds could be clearer. There’s a trumpet trying to be a hero on first part. Nice closer and a great performance tonight! vandi and Wannabebluecoat

Liam Allen
Plano East - cool guard vibe here at the beginning. Great Triumph of Time hit. Great use of the prop for woodwind feature. Some saxophone intonation there. Double tonguing is rough in the full ensemble but the three soloists have it cold. Good euph solo. There’s the woodwind sound you want. Nice add 9 at the end of the ballad. Way to bring back Triumph! Great performance tonight! PSHSMom
Liam Allen
James Martin - that’s some great visual design right there. Happy Together is an interesting choice for a depressing intro. I already hear the Joyride references lol. Brass has got some power but could use a little more clarity. Holy brass! Wow wow wow! Such a rich sound from the brass quartet. Good sound from woodwinds as well. I think the next step is to get that last release as resonant as possible from the big hit. There’s Joyride. Great training on the 4/3 rhythms. Some octave tuning errors in the woodwinds. And then they redeem themselves with some really great chromatic falls. Impressive stuff in the closer, and I wish I could get some more volume out of it. Great performance tonight! TrumpetRuler11

The Sabre line in the ballad had great consistency with their tosses and catches imo, very nice to see proficiency with different equipment. omg now I know why I liked the woodwind feature so much cuz it’s triumph of time! hard piece to play well.
