I was just about to start an entirely new thread about this!  TXBands is running so slow for me lately, and some times it won’t load at all. On Saturday I figured it was just because of Area happening all day and lots of people trying to post, but it’s all the time now. Any one else?

it slow when loading up a page to predictions or to  forums.

6A Area D seems to be having issues. I entered predictions then it had drop downs for a second set of predictions. I submitted but it says "No Predictions Entered"

I made a couple changes so hopefully the forums load fast going forward (it was our anti-spam logic that was slowing it down, so we'll re-evaluate if we see an uptick in spam posts)

Predictions loading speed is another issue. There's a lot happening behind the scenes when the page loads to pull all the information in, so I'll need to refactor how that works, but I don't want to touch anything until after the season is over so please be patient with it for now!

How do the points shown in aggregate predictions work?  100+ predictions were submitted and 1st place has 700-800 points.

This year we have introduced a weighted system on how predictions and guessing them correctly works. The more predictions for a contest, the more the points you initially receive is then multipled by a certain amount. Flip that with a contest few predict, then those initial points are multiplied so little.

Gladly -- for this season (all 2024 events), currently the average number of prediction lists is 76.56 lists per event. This will obviously change over time, so the multipliers are recalculated every hour behind the scenes.

In the screenshot below (accurate as of the time of this post) you can see 4A state has 124 submitted lists, so we take 124/76.56 to come up with the multiplier of 1.6. If you earned 10 points for correctly predicting placements, your new weighted score will be 10 * 1.6 = 16.

The idea here is that when we previously had every event equal-weighted it penalized players who might not be familiar with some of the smaller contests, as those smaller contests aren't necessarily equally represented by region on the site since we rely on users to add contests for predictions (who can then predict in their own submissions).

Also, I spent some time reworking the backend of the predictions game today. I believe any speed-related issues should be resolved but please add on here if you find that's not the case.

As we close the marching season with Grand Nationals tonight (Yes I know some parts of the US are still going, but not TX) that also mean our Predictions Game is also coming to a close for the year! We hope everyone had a fun and exhilarating time with the game!

With that being said, there are still some competitions that are needing results. If any of yall have the results for these following contests, please message me or post them in this thread. *We need the FULL placements & Captions if there were any.

I'm glad you had fun! I loved participating in the Prediction Game but has had even more fun being an admin for it. I will be doing a closing statement with the final top 10 (maybe top 15) with some neat statistics in a few days.

Hey everyone! I am here to give yall the TXBands Prediction Game Awards Ceremony! (Just a week and a half late 😂)

Without any further delay, here are final top 10 Predictors who have also received the fancy Predicting Badge for 2024!!!

Now for some little fun facts about this year's array of Predictors and Contests!!!

1. TXBands saw 1,821 people submit at least 1 prediction for this year's Prediction Game!

That is +180 from last year! 

2. This year the total amount of points the predictors got was 59,895.03 Points.

The difference between last year and this year came out to be a whopping 30,179.28 Points!! 

3. The average points per predictor was 32.89. While the average of each contest was 3.98 points. 

4. 5 Predictors who finished in the top 10 last year finished in the top 10 again this year. Celesta, J-Mike16, Tubalord11, brandonlfoskett, & Dave609. The other 5 sadly either failed to retain their top 10 position or altogether not "compete" this year.

• bxOxAxUIL - 7th to 17th
• RottenPredictions - 8th to N/A
• Mars 07 - 9th to N/A
• crunchycookie3 - 10th to 30th

5 new predictors jumped into the top 10, with those being

Despite some saying 110, 112, 109, etc. The actual number of contests were 108. +11 from last year!

We are now in the home stretch of this ceremony. 

I want to first thank @Clarinot for allowing me to help operate the Prediction Game again this year! I've said it before, but I will say it again. I love being a part of our amazing TXBands Community, and therefore, being an admin for our Prediction Game means I am able to engage with all of you in a unique and meaningful way. It's an honor to contribute to the excitement and camaraderie that make our community so special.

I want to also thank all the amazing people who decided to submit a prediction or two (or 108) in this year's game! Without people predicting, this game would just not be here. The Prediction Game is not just a game; it's an opportunity for us to engage deeply with the performances and each other. It brings a sense of anticipation and thrill that enhances our overall experience.

Finally, I do want to thank all the individuals who helped me with either finding information or gathering results. It can be rather tricky when certain programs or competitions just don't provide the information that is needed for us to use for our amazing little game.

I believe I am done here. Thank yall again for an amazing marching band season and another great year for our game! Every year it's getting tougher and tougher, so I suggest getting enough rest before the start of next marching season. It will be here sooner before you know it.
