Expand Completely agree! I’m hoping they take all to finals, bc if not, one of the 5A or 6A bands will miss out since Krum will have an exhibition performance for free. I think pretty much it’s between Martin and Eaton for the last spot. I feel like assuming all goes well the other bands will make finals here, with placement being the only real competitive factor. But it’s a great lineup, some top notch north Texas bands! LeanderMomma and TrenBS 2 Quote

Expand I feel the same way, it feels kind of crappy to leave out like, 2 bands at a competition for the sake of a traditional finals setup, having all bands perform twice for their families and spectators just feels better considering how small the competition is, either that or only take 10 bands if they are going to have a finals Quick prediction, I dont know how this competition leans being BOA or UIL, so Im absolutely wrong: 1. Marcus 2. Wakeland 3. Coppell 4. Forney 5. Timber Creek 6. Waxahachie 7. McKinney North 8. Keller Central 9. Haltom 10. Aledo 11. Azle 12. Martin 13. Eaton 14. Krum Quote

clarinetistkai05 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 still so weird seeing forney listed as 6a 😭 (im used to the almost 10 years of seeing / hearing 5a) but I hope they do good at this comp! i have no way of seeing this contest (home football game that day), but i expect great things from this season overall. 🫶 Quote

Expand my advice (I’m a recent hs graduate and now in college band): 1. try not to focus on the audience while you perform. the performance itself goes by fast, so all you can really do is clear your head and lock in. 2. do breathing exercises before you go on field. i occasionally have to tell myself to breathe before performing, so taking deep breaths will help you clear your head before performing. 3. have fun! band comps are about making memories in my opinion, and you will quickly realize that comp days are so much fun! overall, it’s okay to be nervous. i remember being nervous for my first competition, but just know it’ll all be okay. good luck, have fun, and give it your all (but not more than you have)! gregorydf01, LeanderMomma, emgrace_09 and 1 other 4 Quote

Expand I forgot some things, so I’ll attach them here: - what i did my first performance that i recommend to all freshman is imagine nobody is there and you are rehearsing (to a degree). it may sound contradictory to what I said about performing your best, but the directors do occasionally throw in a “perform at rehearsal how you would at competition” mindset, so hence why this worked for me. - think, say, and write the things you want to happen on the field (yes i stole this from my hs director). the more you say positive stuff in your head, the less nervous you will be for runs. - do not beat yourself up for any mistakes you may make at any point in the season. this sort of ties in with the previous point, but think of every mistake as a learning opportunity. continue to get better and never tell yourself you cannot do something. NotGodsHornline Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 (edited) Posted 5 minutes ago Prediction as of now: 1. Marcus (All Captions) 2. Wakeland 3. Coppell 4. Timber Creek 5. Forney 6. Aledo 7. Waxahachie 8. Keller Central 9. Mckinney 10. Haltom 11. James Martin 12. Azle I could see Wakeland and Coppell switching places just based on their scores last year. I could also see Forney and Aledo switching places, although it's unlikely due to Forney moving up to 6A and consequently having a larger band. Very hard to tell without seeing any shows yet as of now. Edited September 12, 2024 by Trumpet11 emgrace_09 1 Quote

Expand Forney is 6A based on their numbers in February so it's essentially like they marched a 6A-sized ensemble last year, and it's not like they're going to magically be bigger now that they're classified as a 6A program and I have to imagine that Aledo is nearing a push to 6A very soon thanks to the rapid growth in that area. Having seen both, it's quite neck-and-neck. Forney is certainly loud, but Aledo's visual program is SO impressive. I remember hearing "Full Throttle" as the show title and feeling a bit let down, but consider me now fully-throttled. Hoping to see them rightfully in 5A finals at San Antonio this year. Quote

Expand It's "On The Throttle" and it's a Formula 1-themed show. Aledo has also changed a lot of the ways that the program is being presented compared to past years including props, uniforms, sound design, and overall flow of how the show is laid out. BandNerd07 Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Just one thing to note: James Martin HS is doing another contest this day, USBands Saginaw. I remembered them doing this last year when they did Don Hanna Memorial and BOA Bedford on the same day. It really seems like this is a new tradition for Martin, doing double comps. Anyways, I feel like they're gonna opt out of finals here because they likely have a higher chance at making finals there than here as it is an easier contest. I just don't see how they could make finals at both due to the time constraints... Tubalord11 1 Quote
