What does your thought exercise say about effects on San antonio schools’ advancement? I’m guessing a number of school that doesn’t normally appear at state world start appearing at state.

This is the problem with any division of state slots, there’s going to be winners and losers in this because it is literally a zero sum game. You can only crack or pack districts, benefiting some while hurting others.

I don’t know what the solution for this is but we’ve got what we’ve got..

Yeah, the natural follow-up question.

My new Area Z leaves us with the following regions to make up Area Y - 11, 12 and 29. Here are the 6A schools in those Regions:

27 schools total, so as many as 5 State spots, but maybe 4.

So I’d say this results in CTJ and Reagan almost always being in (whereas CTJ may be on more rocky footing today). And a few other schools, (Brandeis, Churchill) having a more realistic shot at state vs constantly on the wrong side of the bubble. This comes at the expense of some Austin area schools who regularly make state but are now squeezed by Area Z

I disagree. But I get it.

The area switch affected NISD (which may have to wait a while to see the state competition again unless Brandeis can pull it off), Judson ISD, and SCUC ISD, many of which would make state if it was all San Antonio area schools against each other and there were 4 or 5 spots.

Richer schools tend to pull more students that can afford private lessons, students might not have to work while in school, they may have nicer equipment, etc.

You can't deny, however, the growth Del Rio has made as a program. I remember Del Rio got a 2 at region my freshman year. Just last year, Del Rio was 6th in area.

A key part in getting better is competing with better bands. Del Rio was competing with valley bands for a while and wasn't seeing much success. I don't think an area switch is the only thing that caused this growth, but I do think it's been a driver for growth.

Did it switch back this year??

bringing beef to an online forum where nobody gaf about your personal life is beyond immature and being petty accomplishes absolutely nothing .. and at this point we’re gonna make this thread go off topic

I saw Lake Travis at Region 32 and loved their show. They sound fantastic and will be difficult to keep out of the State slots.

i totally agree that its going to be tough for that 4th spot. westlake saw some good placements at their competitions this year and.. vista ridge and vandy are vista ridge and vandy. i know i preach not to compare scores/placements across  competitions but i cant help but be curious about the implications of their placement at duncanville..

I'm just wondering, did you go to a certain NISD school that has very close ties to Future Farmers of America? I know the rivalry ran deep when I was in high school, culminating in that infamous 2013 Whataburger food fight,  2014 national anthem debacle, constant online bickering, etc.

Trust me, especially if you've graduated, keep the rivalries college football related. At least they're kinda fun to watch then and don't degrade minors.

I kinda wish area were in Austin this year. Does anyone know the rotation of stadiums, or is that random as well?

But the warmup area at Gupton is brutal with no shade. Actually the spectator stands too, they’re getting blasted by the sun all day. I like that it’s closer for Austin bands, but dang if it isn’t hot as heck.
