I see talk of Davenport and Calallen. Are they any good? I've never heard of them before since I've only ever really had to watch bands at my band's area. How would people place then in comparison to bands in area b and c since those are the two areas I come from?

I mean Calallen's placed 8th in 2022 and 7th in 2023 and Davenport's placed 7th in 2022 and 6th in 2023 in state finals so their pretty close together and competitive.

WTH?! I searched yesterday on Davenport Band, Davenport Marching, Davenport Area, filtered for uploads in the past month and was not finding it. Thanks!

Most directors have told parents not to post public videos due to copyright,  protecting show concept, integrity...

Some have specified to wait until after Region/Area/State.

Yes, most of Davenport's videos are unlisted and not public.

Calallen has been consistent with making it to state finals in 2020-2024 as well as championing at the Area E marching contest , and Davenport is a fairly new school who’s made it to state finals after conception and is also the current champions of area e. Both place in the range of 8-5 place at state finals. Compared to the other bands, I think they’re going to be in about the same range

Considering Anna isn't there and neither is canton how would that shift them around? One spot opened up in top 5 due to Anna's absence; you also have new bands like Gatesville and Aubrey from area b  and Farmersville and Pleasent Grove from area C which have never been seen competing with bands from other areas. From what I know, Farmersville and Aubrey have never gone against Calallen and Davenport.

Ohhhhh! That makes sense! I was hoping to have a marathon of all the shows that are performing at state.

Yeah I've see Farmersville show but only a month ago and they sounded really good and looked really clean so I expect them to be amazing at state. I haven't seen Gatesville, Aubrey, or Pleasant Grove though I'll have to check them out. But I'm not super sure about how everything will play out but I'm very excited to see what happens this year!

Nine bands who were at state last year will not be there this year. Having seen Farmersville this weekend & their video, I believe Farmersville has a shot at making finals. I have no connection to them and don't even know where Farmersville is located, lol. I haven't watched videos of Aubrey & Gatesville yet to have an opinion on those 2. Some bands don't seem as dominant as last year, while others who weren't in the top 10 last year are stronger. I don't think that all 9 of the remaining bands left from last year's top 10 will repeat. About 5 of them I think are pretty set, but the other spots are up for grabs. Personally, I love a good dark horse or to see the excitement from a lesser mentioned school who breaks into the finals round and is psyched just to make it that far.

I feel pretty sure about the top 4-5 that are left from last year without Anna. I won't say Davenport for sure yet based off only having a 3 week old video to view. They are more based off reputation and their scores at Area.

I would like to formally apologize to everyone who is a part of the Davenport band and calallen band who feel what I said was inappropriate and childish. I should have never made those comments everyband works hard for there shows even if some work harder than others but that’s no way for someone to behave I’m sorry. I would also like to personally apologize to Sensei skittles I shouldn’t have attacked the baritones as I did baritone lives matter. I think I was deflecting my own problems on to others and out of jealousy for the Davenport band. There show it’s just spectacular I have never witnessed in my life something as beautiful as it has yet to exist. It’s an experience listening to it I have never felt before and I am scared I never will again Calallen is good but Davenport put us to shame. I would like to apologize once more I will stop making negative posts

Honestly though, it doesn't seem to much different from military marching to me.  It's sad that shows that are just as technically clean and musically great but have more of a DCI feel don't seem to get to move on.  If UIL is going to be like that, then maybe they need a third category...1) Military Marching, 2) "Park & Bark" or Traditional UIL, 3) DCI/Lyrical Style - give those bands who go outside the box a chance to shine!!

With allowing some margin of error for not being able to hear some parts very well (due to the filming in apparent hurricane force winds, lol)...

I would now more confidently say I expect them to be in finals.  Good luck!

It seems many people feel like several good bands got robbed during area comp in several areas...but, it is what it is.

Thank you for the apology! That’s very mature of you to do. Negativity and comparison will always be a constant in competition, so don’t shame yourself if you feel that way, but remember to not take it out on others. Stay positive and don’t let negativity keep you from enjoying your season and your show.

I am all about the underdogs, as our school is a perpetual underdog.  That being said, I am rooting for our neighboring school Aubrey!!

Next week will be my first time seeing their show. I'm excited to see them return to the State level once again! I do feel that they have a very good chance of advancing to Finals

To all the Area B/C folks…as a resident of Area E, I’d love to hear how this stacks up against the stars of your region…lmk please🙏
